If you're looking for a classic impreza in Scotland then check out the items for sale section under Tyresqueal. I'm fortunate enough to be moving down under, so migh be looking to set up a Sydney chapter. Anyway, my loss could be your gain.

Was my neighbour who rolled the red astra - and to think I let him drive the scoob during JOG!!!!!!! Although he said it was on lap 8 I'm inclined to believe Col. Funny thing is that we were joking during the week that he'd roll down duffus and he did. lol Excellent pictures as usual - 15/10!!! -
I did mine with Harley's in 2000 and the instructors were tops. Jim Harley the owner is a top bloke too - don't forget to ask if they've any last minute specials on the price - I got a few quid knocked off.

Had to go down to the dealer in Ayr last weekend and EVERY scooby I passed waved back - y'all get my vote for friendliest region!! Cheers!

Mmm interesting, but sounds like another urban legend to me. Most maf issues i've heard of seem to be related to excess vibrations. I reckon if you were to drench it in oil there could be a problem, but I keep my oiling to a minimum and haven't had any issues so far. I'll keep you posted. Anyone else heard of this issue???

I had an HKS panel filter in my wrx and recently changed to a k&n 57i kit - guess what, i used to get occasional cel warnings and now i don't. Would recommend the k&n kit, particularly as they're designed for each version (mine's specifically for jap classics and mounts solidly to inner wing thus protecting maf). Sounds awsome when gulping in the air and my bailey dumper makes a really hard core noise now as well! I do always run with optimax however.

Why does everyone talk horsepower - the best mods I've made to my classic are adding 17" rims with Bridgestone 040s 225x45x17 and a thicker whiteline anti-roll bar with uprated drop links. Anyone can go fast in a straight line, but on a twisty road - see ya!!! However, once you get used to the speed a 2.5 conversion with hybrid turbo, de-cat, andy f re-map and nitrous etc etc gives you something to dream about at night, mmmmmm yes baby! Remember the old pirelli saying - POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL - look at how quick a wrc car is over a stage and power is restricted!!!! Your wallet contains all the answers.

I'm up for this too - did the scottish at ingliston and had a right laugh. My neighbour was gutted i didn't take him and wants to know the next time i'm doing it, so that makes two of us!

I've got a '93 wrx and early ones like this have a closer ratio gearbox. This means fantastic acceleration (just ask newer sti pilots), but my mpg suffers as a result (23/4 on a good day). The other unusual difference i've noted is vented rear brakes where early 2000s had solid. The fronts are crappy two pot calipers as well! There's also no ABS, but I think this is only in the really early cars like mine. Power quotes tend to be unrealistic for wrx as 240-260 is based on jap 100 ron fuel. Once run on super this drops to close to uk 2000s apparently. Need to get mine on the rollers to find out output and to see if the cat back 5zigen, k&n 57i filter and running optimax make a difference. When's the next dastek day?

I've got to throw in my tuppenceworth and suggest you go for a Honda Integra Type-R DC5. You'll get an import for less than the ST, the car will start first time everytime, probably out-live you and has enough comfort, style and performance to keep you happy. There also aren't too many around so has that "ooh, what's that?" factor. Dicksons of Dunblane are quoting just shy of £20k for a new one. The following link shows a delivery miles only example for £19k: http://www.dicksonsmotorgroup.co.uk/vehicl...8199&popup= P.S. I'm not affiliated in any way - honestly!!!

Hi All Just back in the land of the employed and payed up my SIDC membership tonight. I appreciate that I'm too late to register, but would love to run up to JOG with you all from Stirling if that's cool? Cheers, Nic.

nice one mate - don't forget to give your brothers and sisters a passing wave! i thought that this was just a biker thing till i got my scoob.

I got optimax in the shell at the Gyle in Edinburgh this afternoon for 97p per litre and shortages weren't mentioned. Ignorance is bliss till you run out in the middle of nowhere. Beware of planning a trip up the north of Scotland i.e. Richard Burns rally. Did some scanning of shell's website and they have nothing north of Inverness or Beauly! Will be taking some fuel cans with me for that run.

Man that makes me [:@] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe they made such a mess. I locked my keys in my classic the other week (don't ask) and it took me ten minutes to get in with a screwdriver and a welding rod without leaving a scratch. Useless muppets need some proper educatation and I'm not talking a slap on the wrist!!!! Good luck getting it fixed and I hope it doesn't break the bank.

I won't tell if you don't. Mum's the word mate. Off to blanket bay now! Ciao

Glad I'm not the only one who watches late night telly and hooks up to interweb scoobie style! Is this something to be proud of?

Watching the review of GB3000 on Channel 4 and still no sign of the man? Is Chris camera shy or just not fast enough to get recognised? Cummon Gumball give us a wave!

Man these idiots make my blood boil! I had a similar incident joining the motorway at dunfermline. There are two lanes and I accelerated down the hill to join the motorway at 70. Tw*t in a cavalier doing about 30 in the inside lane then swerves into my path - I dive to the inside thinking he hadn't seen me when he deliberately swerves back into the inside lane to block me, forcing me to brake really hard and just pull up behind him. Then to top it off, he blocks me a third time when I move to the outside lane again - W*NKER!!!! I then followed him up the road and gave him verbal when he turned off at kelty - if the girlfriend hadn't been with me and other witnesses present I dread to think what I'd have done! As far as I was concerned he was trying to kill me and the better half - if I see him again he'll be getting it! I called and reported him to the boys in blue, but I can't imagine they pulled out the proverbial and did anything about it! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm now back on my medication and the therapy is helping - I think?

What cars have you had? Good and bad!

Here's my strange list 1. Austin Mini 1000 W reg (slowed down on hills) 2. Ford Fiesta mk2 XR2 B reg (the boy racering commences - rip) 3. Ford Sierra XR4i C reg (went sideways into an oncoming astra in the snow - rip) 4. Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000 P reg (sold last week - boo hoo) 5. BMW M535i C reg (tin worm and overheated engine got the better of it - rip) 6. Ford Sierra XR4i C reg (t-boned by daft driver - guess the sex - rip) 7. Renault 5 Campus E reg (bought for £50 with MoT and lasted long enough - rip) 8. Renault 5 1.7 GTX F reg (beat mate's Yamaha Thundercat, but I'm god's gift to driving and he had only been riding a year - tee hee - rip) 9. Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 R reg (sold last week - boo hoo) 10. BMW 320 Touring Auto G reg (still got it as daily hack - almost as thirsty as the scoob!) 10. Subaru Impreza WRX L reg (my latest purchase and fastest so far) My favourite so far has to be the Fiesta XR2, but before you cry out let me explain. It was no where near the fastest, but it handled so well after suitable suspension changes that it was great fun! On a twisty road I beat many a quicker car! The knack to this car was to be smooth and carry corner speed and momentum to be quick - it's easy being fast in a straight line. This car could be driven to it's absolute limits and encouraged you to do so every time you got behind the wheel. The escorts were fun too, but pre 80s build and interior quality let them down. I can hear all you scoobie owners cursing me, but please hold on. The handling on the WRX is amazing, but it just doesn't excite me in the way the xr2 did - it's too sterile! I like a car that you have to grab by the scruff of it's neck to get the best from. I bought a whiteline anti-roll bar yesterday, so once fitted I think the scoob will start to handle more the way I like it. I'll keep you posted! -
Best way to drive a AWD Car (help Please)
nicholas_frame replied to UK300_Impreza's topic in Scottish Scoobies
You're on the right lines - no pun intended. If you power on too early the car will run wide (understeer). I find that standard scoobies like to be braked late, turned and held on an even throttle (neither speeding up nor slowing down), hitting the apex, and then powering out - by the time you're out the corner you should be at the outside edge of the road/track and fully committed to the next straight! If you find the car understeering into a corner you are either going in too hot or trying to put down too much power too early. If you're on the go faster pedal, lift slightly and if the car's line tightens, then you know it's too much acceleration that's the problem (power understeer). If you aren't accelerating then you know that you're entering the corner too fast. If it's understeering on the way out and running wide then you're trying to put down too much power too early (again power understeer). If you're car isn't understeering at all then you're well within the limits of adhesion and you can push a little harder. I found the scoob a little frustrating at first as it didn't feel that fast through the bends - power understeer being the problem, but once I got used to holding a more even throttle it became more satisfying, although not as rewarding as a rear wheel drift in my old escorts. Getting out on track is the only way to really learn how to handle your car and expert tuition is not to be sniffed at! Get out there and have some fun!!!!!! If you're ever at knockhill when I'm running I'll happily give you a co-seat, but there are faster scoobies out there - anyone else offering? You can PM me and I'll let you know when I'm running next. Beware though, I like to leave my brain in the pits - as my better half will testify to. -
Last hot hatch next sunday - Knockhill

Hey guys had great fun today - shame it was so bloody cold and miserable though. Wasn't a great day for getting to know you all. Nice picture of my arse Col, shame it wasn't hanging out at the time (silver wrx). Can't wait till next year and if you happen to be reading this Santa, please can I have more power, better handling and charlize theron in stockings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Merry xmas and a happy new year to y'all.
