Windscreen Fit turns into Nightmare! Named the Swines
Kenny.S replied to Kenny.S's topic in Scottish Scoobies
It's not a small company so i dont know how well we'd get on trying to smash them up but i like the thought process I want the car painted where my mate works so i know it'll get done right and i'm going to push to get the window removed for the paintwork by the guy the bodyshop use. I would have used him in the first place but he's not on the list of approved fitters with my insurer so i would have had to pay the full price of the window. Should have just payed the money, hindsight is a wonderful thing! To me it seems big companies are faceless and just dont give a flying f*** one or two cock ups wont effect them but small local businesses are more likely to take time and do it properly if they make an a**e of it they wont be in business for long. Possibly a mass generalisation but in my current situation it's my opinion! Kenny -
Windscreen Fit turns into Nightmare! Named the Swines
Kenny.S replied to Kenny.S's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I'm fairly chilled all things considered, went out for a p**s up last night so the hangover has taken my mind of it I wasn't going to run the car through the winter any how so it's not too bad in that respect but i could do without the hassle. Kenny -
After waiting for about 3 weeks i finally got a phone call from the windscreen people (Will remain nameless for now) to say they had the front screen and set a date to fit it, yesterday. All was going well, i'd taken the trims off prior to them arriving so the old window came out in 10 mins but then things went down hill.... They'd put masking tape up the A-pillars and across the top of the window when they were cutting it out to protect the paint, common practice i'm told. They cut all the old bond off then started removing the tape!!! As they removed the tape from the passenger side A-pillar off came the tape along with 4 inches of PAINT right down to the factory primer No point having a go at the fitters as they were only doing what they're told to do and after all the paint shouldn't come off like that but i assumed they would have some kind of insurance for instances such as this. They carried on fitting the window but left the trims off since they would only have to come off again when the painting was done. Next problem, a bonded window has a has thing called a daming rubber or foam strip stuck onto the car prior to the glue being applied to stop it squeezing into the car and also to set the height of the window, they fitted this and then put the window in... as soon as they did it was obvious straight away that there was a problem, the trim clips wouldn't lock onto the metal pins on the A-pillar because the window was sitting too high! You'd think they'd take it back out and sort it, na! "the glue will hold the clips in mate" What about the trim not fitting properly? It'll be fine they say. No sooner had they packed up and left and i was on the phone to the local depot. I was as diplomatic as i could be considering the situation but the guy just wasn't interested, "not our problem mate, the paint shouldn't have come off" I could go on and on but you get the idea i was just banging my head of a brick wall and wasting my time trying to get through to the guy. I've now contacted my insurer (who couldn't have been more helpful) and they're now in talks with the windscreen people to try and come to some arangement. End result the November Photo shoot is looking very doubtful as i dont think this is going to be resolved anytime soon. Kenny

Looks like i'm going to have no option but to pull out as per my new thread Kenny

" Your car and the Falcon share only 2 things, the letters R and A." They're both white Give me a chance mate i've only had the car a few months. Granted it may not be the most powerful thing right now but it's a dam sight better since Andy Forrest worked his magic. Soon as i get my ass offshore and start earning some more dosh ill start ticking things off my wish list Kenny

"I now have access to some excellent equipment so expect more over-engineered parts coming soon. " Thats the kind of stuff i like nowt wrong with over engineering things in my opinion, usually the way i end up making everything not always intentionally just sort of happens I made my resonator by-pass pipe from a 6 1/2" piece of soild aluminium, just happened to be the only stock i could get my hands on that was big enough, also have access to some nice equipment etc Kenny

On the subject of exhuasts and the old subject of throwing away that catalyst thing, I read something on SN a while back regarding emissions tests on the older imports ie my 95 Sti Ra. The story was along the lines of, because these early cars had no equivalent over hear they couldn't carry out a specific test instead they could only do a basic CO level etc and most importantly no lambda test? I've heard people say this is no longer the case but it would be dam handy if it was. Kenny

Look very nice mate, who did you get to machine them for you? I'd be interested in a set when i go for the next phase of mods, 18g, 550's, air intake through the inner wing, front mount...... and a few other bits and bobs Kenny

Nice pics Peter Think that'll be the last one for me this year, as i posted on my thread earlier my new front window is going to take 6 or 7 weeks Prob just keep it off the road for winter. Kenny
-
Looks like im going to have to wait 6 or 7 weeks for my window They asked the dealer (s&s i think) about the thinner one, who then contacted intenational motors, sure you know the procedure and it seems all the windows for this age of car have been superseeded by one number so it looks like the thin one is no longer available. Appears nobody has the standard bronze tinted window in stock either so there's one being put on a boat and should be on it's way soon. My old cavy feels like a 1.1 fiesta compared to the scoob but on the flip side when i take it out again it'll be like a new toy all over again Kenny

Cheers mate Hard work keeping an all white car clean though! The front window got cracked on the run yesterday and it looks like there could be a wee delay in getting a replacement because i asked if i could have the correct thinner glass re-fitted. The glass people seemed quite understanding about it and are looking into getting one sourced through a dealer, so it might have to get sent over from Japan if nobody's got one over here. If it's going to take a while i might just take the chance to put it away for the winter as its immaculate underneath and i'd like to keep it that way. Time to bring out the winter hack! Hopefully still be able to bring it out for the November Photo shoot though. Kenny

Defo mate i would have had my car mapped to run on Optimax but the closest one to me is about 20 miles, so i had to settle for Esso Super. Do you recon if we all sent Shell an e-mail every week asking for it we would get anywhere? Most likely get asked politely to go away! Kenny

Think there were a few "brake" issuse today, self included. The front discs seem to distort slightly when they get too hot but then sort them selves out once they've cooled down. My mate Tom in the silcer classic had an impressive amount of smoke belching from his front brakes after Glen Lean Kenny

Cracking wee run today, cheers to Gumball for organising it and letting me use him as pace car on some of the twisty bits Not long started and Gumball's at it already! First stop in Arrachor Correct me if i'm wrong on this one guys but pretty sure this was just after we came through Glen Lean "twisty bits" back onto the main road. Then finally the last stop on the way home at the bottom of the Rest and be thankful Kenny

"everyone have fun tonight?" YIP I know those roads pretty well but i'm still learning the car plus the GCSD3's are not long on so i wasn't going to silly. Didn't want to have to wake a farmer up and ask to get my car out of his field! Look forward to Saturday, heres hoping the weather's decent. Kenny

Just wondering what the plan is regarding arranging all the cars so that they're all in the one picture? Is there somewhere to get a vantage from? Kenny
-
Took this one tonight with a very slow shutter speed it's a bit more arty i recon What do you think?
-
Ok call me stupid but how do you attach a picture so that it loads up when you open the thread ie you dont have to click on a link? It's getting a bit late and i've had several cans of Glasgows finest lager so cut me some slack please Kenny hic.... hic

Would i be right in saying that 8000 should be good for 211mph and max rpm would be 221.55mph? Thats some pretty tall gearing! Is this using the same gearing as your 1/4 mile stuff or have you changed it specifically for top speed? Kenny
-
Very impressive mate. On paper what is it geared for? How many revs did you have left at 199.4mph Kenny

HELP! How do i get locking wheel nuts off - with no key?!
Kenny.S replied to jacqui_robb's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Did you try making a new key from a socket? Its pretty easy and will save a load of time/hassel just use the thinest cutting disc you can find and keep trimming till it fits, with a hammer!! Where abouts are you? If you wanted to come down to my neck of the woods i'lll make one for you? Kenny -
