Jobs for the boys.....help required with install
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to Edinburgh-Chris's topic in Scottish Scoobies
<< I am looking to install my unit ASAP but was hoping someone on here might fancy a spot of pocket money for giving me a hand! >> I wish i could help as i could have done with some extra cash for the major service i got coming up on my scoob As Dave mentioned AndyF will be able to help you out as when i got the car remapped was having a banter with him about getting an Apexi AVC-r on my scoob. Not sure what he will charge but he really knows his stuff and should do a good job, plus he is only in Port Seton which is nice and close by. -
Tyre supply central scotland
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to ian_finlayson's topic in Scottish Scoobies
<< Are we talking £77.40 a tyre for T1-R's cheap? >> That way better than the price i forked out for a couple of Toyo T1-R's just before christmas. Payed nearly £200 quid for the tyres and fitting (not including tracking!) that was from Autoimage in Edinburgh, not the cheapest price but was convinient for me at the time. To be honest when i was down south (Leeds area) i found the cost of the Toyo tyres was much cheaper. I think this is due to there being no official retailers for Toyo's in Scotland and so its a case of paying extra for wheels to be shipped up from down South (or so it seemed when i was on the hunt for cheap Toyos previously i may be wrong!). Could be worth considering if you are planing a trip down south anytime soon as most places that stock Toyos will have a supply in stock on the premises and will usually offer fitting in the cost of the tyres. -
Nice looking front bumper and good bhp to match! I like it mate, sliver classic scoobs all the way
-
Hey JC your ride is looking really sweet with the new suspension. Liking the new wheels too, well worth all the pennies!! So hows the handling been, does it make a noticable difference on those country roads?

Technical Help with Electronic Idling Stabilizer
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to Edinburgh-Chris's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi Chris I have seen the EIDS device advertised on ebay seems like it would answer the problems associated with the Blitz BOV's (been having the same problem with mine!). Was intrested to see if anyone had used them on a scoob with any success?? << id prob stick to a general voltage stabilizer as then you are inproving the earthing and giving voltage stabillty to all your sensors rather than just the airflow meter. >> Has anyone tried a voltage stabilizer for such a problem? I was wondering that if the BOV idling problem is associated with the airflow sensor, could it just be worth replacing the sensor to remedy the problem? -
WIY White WRX with CF spoiler Edinburgh Park?

<< I must admit i don't see many other Impreza's about in Edinburgh >> I know the feeling mate, i think most of my mates have spotted your scoob but i have never seen you about on my travels! From what i hear you have a very tasty looking scoob, hope to see you on my travels about Edinburgh some day -
Thanks for your help guys << probably all made by the same company ..... just Subaru charge that little bit extra !!! >> Had a similar feeling mate, as with most things your probably paying for the name << i got the dayco one, was about 40 cheaper and the mechanic (a mate) said thats what they always use and they are the exact same spec ...... >> Ideally i was after the same belt that Subaru use although the price difference with the Dayco belt does make it tempting, but i would have piece on mind with a genuine part on the scoob.
-
Hi folks got a service coming up soon for my scoob and was going to be getting the timing belt changed, just wondering if anyone have tried out a non-Subaru timing belts? Last time i was in Subaru were charging around £100 for a belt but i have seen other belts by Dayco (www.camskills.co.uk) or GGR for nearly half the price. Is there a difference in the quality of the alternative types of belts?

<< Igy you could stick in cvl turbo being your running no cats .I think a bottle treats 20litres but boosts ron by 4octane >> Tried this stuff already and found it was no different to using the cheaper millers booster hence why i am a bit undecided over which booster gives you best performance? << Igy the £20 was for the stuff which increased by 6 points (not for road use on bottle lol) >> 6 points now thats a health increase in octane rating, definately tempted to try a bottle out next crail me thinks
-
Many people sem to have mixed opinions about vta dumpvalves with many people reconing they are purely cosmetic, but i recon there may be some performance gains to using a vta dmpvalve. I did a comparison test running at crail one time with the OE dumpvalve and the next time with a baileys vta and i found that the 60ft times and overall 1/4 mile times were quicker with the baileys vta dumpvalve. However it is probably worth baring in mind that Impreza's are known to perform differently day to day given different ambient conditions and so the times i got could be down to such changes. However the experience has left me favouring having a vta dumpvalve plus nothing beats hearing the whooosh at gear changes

<< and sometimes the revs would drop right down as if it was going to cut out at lights/ect if i had been giving it some >> Dez been experiencing this problem recently after fitting a blitz dumpvalve. My scoob is due for a good servicing so may try the Denso plugs and see if it can sort the problem out, sounds like it did the trick for you.
-
Very nice JC could do with a set for my scoob , bet your itching to get them on! Will those actually lower the car at all?
-
Not tried that boost but tried their other cheaper booster at crail and found i got one of my best 1/4 mile runs (but it could have been down to some good driving that day ). Let me now how you get on with the Nos booster as i was tempted to try some out at some point If you are looking for millers booster Grant at AWD can sort you out with a good deal on a box of the millers booster, he did for me Think he nornally charges around £30 for a box of 10 which aint too shabby and given you paid £20 for one bottle of halfrauds booster it even works out cheaper given the petrol for a drive down to Perth.

<< Am itching to get over the 300BHP mark with my car without changing the turbo. >> Hey man. Have often wondering a similar thing with my scoob! I think my plan was to try and improve the overall response of the car with a few lightened parts such as the Flywheel and drive pulley, turbo hose and also was going to go for a STi or similar sized top mount intercooler to replace the OE one on my classic, however all of this will happen when i can afford Was not sure if it would increase the bhp enough after a remap to take you over the 300bhp, to be honest mate i recon just change the turbo and remap as most other things end up costing you similar money anyway plus you get more bhp for ya money!

Well funny, keep em coming!!

Do the cops ever do theyre job?
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to ScoobyAndy's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I remember some time back i was reading an article in Max Power that was going on about Traffic Police and their role on the road. I was quite intrested to find out that in order for a policeman to remain a traffic cop over a given period of time (i think it was every 3 months) they had to attain a certain number arrests (ranging from cautions, fines to 3 points). Given that this is true i believe that on some occations some of the crappy little arrests that these fellas make, such as the recent inccident with Croc getting booked for 32 in a 30 zone are just there so that these guys can reach their set quota in order to remain a traffic policeman. If they dont reach the quota then it is back to a beat cop which probably aint the nicest job given the weather at the moment so that can explain some of the police's motivation to readily bust road goers. I know this may not be the case for all policemen out there but it makes sense to me to bust somebody in a high performance car as it would be easy for people to believe a cop when they say that a guy in an Impreza was speeding and if you are on your own it would be your word against theirs which makes things more difficult if things went to court. I only say this from experience when i used to own an Integra Type R and got stopped, but luckily nothing came of it Maybe one day they will get the real criminals (I like to live in hope ) -
lol and these people are a super power!!
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to RA Dunk's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Man that is pretty shocking, that little clip is scary for far too many reasons!! I guess ignorance truely is bliss! Mind you in the Americans defence i have met quite a few people in our own country that would have been just as oblivious to the blatant miss-represnted map. Also have met quite a few American's in my time that were 'smarter than the average bear' so maybe there is hope for them yet!! -
Sorry to hear it man that is really harsh!! I think it is well worth contesting the ticket seems really harsh for booking you just 2mph over.

Blitz dumpvalve and idling problems
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to mazheriqbal_mohammed's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi Chris I am a bit gutted about the problem as i only just got the d/v second hand, hence the main reason why i was wondering if the slightly irratic idling is a natural part of the way the valve operates or if it is a problem that has developed over time and was the reason why the bloke sold me it in the first place In the meantime returned back to the Baileys but will keep you posted if i hear anything! -
Blitz dumpvalve and idling problems
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to mazheriqbal_mohammed's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi Andy how you doing mate << I have had this problem with two Blitz dump valves in the past and it was due to faulty items >> Crap, that is what i was possibly fearing was the problem. Although got some advice from AndyF and he adviced i have had a mess about with the tension of the spring by tightening it up more, did this but the problem still persists but the decrease in the revs is only to about 600rpm's now. Just to get opinions the problem only occurs for the initial return to idle revs and then almost instantly the revs go back to 800rpm's and hold there consistently as per usual so i am wondering if it is worth leaving the d/v on and putting up with it or to replace with my old valve? The reason i ask is that i read on scooby net that d/v such as the hks can cause irratic idling, so is what i am experiencing just a normal function of this type of d/v (but judging by Andy's reply it may just mean the d/v is bitting the dust!!). Cheers Iqy -
<< As above really , just had my renewal in and it's £1500!!!!!! >> That seems very steep to me like. When i was on the hunt for an insurance quote a couple of months ago i tried confused.com. You just enter your details and get a quote from a list of different companies all in one go, it includes companies such as Admiral, Norich Union, etc. Ended up going with Norich Union for a resonable sum. However as Gus the Bus was saying there are a few pages to sift through but it can be worth the £100's you could potentially save, man i sound like an insurance sales man Hope that is of some help for you!

No way i cant last all the way till Febuary without another Crail, is there not mercy for the performance car crowd!! Well i suppose it gives us all time to save from a few more mods for the next racing season

Blitz dumpvalve and idling problems
mazheriqbal_mohammed replied to mazheriqbal_mohammed's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hey guys cheers for the advice When i got the Blitz dumpvalve all the instructions are in Japanese and with my Japanese being a bit rusty thought i would have to guess a bit! The d/v seems to be adjustable at the top, with a long theaded pin and bolt. I have figured that tightening the pin seems to tighten the spring of the d/v but i am unsure if this is adviceable but will give it a try and see what happens << have you made sure ll pipes and connections are tight >> Used the existing blanking plug from the old d/v (which worked fine!) so the only other bit that could be loose would have been is the adaptor to the intercooler. Will give it another go and see what happens, i just hope previous symptoms are not a sign the d/v is knackered?!?!? -
Hi all just got a secondhand blitz dumpvalve for the scoob with fitting kit for a classic MY00 which arrived in the post today. Got the part put onto the car with minimal of fuss and then fired up my baby for a quick run to test out my handywork. Going from a cold start the car behaved as normal, then when sufficiently heated up i gave it some revs to test the dumpvalve. Valve Whooshed away beautifully and the performance of the car seemed as normal but when i got to a set of traffic lights and dipped the clutched the revs of the car went below 800rpms (where they usually idle) to around 500rpm then darted back up. Then at the next stop the revs went right down and the car stalled Having previously had a baileys dumpvalve on the car that i put on myself i am confident i fitted the dumpvalve correctly so confused as to what the problem is can anyone help??? Cheers Iqy
