  1. thanks...sure i will enjoy it and the new community i am becoming a part of. a long trip north wales to lincoln wasnt it? not bad mileage considering i think.
  2. lets see if this will work then....should be a link to a pic....NAH...it wont let me upload so will try a photobucket link. perhaps someone can tell me why whatever i try to upload it is always the same files size that is too big to be uploaded!!? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/remfanuk/car.jpg
  3. i dropped an email off to Tesco to ask them where the nearest is to me...lazy b*stards have yet to reply!
  4. thanks for your replies guys....bit the bullet and bought one!!! got a sept '00 in blue mica (deep or dark, i cant remember) and will be able to legit drive it on 30th this month due to having to wait for insurance. nice 40000 mile example that has been serviced every 7.5k or less on the button. will keep it like that, though may do own oil changes etc and get a RCM service once a year going on time as opposed to miles. its already had the cambelt done 5k ago...so look forward to driving it in the none too distant future.
  5. noted and will take extra special care if i do attempt doing the oil change myself. have done it on plenty of other cars, think the special layout of the subaru boxer engine scares a few folk off. if i am gonna be changing the oil every 5k or so then i think i should do it myself and make sure it gets a RCM big service once a year or every 10 months or so.
  6. cheers guys, very useful. i might be a bit dumb, but the filling of the new filter before fitting is to prevent what exactly?
  7. two things really....is there a Haynes or similar for the classic impreza? and is it a reasonably straightforward job to change oil and filter yourself? ta.
  8. any actually in lincs itself anyone please? in fact, any lincs members here?
  9. would put a pic up but each time i try to upload it says the file size is too big...done three times now and given up. i bought it today but not getting till next week...and it's mica blue but looked a lot lighter in the photo in the advert which is why i couldnt get a handle on which blue it was.
  10. um...i thought reddish blue but according to that paint chart that was linked here, thats too old a colour. cant tell you the code as its a car i am looking at tomorrow...doesnt look like a dark colour and if it was sonic blue i would have thought the ad would have said as much as its an enthusiast that is selling it. hope it is sonic blue though! thanks for the brochure link.
  11. Sept 2000 X reg classic turbo...blue...know of blue mica, sonic blue....what else was there that year? any more blues? while i am on the subject...does anyone know where a subaru impreza turbo brochure can either be purchased or downloaded from that last year of the classics please?
  12. whats it called, this petrol...will check my local store for it.
  13. so how much per litre or gallon is this wonder fuel from tescos then?
  14. any you guys know of an independent subaru specialist in the lincolnshire area please? i know of scoobyclinic near nottingham, just wondered if there was anyone nearer to me in Lincoln.
  15. because, Julian...mpg is a consideration in just the same way as, has the car got an appauling safety record, is it practical...everyone knows about the performance and their thirstyness, but if you do a lot of miles and want to enjoy doing them, then mpg is important. especially as fuel is £4 a gallon or more. suppose if you can chuck a tenner at 30 miles worth of driving, shouldnt you be in a 911 or something! if i get mid 20's and enjoy it then i wont be moaning, i am just asking other peoples advice and knowledge of living with a car that i havent got yet. if i had to fill up every day, that would sour the experience and i would look elsewhere for my jollies. it might be worse if i was some numpty that jumped into scooby ownership not knowing the real world performance of the car rather than not asking the question i originally posed.
  16. er...there would seem to be a theme going on here! yeah, i really do know that the economy is shocking but i believe that with acute discipline i can coax out the hidden frugalness within the boxer engine!!! yeah right! okay, mpg isnt the main thing here for me, else i wouldnt have just sold a 3 year old E39 BMW 5 series diesel...how unreliable was that car?! anyway, i do have to take into account that i do 250 miles a week getting to work and then maybe 100 for work use, some weeks less. so the mileage i get paid for will be handy. and i am gonna give it the berries from time to time, but not all the time. think i probably am a similar driver to Alex so i would hope to get that sort of mpg. anyway...what is it that makes it such a thirsty engine as there are other 2 litre 4x4 turbo's out there that are more economical than a scooby. is it something peculiar to that type of engine?
  17. thanks for the welcome...shoulda said "HI" first...want sure if i had done that already. one of the car guides reckons 30mpg is certainly an acheivable average...suppose they got that from subaru's own figures, i dunno. i will certainly use the performance but on the whole it will be driven with a light right foot...i will be using it for work and although work pays me some mileage, i will be doing about 16k a year. the other car i have considered is a toyota celica 190 t sport....190bhp and the salesman reckons 25 - 30 mpg for that car. so if they are pretty similar the scooby wins on the practicality and performance stakes.
  18. i am about to buy an impreza turbo this week, so long as i find the right one. i know its all about performance and that the fuel consumption isnt great. but, what could i expect from driving sensibly, 50-60mph on a normal A road? could i get 30+ mpg do you think? thanks.
  19. i really really dont know what to do for the best. the fuel economy worries me the most i have to say, though i have to do a round trip of 50 miles to get to work i do get 40pence a mile for my work mileage so it might not work out too expensive? i used to own a gt4 celica and i just love my performance cars but i have to convince her indoors that i wont be filling it up twice a week and it making us skint!!! what to do? my first thoughts were to get a bmw 330d as that has performance and economy, though the mpg is not masses better than the scooby, plus it would cost several thousand pounds more to buy. as would an audi a6 2.5 tdi quattro, which was also on my shortlist. um.....stuck again i think, cos i will only buy german or japanese so kinda limiting my options a bit. the scooby is very appealing and would only be used for work while having an audi estate for weekends or trips away and i have a fireblade for my jollies! might have to bite the bullet and hope i could get 350 to a tank and that way she that must be obeyed might be swung over. what you guys reckon? am i being realistic? thanks for the replies.
  20. Hi folks, just joined up as i am thinking about purchasing an Impreza Turbo and have a small handful of questions...hope i have posted this in the right section. anyway... i am looking to purchase a 2000 model turbo with no more than 60,000 miles that will have full service history. i will be using it for my work which entails about 20k miles a year. i will probably only use the power occassionally and generally drive with a light foot, what sort of economy can i expect. the roads i travel are A, motorways and some town work. i also have an expanding family and really dont want the hatchback, is the boot on the saloon big enough for pushchair and shopping and the like? also i trust that everything i have heard about the utter reliability of subaru's is true? i have not been able to find any info on safety tests on this car. any info you guys can provide would be great, many thanks.
