ed-209 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/fi...ru_impreza.html No turbocharged wrx for the uk market..... four words. goodbye subaru. hello evo.
RA Dunk Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 we`ll still be getting the STI though, thats gonna be the daddy []
billyboy Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 They have totally lost the plot and their sales are gonna suffer BADLY!
scientific steve Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 i take it that folk will be able to import the WRX from Japan ? prob get it for the same price as the base model too
Richie Cross Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Quote from the article - "Inspired by the Toyota Corolla and BMW 1-Series" Says it all really.
thewelsho Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 From that article, the new Impreza has gone from bad to worse. It was, and still is and ugly pile of bile that has totally lost its edge. The new offering has blended itself with all other medicore middle-of-the-road cars, its a devation from what made/makes owning a Subaru a joy and thrill. To describe the car as bland, would be an overstatement. Who knows, maybe the STi will offer something more, but two things: 1)Not holding my breath; 2) Won't be able to afford it anyway. Screw you Subaru...
thewelsho Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Quote Quote from the article - "Inspired by the Toyota Corolla and BMW 1-Series" Says it all really. Yeah! There is is! Two of the most ugly modern cars on the road.
craigy Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 i do agree with you here but and its a random but, im sure that the shape of this car is purly been done to try and compete and win world rallys, seems to me that they have lost faith in the current scoob and to be fair its the largest car on the rally i have a feeling that as soon as subaru start racking a few wins together we will start to love the car only my opinion, but like the missis keeps saying to me, my opinion dont count , lol craigy

st3ph3n Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Auto Express is about as reliable as a 1970s Fiat. I take everything they say with 2 pinches of salt, a clove of garlic and a raindance. The S-GT has just gone on sale in Japan. That's the new name for the WRX over there. So maybe it will get branded like that here? Any "journalist" and website that managed to not catch the word "suspen-sion" in their proof reading is not worth the digital ink it's printed on.
thewelsho Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Quote Any "journalist" and website that managed to not catch the word "suspen-sion" in their proof reading is not worth the digital ink it's printed on.Ha! Never noticed that. I did notice however, their comments regarding the suspension; "Impreza's handling has lost none of its magic". Don't they know that the standard suspension is mince? So maybe you're right regarding their credibilty and reliabilty regarding such matters. That said, at least they got the picture right and that alone is enough to make me spew!
st3ph3n Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 The standard car's handling is very capable ...... for a standard car. The enthusiast and average Joe have very different requirements for suspension. Having your bones battered about with stiff springs isn't for everyone.

Mmm, still don't think I like it 'enough'. This picture reminds me of a Seat Ibiza...with a scoop. http://jalopnik.com/cars/super-s_gt-potent...reza-266208.php
colzo Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Don`t care what anyone says, that car looks cr@p! The STI would have to look much better. If it had to be a hatchback then I`ve got the S3 brochure in front of me and it is extremely appealing.
frazer_gallagher Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 bland bland bland [] rs4 avant nxt car i think
PECO Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 This all sounds familar - the bug eye was universally hated, blob eye wasn't much better and the hawk eye wasn't well received either, even the original classic was never a looker - but at least they were all unique and offered real character in a world where other mainstream car makers had sold out (with a few exceptions - mitsubishi being one) - it looks like the new model is trying to be all things to all men. However, as car enthusiasts - looks should be secondary - if the car goes well and has the character of its predecessors that's what counts. If you want a looker then buy a TT! Personally I can't wait for the new Impreza - I suspect they are been clever with their marketing - there will be a WRX as this is their best selling model in the UK and the STI will be something else..........
Boyakasha Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 1st mistake making the car from spare daewoo parts 2nd mistake no saloon in the UK 3rd mistake no WRX That famous saying "3 strikes and you're out" could never have been more appropriate []
jamesm Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 The change to the hatch is not necessarily the problem, it is the fact it just looks so bland although undoubtedly the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />US saloon looks better. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I think that the greenies have seen off the WRX as they want to sell more normally aspirated models in an effort to reduce the range's CO2 emissions. I think I read that 70% of Imprezas sold have been turbo models so regardless of the reasoning it seems a pretty bizarre move not to sell the WRX here. I think they have a really hard sell ahead of them as they will no doubt lose many WRX customers who don't want to or aren't able to step up to the STI. They will lose customers because it is a hatchback and they will lose customers who just don't like it. I think it will be difficult to sell such an anonymous bland hatchback to a whole new customer base. However we can only assume that Subaru know their market and know something we don't. As for the STI, I like what I have seen so far, all be it just the photochopped versions. The current STI is a long way from the base model 1.5 Wagon! I could live with a hatchback and as long as they manage to beef up the styling a bit to make it more aggressive and Impreza like so I am looking forward to seeing one for real! Just need to find the money to trade up to an STI!!

st3ph3n Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Autoexpress is the car equivalent of heat magazine. maybe if there's no rex in the uk then we're getting a cheaper sti? or possibly more then one sti? Hell, with reporting like that I could write for autoexpress.
4Hero Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 a 180bhp diesel will be replacing the wrx in the uk (so I heard). The new model is still minging though.
st3ph3n Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread...;highlight=S-GT Interesting read there about the S-GT. Japan-centric of course, but worth a read.
dougster Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Will it not help residual values of the current vehicles?
