  1. my ra has the flutter noise at low boost like changing gear in the town with the big dump at hard revs. the wife has now nicknamed the scooby hannibal as she says in the town it sounds like him ater he say what eating people is like and after a bottle of cianti..... now when it does it in the town i keep thinking of silence of the fekkin lambs.
  2. some times the ra when im giving it some welly seems to have a flat spot/caugh, it ok from first to 4th but then caughs and then goes and if you keep accelerating thru 5th it does it again. only does it when your taking off real quick. its like the fuel piles up the back of the tank and starves its self but it did it the day with 3/4 of a tank of fuel.
  3. not sure if they still doing it but the petrol station in mosstodloch were selling unleaded at 124 /ltr. my ex works there and was telling me about it last week. worth a look maybe
  4. this is sooo true kenny. tho the wife cant see it, she is the kind of driver that gets in turns the key drives to where she is going and thats it. lol hope to have all the bugs out of mine ready for the highland fling too
  5. dam the bit. having had a bit of bad luck with the old scoob these last couple of weeks, first was the thrust bearing retaining ring breaking, then crank shaft oils seal going........ then going again after i did not seat it all the way in and it wore against the timing cog!!!!! i went to settle the garage bill, john at maclarens been a great help with some good advice and p*** taking, , got the shock of my life...... ready.... clutch kit- £280, timing belt-£100 odd, 2 belt idlers and tensioner idler,-£90, oil seals x5 £23 plus another £8 for second crank seal , two gallon of oil after senond seal change -£50, oil filter £10, and after second front strip down thought i had better replace tensioner piston -£110! plus some other little bits like tensioner pulley retaining bolt stripping the thread in the block . i have now forgot how much money i have put into garage (think it totals £400) and still have another £190 to pay and still would like to change the plugs and the thermostat..its just as well i love this ra or i would have set fire to it by now, actually, the price of petrol i probably was still cheaper fixing it
  6. woohoo. after a fraught week trying to get scooby back together after crank seal that i did not fit properly first time, grrr, poped out. then got new seal and srtipped threads in tensioner pulley, grrrrrrr, got that sorted then got sent wrong new tensioner so had to wait even longer, grrrrrrrrrrrr, i thought i nwas never going to get car fixed but lo and behold on the day i get my sidc membership thru the post i finally get car back on the road. it will wear the sticker with pride now lol
  7. i was driving back from banff on the huntly road and saw a white P1 i think it was a P1 with a black bonnet , dont know whos that was as not seen it before and as i was not in my scoob as was away getting bits to finish it i did not flash. same as there is a black bug eyed one around turrif that gives us a flash when we pass.. love the comorardery of it all
  8. it is just entertainment but have to agree this time round that long feature on the sweeny was a bit much, like hammond not knowing ray winston.funnyest feature was the robin relaint with jeremy was just hilarious but also a good feature of the robins history too, wereas the sweeny one was just pure stupid. need more road trips and their build challenges, ' i mean how hard can it be.....?' maybe this will get better. but like their news spot it can be a bit tounge in cheek. and i like the fact that they say it like it is, which has got jeremy into some trouble, love the un pc of it all
  9. i have been wondering about this de cat thing as my '95 ra has a straight thru pipe from the turbo back and was wondering will this affect the mot?
  10. might need to narrow this down a bit,in side or out, front or back? do you get a knock when you power away again and knock again when you come off the pedal? like scoobywho says prop maybe, a bit of back lash in the rear diff, dont think it would be a shock as that would knock when you go over a bump or pot hole. could be as simple as a loose jack in the boot or some thing like that moving? if its at the front could be a engine mount or a worn bush.
  11. well hopefully got it sorted, after stripping it down i can see a nice trail of oil from the cranks seal and the cam seals are dry. tho at first glance it looked like the oil was leaking from the crank bearing! checked for play and nothing in/out or up/down. just waiting for timing belt then back to terrorising the tarmac again
  12. ah nice one euan. and powder extinguishers are the ones as co2 one will put fire out but oil will reignite as powder smothers fire better. in my old rally days you could get a pipe extinguisher that you pinned to the inside of your bonnet and if there was a fire then it would burn the pipe and automatically douse the flames. mines in the boot and belive me when your car has flames coming out of it you WILL get to the extinguisher very quickly no matter where it is.
  13. he is a top man and i do the same . like going in and ' john can you do these tires?' 'theres the machine on you go' lol and hes good for the banter and abuse. what do you drive?
  14. pays to carry a fire extinguisher!!!

  15. prime example of why a extinguisher is worth its weight in gold. started carrying them for when i was on the road a lot its handy for accident you might come accross, and there not that dear to buy now.
  16. thanks for that. dont think its filter or pipes as it seems to be throwing oil from above and dripping down onto exhaust, have taken covers off and it seems to be more wet with oil from behind the n/s bank lower pulley. and will do the timing belt any way for i dont know when it was done last. did speak to john last time i was in about a full service as he has been great for information on these as he pointed me in which type of impreza is the best one and he seemed impressed when he took it out the huntly road to 'try it out' for me lol. will nip in by the morn. i can do it myself if he busy as i know my way round a tool box. he might have the proper pulley locking tool too.
  17. how easy are the cam shaft oil seals to change as think i must have one goneand leaked oil out of the belt cover onto the exhaust and then decided it would warm the engine bay up by setting itself on fire! luckly i always cary a extinguisher in the boot so a quick blast put it out. can source new seals for around £15 so if the seals are not to big a job will change timing belt too
  18. im up in aberchirder and me and the mrs were thinking of going up to inverness fri nite so we would be fresh for sat morn
  19. hello, i was wondering how you download a image either my avitar or garage image of my car. think my images are to big. how do i get one of under 500k?
  20. thank you people. i will get pics on soon. have been told the older red ra's are getting rare now.
  21. . hello from aberdeenshire. i decided to get my first scooby just before xmas and after some research i bought a 95 type ra in red. wide arched road hugging 348 brakes worth. ive had a lot of big cars , the last couple being 4ltr jags, and fancied some fun and i dont regret it now. i have never driven anything with so much take off and grip. i just love it to bits. makes you want to go for a spin just for the hell of it. a drivers car
