  1. Going to Edinburgh to the festival with the guys from work, going to see three shows so should be a good laugh.

    See anything good Paul?

Saw 3 shows on Saturday, the best being Reginald D Hunter who was particularly good.

Today I will mostly be remembering what it is I do after having had a long weekend off!

  2. If you need someone to come and take the piss as you skin yer knuckles gees a shout. Apparently my banter's legendary, just ask Colin.

Have been told much the same by my mate Paul. Pop round, let him buy me a chinese, then stand and watch as he fidgets with the kit car. Handing over the odd ringer or socket when he shouts.

G - I'm hereby offering you the same service.

  3. Davie - the german press has been invited to a Canon event later in the month. Chances are some new gear might be introduced which could affect the price of the current stuff.

As Neil says though - Camera Price Buster is good for scoping out the prices.

  4. I think the reason people swapped to other cars was nothing to do with the drive setup. People have been swapping to things that aren't as powerful/fun etc. For me it was simple - I'd had my fun and the running costs and future maintenance were outweighing the enjoyment by a large factor at the end.

The bad winter we had was one of the reason I would have stayed Subaru when I was weighing it up! I certainly didn't change because of 4wd.

  5. Richie - have you tried phoning up and saying you're thinking of leaving?

    You'll get a sweetner I imagine.

But yes - I refuse to watch things in "council definition" any more.

  6. Did you explain to him that although you had beaten him you would have beaten him by more if it was on the proper map?

I once couldn't get away from what looked like a standard 1.4 civic (that's what the badge said!) that was admittedly sitting on some nice wheels and had a nice stance. Turned out it was a turbo'd 1.6 with no interior.

  7. I know the feeling as a fellow sucker for a bargain. The pair of Oakleys I bought in their outlet last week is testament to that - given that I have a perfectly great pair I bought less than a year ago anyway. But they were limited editions and a bargain so ........

It's worth a trip into Jessops to have a bit of a touch and a feel of the cameras. The one in the non-pedestrian area of Sauchiehall street has a lot of hardware and the staff are happy to answer plenty of questions.

I think if you actually went and held a bridge camera and then tried to get it into your pocket you'd come away with two things - ripped trousers, and a better idea of what you wanted.

If you could pickup one of them for the right price I think you'd get an outstanding camera that you'd not replace for years. Perhaps only limited by the zoom ability of the lens, but otherwise it's properly good. SLR electronics (the image processor is the same as the one used in the SLRs) in a smaller package.

Or even go back to the G9.

There is a G11 out now, but it's £500+ or something ridiculous!

The other thing to maybe consider is the "EVIL" cameras that will probably take over from SLRs in the coming years. Especially at the lower end of the scale. EVIL is "electronic viewfinder, interchangable lens". So basically an SLR without the mirror and viewfinder assembly. So you get a less bulky body, but still with the ability to add some fairly meaty lenses if you want. Olympus and Panasonic and now Sony have got models out so far - the Olympus and Panasonic share a lens mount too.

They're expensive now, but if your current P+S is holding up well enough then maybe last it out until one of them becomes a billy bargain - I know you're a fan of HUKD.
