  1. does anyone know if it is a common thing to see that the v5 for an impreza import such as a type r should only say subaru and no mention of impreza or type r or anything in the model section , also for the date of first registration to have 19980000 ie no month or day listed , i am looking to buy a car which has these ommisions on the v5 , i have hpi it and it comes back clean and have checked the applied model code which seems to be what it should be .

the car is a 1998 type r which has been in the country since 2002 i dont know if this may shed some light on it .

also is there anywhere or any way i can check that it has been sva'd and taxes paid etc for a bit more peice of mind as there are no import documents with the car .

    thanks.

  2. i just wanted to ask , is the p1 the same as the type r but just two different names for 2 different markets as i am looking at getting a type r but have seen imports being called p1 , i always thought the p1 was the uk prodrive modded 2 door for the uk market only

  3. Will obviously need remapping afterwards and lots of space to do the job, and a hoist. In this weather I'd let someone else do it. I did my Spitfire bottom end in a residential carpark in London as a youth and vowed never to do it again.

ah i remember the days doin stupid things on carparks , i replaced my front suspension on our local carpark when it collapsed , i also vowed never again

  4. to be honest i dont claim to know much about tuning but what i do know is that every engine is different and in order to achieve the claimed gains on an old car without making sure it is in a good enough condition to do it is a bit dangerous to the engine and they cant possibly know how good it is without testing it , i personnaly would rather (if i had the money) let someone who knows what they are doing chec the car and then tune it live

maybe i am just a scardy cat

  5. the biggest problem seems to be that you just dont know who you are dealing with and unfortunately i dont have enough money to risk being stung so am trying to find out as much as i can before deciding which way to jump

the other problem is there seems to be no way of seeing what is going to go through the auctions and how much it is going through for.

oh and translating any japanese information may be an issue too

  6. i am looking to import a car from japan , a type r , i am only at the consideration stage and looked into this a couple of years ago with sc imports but couldnt continue due to family funds .

    anyway my questions are

does anyone reccommend any importers dealers , have had good experiences with them

also is it acually worth it when only buying one for yourself (ie fitting alarms , registering etc )

or am i just better off buying one that is already here .

there is one other thing , i have been told that the earlier imports , ie before they became 10 years old had to have gearboxes and things changed to get them thru sva's how do i know they have the same ones replaced after test

  7. hi guys.

i'm looking at buying this impreza

    http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/1374208.htm

just wondering if anyone could let me now anything to look out for on this perticular model?

and if the guys valueation is about right?

i'm finding it hard to find as it is an import.

any help would be grately appreciated

    thanks david

i am thinking about getting a type r myself but cant find much information about what to look for that is particular to this version , just the standard stuff like history , leaks and noises , bodywork imperfections , signs of the dccd being used too often , it would seem the dccd is rarely used as it isnt usually slippy enough on the road to warrant it but if i find out any concrete info i will put it on here.

  8. hi all , i did a quick search before posting this but couldn't find much.

has anyone on here any experience on importing your own car from japan as i have had a subaru before and am seriously considering buying another from over there this time , i am interested in all aspects of the importation process as i have never done it myself before

if there is anyone who give help out with any information i would really appreciate it . ;)

  9. the thing is , no matter what car you buy these days wether you buy a brand new or second hand version , it will lose money , it is made of metal , that is certain , if you have bought it purely for financial reasons then maybe you would have been better goin for shares or houses summat , but for pure enjoyment it must be said that £500 a year is cheap for the fun you can have . its like bein 18 again but now you can insure it .

  10. bloody hell you aint jokin , i dont think my year will be as fun filled as that but maybe that will all change when i av been to japfest and been on the track , and to think i thought my golf gti was quick , how wrong could i be and for only £120 a year more on insurance , what a bargain.face-icon-small-happy.gif

  11. i have a classic my94 and my box feels a little notchy but positive since i put my clutch in , i changed the gearbox oil as a matter of course so i could see what sort of shape it was in , any bits of metal or anything , the oil was 75/90 syntrax i think its fully synthetic from halfords .

  12. i will be bringin the missus but she will be 7 months gone by then and may decide the 240 mile each way trip is too far but i have got the tickets anyway , and she certainly wont go on the track in the car with me so will need other ladies to chat to .

  13. so far the missus is coming down and i have booked a ticket for her but she will be about 7 months gone by then so it will depend on wether she can get into the bucket seats as she is already struggling to get out of them , i feel like a butler always holding the door open . and at 240 miles each way we will be stopping at every service station on the m6 to answer the call of nature
