"Sorry, this board is no longer available." Has the plug been pulled after the up-set this morning or is maintenance being conducted ? It needed a spring clean anyways... I am a bi-daily contributor in the Scottish Scoobies regardless but it would be good to know if the admin resignations has led to the plug being pulled all-together ? Aberdeen meets will still happen anyway with Dale as the RO. Cheers Cal

Heads Up >> Trip To The Nurburgring 2008 ?

I know the very joint you speak of my bro' about to tuck in At the moment it's me and a mate in his remapped Focus RS plus the two wingmen. I would hold off booking anything for now. When we were there it was dead and then a booking for 40 people walked in so we ought to book up nearer the time if the mission comes to fruition On the tourist open days it all seems to be good although if your turn up with a spolier like the one below you might be pulled up ! there is also the alternative of leaving the Ring around 1500 hrs on the Sunday and having a night in Amsterdam......for me the Dam aint nothing special and parking there is a ball ache. However it remains an option -

Cal , Can you tell me what ferry terminal you will be leaving from ? Rosyth or Newcastle , just want to know so i can start getting things organised for me and my brother. I would rather leave as a pack , rather than booking a different ferry and travelling from different places ! Also , are you booking your accomodation at the end of the month aswell ? Keep me posted ! Cheers Paul ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************* Talk about a custard pie ! Sorry Paul I never saw that post at all Here are the dates :- Thursday 8th - Tuesday 13th May 2008 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rough Plan :- Thur 8th Drive to Newcastle for 1700 hrs overnight sail Fri 9th Arrive 0900 hrs in IJMuiden & Travel to Ring <<<< autobahn heaven >>>>/ Check-In to Hotel ( then catch late VLN practice sesh) Action :- Friday evening :- Evening Pub Sesh Sat 10th Action :- Saturday Spectating :- VLN racing on the Saturday // Nordscleife open @ 1700 hrs - 2100 hrs Sun 11th Action :- Sunday :- Nordscleife open @ 0800 hrs - 1700 hrs - this is the main action having a warm up the night before Monday 12th :- Nordscleife open @ 0800 hrs OR Morning visit to the Nurburgring Museum / Drive back to IJMuiden ( Amsterdam) Tuesday 13th Arrive Newcastle and drive home Going by Zeebrugge / Rosyth seem to be poor because a) more congestion in Belgium less autobahn involved I am just waiting on my bonus being confirmed an I shall then book ferry and accomodation ( either the http://www.hotel-am-tiergarten.com/en/nuerburgring/ or ringhaus) Hope this helps Cal -

It's always been like that.....people in the know creep around the car park and only give it full chat when well away from the barriers They noise test all sorts of people to satisfy the regulations i.e tourists etc to build up some nice stats Quote from another forum :- Nothing too bad. Nobody will check the TUV-papers there, but it would mean only this: If you have mods in your car in Germany they must be TUV-approved parts so the car is legally registrated....and that's no news! Most mods have the approval too...If they don't, they are either very low quality or racing parts not intended for road use. For tourists from other countries, the car must be registrated legally with the mods in the home country, and in most civil countries the mods require a TUV-approval or similar... So you have to have a legal car when you drive at Ring during the normal tourist drives! Doesn't sound that bad! But what they will do is start safety checks by technical inspectors running around. For example fluids, harnesses etc...And try to stop junk cars running there. (http://forum.ringersforum.com/viewto...hlight=#283975) But the new 95dB limit does sound a bit dull! Quote from yet another forum :- New, special regulations for the Nurburgring Nordschleife for next year during TouristenFahen. - All German cars, (which must by law TÜV approved) will be allowed, provided that they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for any modifications on the car on demand - Non German cars which are standard will be allowed(*) - Non German cars which are modified will be allowed provided they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for all modifications on demand. The reason for this is to combat the growing number of race cars which have been using TouristenFahren for cheap practice with a set of foreign plates on, and similarly cars with questionable modifications. What the general thinking of this, is it will be enforced somewhat like the current noise testing etc, i.e. provided your car looks alright and proper, and you're well behaved you will be unlikely to get challenged. However, in the event of an incident you'd get in a lot of bother, if you couldn't produce papers... Similarly if your driving or your car attracts attention to itself, you might be checked... Most parts (e.g. KW suspension, AP brakes) have TÜV approval, so you should be able get papers for them easily if they didn't come with your kit, by writing to the manufacturer if you have lost them. Bits off race cars might be harder to explain though.. Can see, and understand why they're doing this from a safety point of view.... Similarly, its going to hope the local specialists, who might well get more business, as a result of perhaps non German tuners not understanding TÜV regulations... If you have specialist components in your car, for which you don't have TÜV certificates, it is possible to get a SuperTÜV done, but its quite costly. the (*) refers to a question mark, which is the SVA approved, road registered cars in the UK, whether they'll be allowed or not.... Whilst it might piss on some people's bonfires, I'd like them not to be allowed... as the likes of Radicals, Atoms, Caterhams, have naf all in the way of crash protection... -
I would have thought it was another opportunity to showcase his life ? I bet Colin himself would have wanted it to go ahead. Och well

Update :- As expected the following is confirmed 10th May a VLN race is on .....this makes Knockhill look like a LIDL carpark ( jump to 1 min 35 for the real action). The VLN racing incorporates the GP circuit and the Nordschleife itself. Spectating does not come much better than thisMore here :- ( NUTTER in the rain in a Porsche Turbo with lots of lag/oversteer.......)Aligned with my proposed dates, the track is open for the public on :- * Saturday evening * ALL day Sunday * ALL day Monday Myself and a mate ( remapped Focus RS ) are gonna book by the end of this month Cal
