  1. I'll be heading up to see how I get on with the new car. I'm a bit dubious about the new trackbite stuff they are putting down for the first 60ft though. A mate of mine used to have an RB5 that he had down to 12.6 with a few basc mods and a nitrous kit, he now has a version 5 Type R and after a few goes at Crail so far in it informs me that it's actually much harder to launch right then the RB5 and other scoobies he has driven. The problem seems to be that it just grips and bogs down if you just drop the clutch right out, even at a fairly high launch rpm. Obviously the TrackBite will make enhance this issue even further. I tried a few half launches last night and it seemed that riding the clutch out a bit as you take off was the best solution to it not biting and bogging the car down, obviously still doing it as quickly as possible so as not to fry the clutch. Playsatan - I saw you mention before that you took your v4 type r to Crail and managed a 12.9 on "plastic" jap tyres lol, just wondering how you went about launching it, or did you just pop the clutch and the plastic jap tyres spun a bit thus stopping the car from bogging down? Any hints appreciated as I'm sure the queues will stop me getting many runs in to practice with it being a mag day. I was having a chuckle about the trackbite though lol, 3 years of having a turbo'd fwd culminating in a 12.8 @ 114 while scrabbling and not being able to go full throttle till a fair bit after the 60ft, then I get a 4wd and now they decide to put trackbite down lol. Would be cool to see if Andy can go even quicker with the new sticky surface. Ross
  2. Indeed it would be great news if it turned out it was being replaced with 100RON stuff, nice timing for me as well having just got the type r. Won't be holding my breath though. Ross
  3. Only had the scoob for a week and a half so as of yet...nothing lol, maybe get a few scalps at Crail this weekend in it. In the Rover, quite a few things, most of which really didnt see it coming from the standard looking rover coupe most prestige one would have been a Ferrari 355 round Knockhill then outdragging it on the straight, and that was with the nitrous off. Paddy - that feed looks fantastic, I'm starving now and the table isn't booked till 6:45 for dinner Ross
  4. yeah that was mine Col, the short plate will be going for a proper sized one once I have the DVLA put it back to it's original reg and give the previous owner his private plate back. Ross
  5. Excellent pics Col. Seen your car today, blue Type R with power images mentioned on it so I assume it was you. I got some pics as well though not to the same standard as yours, and have an 8 minute vid of random clips I took throughout the day, I'll get them up later on. Ross
  6. That had been the plan but decided to spend a bit less on the new car and keep some money for other things, gf and I are looking to move to a bigger place etc. The Scooby was a few grand cheaper and I'm glad I went that way, the car is a lot of fun. Rapidcossie - the car has not had a remap as far as I am aware, you can't reflash the ECU in the Version 4. It had been running higher than standard boost when i got the car but I turned it back down again, it's nice and rich, will be getting octane booster for whenever it's driven hard etc and it's most likely I will have fit an Apexi PowerFC in the near future once I sell the Rover so that the car can be mapped for UK fuel etc, it's not suffering from any det and is definately rich enough and out on the road I dont rev it anywhere near right out either. Before I go to Crail next week I'll be getting an oil and filter change done for peace of mind, and while I'm doing that I'll borrow the wideband from the garage and check the AFR on it. Thanks for the comments from everyone else as well. Ross
  7. Hi peeps, thought I better join in, I did have, or rather still do but will be selling it, a modified Rover coupe turbo, some of you may have seen it at the end of last year as I attended one of your Knockhill track days in it in october/november, pretty wet day, stuck an in car vid of it up on here as well. Well the time came for a change so I have gone and gotten myself a scoobie. It's a 1997 Version 4 Sti Type R. Pretty much standard power wise, hayward and scott front pipe and a Blitz NUR spec exhaust, HKS panel filter. Had it for about a week now and loving it. I'll be taking it up to Crail for the banzai day and see how it gets on, no more scrabbling the first 150metres like in the Rover lol. Heres a few pics, no doubt see some of you at various events. Ross
  8. Though perhaps a better angle to get less dash and more track next time lol, I really should get a proper mount. Ross
  9. Any reason why there would have to be something wrong with a Subaru for the Rover to keep up? as Scott says, maybe you should try it yourself? Ross
  10. Hi Ian, Not much I'm afraid, money going elsewhere at the moment, bills, responsibilities etc, no fun lol. I did have plans for bigger injectors, DTA management etc but the turbo would still have limited power, so that's all on hold just now until I can do it properly, car is in winter spec, rear seats and a basic sound system but I do plan on being a wee bit quicker this year. Got a new head coming in the next week to 10 days which is ported, polished, big valves, etc etc and a new front pipe that incorporates a turbo elbow as the OE elbow I have just now is very restrictive. That and theres no nitrous just now, wasnt used in the vid anyway as it was too wet, will get the head on soon and some niggles sorted out, turn the boost up a bit if the injectors can keep up and give it a wee run at Crail on the 19th, wont get near my 12.88 as the nitrous has been taken out for now and I have the sub, seats etc in but as long as it's still getting very low 13's and 110+mph terminals in a fwd itll be a decent start to the year, then just the downpipe, some strut braces possibly for the track, and get the nitrous back on there nearer the middle of the year, fingers crossed. Hows yourself? Ross
  11. Hi guys. Forgot to post this up once I had it online, stuck it on the end of the thread regardign the day but it never brought it to the front of the forum for people to see so thought I should make it a new post. It's in car of my Rover, apologies for the camera angle, had no mount so just jammed it in the headrest and hoped for the best. The black subaru in the vid as I go round is Scott's WRX STi UK 300R, very nice car with impressive mods, be interesting to have a rematch in the dry , hope you enjoy the footage Scott, car sounds ace in the vid, and loud, can hear it over the top of mine lol. Hopefully get along to some more days this year, and try and get the camera situated better.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7...&pr=goog-sl Ross
  12. Hi guys, sorry for the lateness, by the time I got this vid on line I had forgotten I was meant to post it here, apologies Scott. Here it is anyway, sorry for the poor camera angle it as just jammed in the headrest. Let's hope it's dry next time, stop the front end dartign around on some exits, and maybe use the gas on the straights as well withotu fear of 0 traction. Vid Again, sorry for the delay in linking it on here, Ross
  13. Scott - Yeah I had the dark blue Rover, I take it yours is the black Sti at 372bhp? I was chatting to you briefly yes. The session where you were in front of me as we went round was the only one I stuck the camera in on as I had passengers the rest of the day, and my mount consists of jamming the camera in the passenger headrest lol. It isn't the best angle, got a bit too much dash in, but you can still see what is going on so it's 7 mins of me goign round and you feature in a lot of it, I'll stick the link on here when I get it uploaded. Very impressive car, handling and power delivery as well, by the time I had the wheels traight enough to get the pedal down it was off every time we came out of the hairpin etc, I liked it Rubythe Scooby/Digital etc, thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Hopefully get out there again with you lot next year Ross
  14. Good fun day out, I was there in the mornign session, and the afternoon til about 2:30pm. Not the best of weather for the Rover lol, lot of power to try and transmit to the track via fwd, the Ferrari 355 wasnt happy that when I did get it to resemble a acar with traction ot was an inch of its tail for the entire straight, and then I had to back off as he wouldnt pull over and let me pass. Good day out though, look forward to next year when IU can do a lap with traction lol. Hopefully the car didnt lookm too out of place. PS - For all those saying "ohh, it's got nitrous" , the gas was never turned on all day, too wet, would have spun the wheels till the gantry in the wet if the gas had been on, at least it would have been entertaining for those on the pit wall lol. Ross
