  1. Hello all

Can anyone tell me if Exedy clutches are standard factor fit on a MY99 classic 2000 uk Turbo, i have pulled my engine to do the heads and i was going to fit a new clutch while the engine is out as i have been getting slight gringing when engaging 1st and some times 2nd which i put down to wearing clutch plates however i have found the block is already fitted with a Exedy clutch and was wondering if it has already been done or if my troubles lie elswhere?

    cheers all.

  2. Hello all

Can any of you recommend where i can pick up a new EJ205 turbo engine, or even a re-connditioned unit.

Any webpages will be most useful so i can study the best deal out there. i bought a new one a few years ago for a past car but i canny remember where from.

    cheers all.

  3. Pretty safe to conclude the head gaskets are fecked then.

    ---john---

head gaskets will be fine they were renewed just over a month ago, i think the problem is the head blocks are warped. will be looking for a quick trade in or a new engine me thinks. another expense not needed baby on the way.

  4. took out the rad and thermostat this morning flushed the rad and the engine and tested the thermostat in a pot of boiling water all working fine, reassembled, filled back up with coolant making sure i dnoe it slow to avoid airlocks, ran the car around the local streets so was not booting it and it over heated by the time i was back in my drive, one side of rad hot other side cold with both fans on.

    bloody nightmare of a car.

  5. Sounds like an air lock if some of the hoses are cold. U tried letting the car warm up with the cap off the coolent to drain of any air?

well it could be a airlock causing the cold rad, but i do think the main problem i have is the heads as i have had to refill the header tank at least 4 times over the last 2 weeks.

will be giving it a good going over tommorow befor i commit to any serious work on the engine.

  6. I'd be checking a few other things before pulling the heads again. e.g. Fans deffo working ?

yeah fans working fine when the rad is actualy hot. Im sure its the heads as the fact is i need to top up the header tank every few days so im loosing fluid some where and there are no obvious leaks from the hoses etc.

Im off tommorow so if its dry going to pull the thermostat and test it and flush the cooling system, the other reason why i think its the heads is the header cap is caked in some kind of solid brown scum stuff when rubbed between finders it feels powdery, so im thinking thermnostat is also caked in this stuff.

but the main issue is losing the collant.

  7. cheers chaps i will get prices and weigh up my option for skimming works or for possibly a new block, as i done the CH gaskets myself a month ago and still loosing coolant every few days and of course overheating.

have noticed that also that my rad stays cold sometimes and causes the car to overhead when sitting at lights, but cools down again when moving as i assume the wind when moving keeps it cool. i also replaced the thermostat when doing that gaskets so its either blocked or nackered with overheating.

anyway wasted 130quid on gaskets which never solved the problem.

  8. hi mate my finger would point to maf sensor or boost solinod problem

its a brand new MAF from subaru dealer fitted no more than 4 weeks ago, so that must rule that out unless its went faulty in that time. the boost soliniod was not connected to the turbo waste gate pipework, maybe for this reason as its faulty, any way of checking it? mind you when it was connected it gave me an extra 0.1 bar

  9. Hi all

Finally got around to fitting the turbo gaugethat i have had for a while, fitted it yesterday along with a sorting rocker cover oil leak that apeared following an engine removal a few weeks ago to renew the cylinderhead gaskets.

Anyway back to the point, the gauge(Steering colum Lamco gauge) is only reaching 0.5bar, car is as far as i know standard apart from a scorpion back box and a induction cone connected to the MAF meter box.

It was pointed out to me yesterday that the Boost soilinod was not t-eed into the turbo waste gate hose, were i vistited Scottish Subaru to pick one up, it now piped in which gave me a extra 0.1bar so now it reaches a massive 0.6bar

Any ideas where my missing ponnies are trotting off too??

  10. Need new black hoops for the wagon to go through a MOT, however a bit strapped for cash at present baby on the way?

    Its a toss up between

    A.. TOYO PROXIES T1-R - 215/40/17 @ £66.20 each = £274.78 delivered

    or

    B.. YOKOHAMA PARADA 2 - 215/40/17 @ £68.90 each = £285.58 delivered

Have proxies on the wagon the now, and had them on my old scooby a few years ago, whats the opinions out there? i do a lot of slow miles through buisness driving.

  11. Nice evo there but it would be a RS4 if i had the cash.

I could be mistaken but i was lead to beleive the evo's had two clutches that had to be serviced all the time, dont quote me though just something i was told.

  12. Behind the alternator on the inlet manifold there is a black rubber plug, wiggle it off and pipe the guage into there.

What do i do with the pipe i take off?

I seen in another forum that the hose from the gauge can be t'd off the smaller hose from the dump valve on the side of the oil intercooler?

  13. I have picked up a Lamco turbo boost gauge for my car, but it has no fitting instructions.

Can any one that has one send me instructions and pics on how to fit and where the tube should be connected too. The gauge comes with 2 cables (Yellow & black) i asume these are the ilumination cables, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  14. Job done, new cylinderhead gaskets installed following constant overheating.

Started yesterday morning 9:30, comp today 4:00pm only hope it works will need to do a test run tommorrow.

Its not the first time someone has had the engine out to replace a CH gasket, well i can only add done very badly. One gasket seem to be standart the other was crappy red paper stuff stuck down with what i can only describe as white mastic, i am also releved i ordered up inlet manifold gaskets as they were also red paper stuff again stuck down with mastic.

well FINGERS CROSSED it solves my overheating.

  15. Does any one have the rear(inner) timing belt cover for the near side, doing my cylinder head gaskets today and i had to butcher the cover, who ever had the car before me made an a*** and over tightened the pully wheels to the rocker and i could only get the head off if i butchered the plastic cover, i.e pulleys and rocker came of together.

    Part number is 13575AA103

If any one can help let me know if possible need it for tommorow. May also be looking for both pulleys and spindles for same side that can be separated from each other.

    Cheers

  16. Why are you replacing the inlet manifold gaskets??

Well i thought while i had the inlet manifold striped off i better renew these gaskets as well as there can tare, had a problem with these on my last scooby when i removed the manifold, so i thought if i have them there if i need them i have no down time on the swap over.

    cheers

  17. Tell me about it. Just lucky I noticed it beginning to overheat and not letting it get too hot. Carried out the head gasket test for exhaust gases in the coolant anyway and no issues there.

Just a pain but its an old car, got to expect to do some work on it every now and again.

how did or were you get the head gasket test done, i have the exact same problem, however i have re-newed rad, collant and thermostat which results in the same problem overheating, was ordering new head gaskets along with inlet manifold gaskets today but i missed the dealer planning on doing it tommorow.
