  1. That's great, Richard! Is the Shell station open late at night?
  2. Hmm... nice reg plate. Are you keeping that?
  3. Thanks for the advice Richard! [] Yep, I'll be taking the sick boat from Heysham again! [gulp] Will I pass the Shell garage if I leave the M6 at J34?
  4. Ahh, good sensible advice.. thanks!
  5. We're coming across with the Scoob to the island for Christmas & New Year. The Scoob uses Shell V-Power exclusively. On my last trip in May, I filled up at that nice Total station in Ochan. [] I used the Super unleaded - or whatever it's called & then added a whole bottle of Octane Plus afterwards. Reading the label, it said that I'm supposed to put the Octane Plus in BEFORE I fill up. Does anyone else do this? It's a little inconvenient because it's obviously easier to fill up & then collect the bottle when paying for the fuel, then pour in the bottle afterwards. Is this not a good thing?
  6. Do you get a different Christmas? []
  7. Is the Christmas meet the same as the 3/12 Jurby event?
  8. Ghost101, the OP wanted self-catering. []
  9. I'm still working on an in-depth survey on that very question! []
  10. Nah, I live in England & I'm selling up & moving to the island. It's just I've already done a lot of research & been over on several trips so I know a little about the island as an outsider. [] With any luck I'll be living on the island by March so I'll be looking for my beer! []
  11. Douglas is where everything is happening & will be as you would expect from many seaside towns in England, but with less violence. Peel would be an idea if you want more character, although you won't be dissappointed with Douglas. Port Erin is a lovely seaside town, but quite small, also consider Laxey. If you're self-catering, then consider one of the self-catering cottages, however you won't get one in the middle of Douglas, as you're more likely to get an appartment. At the least cottage be a short drive/taxi into town. Remember that the island is small & it really doesn't take long to get anywhere. I think because of the beers in the evening thing, you are probably looking at Douglas for the first visit, but don't discount a cottage if one of you can do the driving. Many of the cottages have stunning views if you're into that stuff. If you can manage B&B instead, you could stay somewhere like the Glen Helen Inn which has a Glen in it's back yard & you only have to navigate the stairs each night. []
  12. What sort of holiday do you want? Also what sort of accomodation, Hotels, B&B, Self catering? Try this for an idea & I'm sure if you give us some hints about what you want to do during the days & evenings, someone can give you some more specific info. http://www.gov.im/tourism/travel/accommoda...px?menuid=13094
  13. Thanks, I'll take a look at All round tyres when I get over. []
  14. Are there any island tyre fitters that use that machine that takes off the tyre & fits a new one without ever touching the wheel rim?
  15. Watch out for the serious case of Wasp Flu in Scotland at the moment! http://newsbiscuit.com/article/wasp-flu-re...reaches-britain
  16. John, that's pretty disgusting behaviour from the dealer. I'd say that they need a letter of complaint & also a letter fired off to Subaru. I'm still in the process of moving to the island, so I've not yet used Curran's, but your experience has made me very concerned about them. Maybe it would be better to travel across for servicing work?
  17. Ok thanks for you help.
  18. Hi guys Is the new Shell V Power fuel available on the island?
  19. I found that my WR1 preferred Total Excelsor (sp?) + some octane booster. As mentioned Optimax is not available. What sort of places do you like to stay?
  20. Excellent news guys! Well done to everyone for their hard work! I hope that now the island can move forward to improving driving standards & show the UK how to improve safety without using meaningless sound bites that have never worked. An even happier bunny! []
  21. Is it marked up as a police car? []
  22. Thanks for the info Graeme Yes, the house has a driveway & space for a car port/garage. There are a few people in the queue to buy it, just a matter of who sells their own property first I think. The current owners are really nice people, we chatted with them for ages. Our daughter is 11, is there a good senior school nearby? About the regional organiser, maybe it would be an idea for it to be run by several members? The Bristol area was started by myself & 2 others, it seemed to work well by spreading the load around a bit. Loads of Scoobs on the island don't wave though, what's all that about? Maybe it's my UK plates?
  23. Yes, much fun I had. It's a nice surprise not to be beeped & flashed just because I've overtaken someone.
  24. Everything went well on the ferry. The Seacat was cancelled at Liverpool when we came across, so we drove up to Heysham to take the Ben-my-Chree. Does the Heysham terminal remind anyone of an old Doom level? Getting on the ferry was fine & once onboard, the distances between cars was good. The trip was a bit stomach churning though. We went back on the Superseacat2. OK to get onboard, but a little tight navigating once on the board. There was a couple of tight turns. The vehciles park closer on board, but we were waved into a little triangular section in the stern. I did some pretty poor mpg on the island, only managing about 175 miles per tank, instead of the usual 250 miles in the UK.
  25. Ahh, nice looking car you have there! [] We really like a house on Derby road, any hints & tips about the neighbourhood?
