  2. it comes from that plastic thing on the back of the manifold just cant see where its supposed to go, or what that black thing is or does?any help greatly appreciated, cheers, steve

  5. just wondering what you can get away with for mot?thanks, steve
  6. theres a pipe that comes from under the intercooler that is not connected to anything, i dont know how to upload a picture, so cant show you.ive blocked it off, and the boost is now holding at 0.8 bar with a bit of a drop off after 4500rpm. i now know the turbo is functioning properly. but there is the worst flat spot after 3500 all the way to the redline!!so im now completely lost as to what would cause it!any ideas?cheers, steve
  7. so, ive fitted a boost gauge today, it is boosting 0.5 bar/0.6 bar.and it isnt the boost solenoid, any other ideas??
  8. anyone wanna swap it?! its got lovely leather seats haha
  9. yeah its bog standard mate. its wierd cause sometimes its fine, and others its not. im starting to think ignition system breaking somewhere, or if the cat has collapsed, theres bits moving and letting it boost sometimes and blocking it others.think im gonna stop playing with it myself, and just let the experts do it, a few hundred quid hopefully, and maybe a straight through exhaust to boot, and all will be well.its done my head in haha
  10. only the factory fitted one, think im gonna take it to well lane turbo centre in leeds, and just tell em to sort it no matter what it costs.its doin my head in
  11. just been out in it again, and the boost has dissapeared again!!!! so i thought id take of the hose from the actuator again, just to reassure myself it isnt the turbo, and still no boost!!after a mile or so the car was trying to go, i could feel the turbo cutting in and out,a bit like a coil pack breaking down?or a dodgy spark plug?? what was more concerning, when the turbo was kicking in and out, there was a wierd noise coming from the turbo area under the bonnet:( not a constant noise, but as the car boosted just a short sharp noise(hard to explain)its definitley worse when warm too(the stuttering-not the noise).any ideas guys? should i just run it into a tuning specialist and just say fix it, im losing heart pretty quick:(
  12. heres a sub from harrogate:) anyone wanna come fix my boost:D
  13. my 3rd subaru, and this time a wagon:) lovely leather buckets mmmm ha
  14. well, i got it swapped over, and theres boost!trouble is, not as much as there should be.ordered a boost gauge yesterday, so all been well itll turn up today, and ill have an idea of how much.i reckon its running about 0.5/0.6,ill know def when it turns up.any ideas on why it may be low?cheers, steve
  15. ill let you know the result when ive got it swapped over, cheers mate:)
  16. hi iain. ive managed to get a second hand 1 from a subaru parts specialist in hebden bridge west yorkshire.top bloke, whos driving special to the post office to post it special delivery, so ill defo get it in the morning.all for £35 inc delivery, bargain:) i priced up a new one at subaru and it were £169!no comparison really.i did the test with the actuator pipe this morning, and it boosted, and hit fuel cut, so turbos all well.the restrictor pill is in place, so hopefully this solenoid will cure it, if not, what would you suggest?thanks again mate, steve
  17. cool, cheers mate, hope it dont hurt too much;)
  18. ha, i used to have an escort rs turbo, i just left off the pipe all the time:)till i melted it haha.back to the solenoid then mate, how much are they?and if i bought an aftermarket electronic boost controller, is the standard solenoid still needed?thanks again, youve been a big help, steve
  19. ill check that in the morning:) if not is there a way round it?another guy i spoke to seemed to think the actuator is weak or broken, but the spring feels pretty god damn tight to me
  20. hi iain, thanks for that. i did remove that hose, and it did boost like it should:) i only needed to boost it in first then i turned round and put it back on the drive for more head scratching:) i connected the green connectors under the dash, and couldnt hear the solenoid clicking, but i was told that some just dont in test mode?? if im to replace the solenoid, i have a question, if i were to buy an electronic boost controller, would i still need to replace the standard boost controller solenoid?thanks again, steve
  21. sorry for hijacking, but im having the same issues, did you get it sorted?
  22. hi all. im obviously new to this forum, so hi:) the problem i have is strange, i took my 2002 wrx wagon to the garage as there is hardly any boost.after having all pipes etc checked, without plugging it in they said it was most likely the maf.so i ordered 1, put it in, and it was worse than before, the car would not rev past 4000rpm.so ive put the old 1 back in. the car runs ok, a little low on idle, but not fluctuating, is smooth up until you floor it, and it just feels like its hesitating. ive tried cleaning the solenoid, and ive turned the actuator rod a turn to take up any slack, but still no boost. theres no smoke or dodgy rattles or nothing!!proper confusing. i just want to see what you guys would do first and in what order?i did take off the actuator hose and block it up, just to check the turbo was ok, and at full boost its an animal:) any advice very much appreciated, thanks in advance, steve
