I think Gerry is on holiday at present so things should be back to normal next week.

Interested to know where the Optimax/Shell is near Eyemouth. Thanks. PS. Running North I usually have Berwick on Tweed, Messelburgh, Dreghorn or just before the Forth Bridge.
-
Use BP Ultimate, with or without NF and have your car mapped on whatever you decide to run on permanently. The higher the octane the more the ignition advance that can be safely run without DET. DET kills engines and ignition advance makes power so you need maximum advance with no DET in the simplest of terms.

I have fitted a few quickshifts and every one has been done from the top with the car sat on the ground. Start by removing all the gear lever surround which goes up to the cup holder.

Didn't know about there being one at Gorebridge but that is handy for me. Thanks.

Lightened Pulleys and flywheel - Pro's Cons
harvey_smith replied to mazheriqbal_mohammed's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Scoobymania do the GFB under driven pulley kit for around £150, I think. I cannot say that I have noticed any signifigant difference with lightened pulleys or separately with lightened flywheel. I accept there will be a minor gain but I think it is so small it is probably not quantifiable but the engine probably revs up quicker when the throttle is blipped open. -
From a recent experience with a charge cooler on a car fitted with a temp sensor just before the throttle body (Nomad) I was surprised how inefficient it was in comparison to a good FMIC installation. Get some first hand comparisons before you commit a lot of dosh. Compare the charge temperature with the actual ambient. eg 2 deg C over ambient in the cruise up to 4,500 rpm/105 mph.

Hi Billy Boy. Got your P.M. Thanks. Got probs replying via PM. Good luck with your new responsibilities. I do not know the history you refer to but power to your elbow. Saw your car yesterday at NBO and also The Rice Rocket. Cheers, Harvey. harveysmith1@btopenworld.com if you want to e-mail. also www.geocities.com/harveysmith3000

The weather was cold for June and it tried to rain at one point but so many Scoobs in one field is still very impressive. Slightly down on last years effort of 400 odd but this years efffort was diluted with the planned "Southern Big One" At least there was a good collection for the two charities which was the important bit. The convoy down from Scotch Corner was most impressive. On the field, only a very small minority indulged in thoughtless behaviour, reving up when the PA was on, litter, or driving away at high speed although that was more prevalent from the RSOC in the next field where entry on foot was £4 each. Not worth it unless you have a Ford I guess. The main prize was donated by BAE Systems, Blackburn and organised by Chris Towers from LADS. It had to be drawn three or perhaps four times before there was a taker and yours truly was the winner. A flight in a powered glider. There are restrictions however. *Min Age - 14 or Older. * Max Height _ 6'2". * Max Weight - 14 stones. * No Physical Disabilities. * In Good Health. Four out of five are no problem but there is a challenge on for one.

Thanks Johnny. I do not want to rob your spot. if you get there before I run you can have it back. If not and you are there before I go at the end then i'll buy you a beer...or two. I have changed the turbo and want to get a comparable reading before I take this one off again.

Dastek has the best cooling set up I have seen. The rest of the kit is very impressive too. There are two fans. One very large, outside with air ducted in to the front of the car for the radiator or FMIC if you have one. The other sits on top of the ducting and would direct air to the scoop with the bonnet closed. I guess Gerry would run the car any way you wanted as long as he thought it was safe. Can you put me on a reserve list if you have one and incase anybody drops out please.

Most piston engined 'planes in the UK run on AVGAS. This is 102 LL. ie. 102 RON Low Lead. The lead content is far higher than that of road petrol despite the missnomer LL. This fuel is formulated specifically for aviation use with additives to help reduce the possibility of carburettor icing. For identification and testing purposes it has a slight blue dye. Typical power plants of around five litres, flat four produce under 200bhp at around 2,500 rpm. Mogas is used in some 'planes. ie road pump petrol. Civil jets run on JET A1. In the military this is referred to as AVTUR. Basically kerosene with addatives to prevent waxing or solidification at altitude/VERY low temperature.

Wuz : If you check with Bob Rawle you will find that his thinking on after market FPRs has changed recently. I have been involved with several FSE fuel regulator problems in recent months, as has Bob. If the new pump overpowers the O/E reg then change it but chances are that it will not and mapping with a new pump and O/E regulator is preferable to working with an erratic FSE for instance. There is the possibility to save £150 on an unnecessary purchase. I do agree that if you are upping the BHP signifigantly then the pump needs uprating.
-
I don't want to be controversial but I do not agree. Firstly why do you want to change your pump? If you are going to change it, do you have any means of monitoring the AFRs before and after? Why not fit the pump and see what happens. It may be preferable to having an FSE FPR that is erratic. There have been a lot of FSE FPR reg failures and it would be better to rely on the O/E if it is doing its job satisfactorily. A variable FPR will assist you in adjusting fueling but that might not be what you are trying to achieve. The SX FPR is reliable and versatile but can cost around £150. The Walbro 255 lph pump is around £95 posted from AS Performance.

You need to buy a full roll, 2" x 50 feet at a cost of around £50. It is called DEI wrap and has a sewn in stitch to show the correct overlap. Apply damp but not wet. Use tie wire, (Goodridge) every 2 or three spirals. You will use most of a roll. Mine comes from Nimbus Motorsports Products, Driffield, East Yorks.

I will be there but it could be later on when I arrive as I will be in the Birmingham area until early am.

I thought everybody knew wagons were quicker. 171 mph @ 1.25 mls at Elvington on their timing gear and several unofficial speeds at Bruntingthorpe which has a 70mph run on, a longer straight and a more gentle run off. 182-186 mph. The top speed was limited by what revs I was running the red line at. 182 mph was 8000 rpm. Getting rid of speed from 180+ is interesting, even at Bruntingthorpe. www.geocities.com/harveysmith3000 PS The 95/96 Wagon is 240 bhp I think and the saloon is 260 bhp. TD04 turbo v/v TD05 and a different ECU.

However at present it is not fully operational in England at least.
