  1. hi guys, well i had a fault code of p1086 which was a sticking tgv passenger side, so i bought a second hand set and made sure they were free from all carbon build up etc, they moved extremely freely. the mechanic forgot to pre tension the sensor after fitting and it still ran in limp mode. once pre tensioned on the left hand side it ran perfectly.......... for about 10 minutes!!them limp mode again!!so we plugged it back in and it now has a fault code p1091!!tgv again!this time the right hand side stuck closed!!he cleared the code and the car ran perfectly again for a while, but then again limp mode. my question is : if we clear the code and it runs ok, means the actual valve cant be stuck, right? so does that mean that the sensor is dodgy? any help advice much appreciated, thanks, steve
  2. im pretty sure its not, as when you take off the tgv sensor, theres definitley something that runs through the tgv's and can be moved with pliers.so the flaps are still in there.im hoping to get it to him in the next 2 or 3 weeks, when hes up this way again.its proper frustrating though!!
  3. thanks for that phil.interesting read that, looks like less messing about to just change the complete manifold. its weird though, cause my manifold is red! prob just been painted though ha
  4. when i had it in for poor running, it threw up the code p1086, passenger side tgv actuator low effort. the guy said it will be the actual butterflys sticking. so either way i need to replace or delete. got a standard set coming, but not convinced the guy i got them off wasnt having the same problem to swap his for sti ones.but well see.... im still on the hunt for sti ones myself, and dont really want to buy a full manifold, fuel rail etc to get them, as the ones i have found wont seperate them from the manifold grrrrrr....
  5. so what model will have the ones i need without having to butcher the oem ones?gonna be getting a guy called duncan from race dynamix to map it for me.just waiting for my exhaust to come, and get this really annoying problem fixed!grrr...
  6. hi all. should there be 2 throttle cables under the bonnet of my 02 wrx?thanks, steve
  7. yup sure are!got a set coming, might butcher them before they go on, as its getting mapped in the next 2 weeks anyway. it is a bit of a mess about, but i believe the newage sti's dont have the tgv's, and the lifters/risers call them what you will, are a direct fitment??been hard trying to source some though!!
  8. a maf sensor can fail without throwing up a code, you can get a cheap second hand one without going to the main dealers, and it would be the first thing id look at
  9. i found that on my old import, and it was alot better with a new good quality battery, not that youd wanna spend 70-80 quid just incase
  10. just a quick question to settle some arguments im having with my old man.when it comes to the tumble generator valves, what are the related pieces?i.e are the butterfly valves(like a throttle body)the tgv's?and if so what are the other bits- the tgv sensor actuator, and whats the other thing under the intercooler on the back side of the manifold on the passenger side?oh.. and should i have 2 throttle cables under there? thanks in advance, steve
  11. ive pretensioned it,now defo in limp mode.what would you do, get the actual tumbler valve or just replace the sensor/actuator?cheers,steve
  12. probably go better than mine at the moment
  13. im counting down the days until payday so i can actually get my car sorted.but ive been thinking, the guy at well lane said it would be the actual flaps that were sticking, but theres a different code for them being stuck open or closed. and i also didnt know that the sensor had to be pre tensioned before putting it back on. so im gonna try this incase someone has had it off before. but if the only code is p1086 tgv low input, do you guys think if i just replace the sensor/actuator it will cure my **** slow car? cheers, steve
  14. hi. am i right in thinking that as you look under the bonnet, they are mounted directly under the manifold on each front corner?thanks alot, steve
  15. would that also be known as an actuator? cheers, steve
  16. i think it was p1086.yeah he did, went out in it with the laptop hooked up and the manifiold pressure was 150 odd, should be a hundred either side, so said the engine is only getting half the air it needs.causing it to go into limp mode and cutting boost.injection cleaner not doing the job i dont think. its nice to know its not anything massive though
  17. well after my day at well lane, i thought id share my experience, and the problem i was having is one that ive not heard mentioned on any forum and is often mistaken for other things.the mechanic said in the 10 years hes only had to do 3. the fault i was having can be found under '' no boost '' . the pipe that i didnt know where it were supposed to connect is an open air breather. the fault i was having was the ''manifold air actuator sensor vacuum'' and as a first point of call, 2 tanks with wynns injection cleaner, the second port of call if that doesnt work, is an intake manifold cleaner spray into each corner of the inlet- through the throttle body. if that doesnt work, its a manifold off job to replace, and 300 bucks from the main stealers.totaling nearly 500 quid with labour. so if anyone has been having running problems, i hope this has given you something else to consider, cheers steve
  18. yeah i were thinking that i am happy yeah, but im finding im having to lean in to the mic to talk.but yeah all in all a good stereo for the brass
  19. i shall have a look, thanks alot,steve
  20. hi all. as this place is the nearest rolling road to me, the problems ive been having with my car, are hopefully gonna be cured here. im just wondering if anyone has experience of them?they do remaps for new age imprezas at 420 all in, is this reasonable?and again if anyone has had tuning done there, where you happy?any experiences shared , very much appreciated, cheers, steve
  21. yeah there is iain, thats just where ive plumbed in the boost gauge. that black thing defo just has that 1 pipe and that 1 connector to it.it is a uk model, and id imagine it does have a job to do. a question for ya, if the car is pretty much over oiled, would it make the car do what what it has been?in 3rd gear 0.9 bar boost, it wouldnt rev over 5500!!and took a while gettin there too! bought a dud aint i haha
