  5. I ordered a clutch from graham goode they were cheaper. I used jap imports for gaskets they were best price even got the uprated sti gaskets which are a lot thicker than the standard 3 ply metal from subaru, dont know if it will make any difference, any way there fitted now, should have the block back in and running by the weekend.
  6. looks to be a lambada sensor to me, connects into the exhaust normaly just after the turbo on the downpipe, however some cars have two one in the rear section also.
  7. Surley this contract you have with the hire company must be nil and void and worth nothing as the car is basically a fraud and not what you have contracted to hire. Therfore i would say hand the cars back early with no penalties on you and then seek compo for the monies you have handed over for hire costs so far against a false spec car.
  8. Hello all Can anyone tell me if Exedy clutches are standard factor fit on a MY99 classic 2000 uk Turbo, i have pulled my engine to do the heads and i was going to fit a new clutch while the engine is out as i have been getting slight gringing when engaging 1st and some times 2nd which i put down to wearing clutch plates however i have found the block is already fitted with a Exedy clutch and was wondering if it has already been done or if my troubles lie elswhere? cheers all.

  10. Ok engine is out and heads are off started at 2pm was in my scratcher at 9:30pm with a killer of a sore back due to bending over most of the day. LOL Anyway there off now just a waiting game to get all the new bits delivered and the heads skimmed, found that the pipe between the air box direct to the turbo housing has a massive tear in it, this wont help my boost i would imagine as i was only getting 0.5bar at the best of times anyone know what this part is called so i can order up a new one? its hard plasting to the air box end then converts into soft rubber that attaches to the aluminium turbo housing. Oh one other thing do scoobies come with Exedy clutches factory fitted, as this block has one and i was going to change it but i dont know if this is standard or aftermarket? as im getting a little grind going into 1st and 2nd and i put it down to a wearing clutch?
  11. Yeah new ones are going in, im not risking having to pull the engine again, they do look bad anyway and delaminated anyway only being in the car for about 2 month, i will order up new ones. cheers for the link.
  12. yeah i heard about the MAF issues on the MY99 about a month ago, i am going to pull the engine and get the heads skimmed i was talking to a subaru mechanic earlier on this morning where he told me not to right off the engine if there are no knocks get the heads skimmed and that thould work atreat, as i never got them skimmed a few months back and i never used new strech CH bolts. so going to get new bolts, heads skimmed and fit a new clutch this time, fingers crossed metal gaskets that were replaced 2 months ago will still be usable were the mechanic said they would prob be OK as there the genuine subaru metal gaskets i stuck in. anyways i will be elbow deep first thing the mora morning.
  13. both my cars were standard engine, only mods on the first scoobie Sreg MY99 2000 Turbo Salon was full exhaust, bailey DV, Lamco boost gauge and a dawes brass thingy, on that cat the turbo blew first had to replace it then a piston shattered for some reason so replaced the piston which then lead to a big end going, engine replaced and then got shot of it as i had enough (Foulishly as it was a mint motor otherwise for body and interior) agood few cars later i swaped a old rangerover for a Sreg MY99 2000 Turbo wagon in december this year again standard engine only mods i know of are induction cone and scorpion back box, a few months ago the rad went that was replaced, then the car started over heating, pulled the engine and renewed the CH gaskets one had been replaced prior to me with a ****ty paper gasket no wonder it F**ked up, so that was sorted for about 2-3 months with the ocational stutter now im back to fully over heating so my assumptions are that the head or block may be warped as i have had to fill the header at least 5 times over the past 2 weeks. the joys of being a classic scoobie owner eh, but there like woman we would not do without them. (dont shoot me down girls)
  14. this is my second time around havin to do a engine swap, it happened on a previous scoobie i had a few years back. pulling my hair out stung twice now to date and im sure it wont be the last i just cant seem to get away from the scoobies.
  15. cheers for the info i checked it out, and read some of the thread seems that the fella selling it also has some concerns on the current running condition of the engine block, lack of power etc. cheers anyway and another fact is the distance im here in sunny glasgow.
  16. Hello all Can any of you recommend where i can pick up a new EJ205 turbo engine, or even a re-connditioned unit. Any webpages will be most useful so i can study the best deal out there. i bought a new one a few years ago for a past car but i canny remember where from. cheers all.

  18. head gaskets will be fine they were renewed just over a month ago, i think the problem is the head blocks are warped. will be looking for a quick trade in or a new engine me thinks. another expense not needed baby on the way.
  19. took out the rad and thermostat this morning flushed the rad and the engine and tested the thermostat in a pot of boiling water all working fine, reassembled, filled back up with coolant making sure i dnoe it slow to avoid airlocks, ran the car around the local streets so was not booting it and it over heated by the time i was back in my drive, one side of rad hot other side cold with both fans on. bloody nightmare of a car.
  20. well it could be a airlock causing the cold rad, but i do think the main problem i have is the heads as i have had to refill the header tank at least 4 times over the last 2 weeks. will be giving it a good going over tommorow befor i commit to any serious work on the engine.
  21. yeah fans working fine when the rad is actualy hot. Im sure its the heads as the fact is i need to top up the header tank every few days so im loosing fluid some where and there are no obvious leaks from the hoses etc. Im off tommorow so if its dry going to pull the thermostat and test it and flush the cooling system, the other reason why i think its the heads is the header cap is caked in some kind of solid brown scum stuff when rubbed between finders it feels powdery, so im thinking thermnostat is also caked in this stuff. but the main issue is losing the collant.
  22. cheers chaps i will get prices and weigh up my option for skimming works or for possibly a new block, as i done the CH gaskets myself a month ago and still loosing coolant every few days and of course overheating. have noticed that also that my rad stays cold sometimes and causes the car to overhead when sitting at lights, but cools down again when moving as i assume the wind when moving keeps it cool. i also replaced the thermostat when doing that gaskets so its either blocked or nackered with overheating. anyway wasted 130quid on gaskets which never solved the problem.
  23. Howday all. Anybody know where to get the above skimmed in the glasgow area and how much to have it done?
  24. Any one know about this and how i can check if my car is running in it?
