Updates...
New engine is in - mapped - run in - oil changed.
Its just getting some finishing bits and bobs done to wiring for MSA Blue book regs. It SHOULD be out on track on the 16th IF the spare wheels (gold) fot over the calipers.
New wheels arrived today - but dont have the arch mods done to accomodate them yet LOL 9" wide on a classic 2dr.
how the car was looking.... front splitter setup is slighty different now.
Be good to get it back out on track and hopefully used in Nippon and SMRC Sports & Saloons before the end of the year

good luck guys

I'm on Impreza engine 3 now - so yes..... it was a killer or i'm a killer.... one or the other. JDM DCCD 6sp is on the cards when the turbo change is done... aiming to get around 500bhp'ish....
I dont get to drive the Skyline much these days
-
will I be fast enough.....
I'd be fast enough to get in your group (of course) but doubt i'd be in it due to OHW stuff LOL
Still - I have the backup plan of a stinger strip thing :|
Being honest - I dont mind not entering Snet. Its not really a good track for my car I was at about 8k revs on the back straight in 5th with 340'ish bhp last year - I'll be just banging off the limiter with the near 400 it has now. At least it has brakes and suspension now - so corners could be gone round rather than through/over etc
Fee's collection of vids (I think the incar of the final is funny. Fee - a lot of folk put more 'effort' into driving to the shops Thats not a bad things - just saying your style is quite laid back )
Practice
Qualifying
Final (in car camera didnt seem to work so its just rear view and a nice wee clip of me bouncing around!)
-
you can see on the pic below - i think she hit traffic on her fastest lap (1:40.8) at Hall Bends. She's a good 10mph slower at that one section for that lap - comapred to previous best laps (all laps can been seen listed on left window) RED is her fastest lap btw.
excuses I know - everyone had the same traffic to deal with when you think about it. Better planning / judgement etc
-
It is close
Fee REALLY needed that 3rd - and to miss it by 0.006 doesnt even comprehend. I cant even imagine how small that gap is
Still - 70 points for 4th is better than 0! All to play for in the final round..... no pressure
Here is Fee's qualy vid. -
I'll get some data logs up in a moment - I really think Fee could have had 2nd - i'm biased though
-
I'm interested
-
Seems to be less and less Impreza on track now and more and more EVO's!
I was hoping to make it along but my Impreza still wasnt ready and had a family outing planned.
-
To much power is easily sorted it's called multiple maps
multiple maps are all very well... but they dont really change much if you have a big (more laggy) turbo and cams for example.
I only use multiple maps for different fuels.
-
as said above....
brakes and susp, then lightness .... once you have hindered by lack of power sort out the engine.
Too many folk do the opposite and are hindered by too much power
-
Any vids Scott?

Fee's version of events.... http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/timeattack/.../2010round3.htm
Well, the Brands curse has finally been broken! 3 years, 4 engines and an 11 hour drive later, I arrived at Brands Hatch racing circuit! Thank god!Having never been to Brands before, I decided to do a testing day a couple of days before the main event to try to learn the track a bit. Come race morning and the first warm up session, I was still learning! At least the car was still working, despite a few random small oil drips. The track was hot and I couldn't seem to pick up the pace. My fastest time was a 55.753. I knew I would have to go a lot faster to be in with a chance, but wasn't feeling confident. After a pep talk from Adam from Russia, and some track tips from Shane Smith (Club Pro competitor) I was ready to go out for the practice session.
The track was getting hotter, as was the driver! My tyres were going off after just a lap and I was 4 wheel drifting in and out of most of the corners! I managed a 54.799, placing me 6th overall and 2nd in class...just behind Scott Robson. I was feeling more confident and it was time to get the wrecked tyres off and a better set on for the qualifying session.
Scott and I parked up in the pit lane early to get out on track first so we could get our hot laps in at the start. Our plan backfired though, as by the time we got back round to the pit straight, there were still cars coming out of the pits and straight onto Paddock Hill bend. I still managed to get a 54.184 on my first hot lap though, which was a relief. Later in the session I managed to get behind Steve Linton in his crazy quick Supra and followed him around the track to get a 54.144. Even better! Scott beat me to first place with a 53.912, but still 4 points in the bag!
Time dragged up to the final session. I was ready to get out there and give it my all, but had to sit patiently until it was eventually time. I was out first and keen to get my fastest lap in straight away as I knew the tyres and brakes weren't going to last long in the heat. I maybe went a bit too gung ho and had a bit of a 'moment' at Graham Hill Bend. Apologies to Walter who was behind me! The next lap had to be better...and it was 53.659! My quickest lap of the day. I did a few cool down laps and attempted another couple hot laps, but my times were getting slower and my tyres were worse. Another few cool down laps and into the pits. I knew by that point that I just was not going to go any faster and decided to call it a day and hope for the best. Russ (Wallace Performance) sent me out for another couple of cool down laps as my brakes were smoking and then I parked it up and kept my fingers crossed that no one managed to a faster lap in the last few minutes. Thankfully they didn't and my time was good enough for 2nd place in my class. Well done Warren Kelly on your 1st place, and Scott Robson on 3rd place, it was SO close!
I'm so glad I finally made it down to Brands Hatch after all this time, and it makes it even more worthwhile coming home with a 2nd place trophy! What an epic weekend!

Great results for two Scottish Scoobies members
Fee came 2nd in the final, Scott (Gambler) 3rd
Fee beat Scott by a HUGE 0.025 second margin.... Oooof, close doesnt quite descibe that gap!
Fee - 53.659
Scott - 53.684

John S has heaps of pics that I'm sure he'll post up
-
Scott - yup... a lot of folk seem to make the mistake that its just like a track day.
I dont think Fee or I really push that hard on trackdays. Fee certainly doesnt anyway.
-
They were cracked right through in 2 places. I was ready to take my chances with 1 flying lap on the final, lesson from Oulton un-learned!
LOL
Nutter.
What size of discs are they? We've cracked a few sets over the years now.
Fee was bedding in brakes on the warmup session - I hate the heat that is generated when bedding them in. The wheels were buring to touch when she came in.
-
possibly.... just not sure if i'll be in the coutry
I'm away to Sakhalin on Monday.... touch and go wether I'll be home in time for Brands.

update(s)
Took out another engine on the 6th Feb (suspected bigend bearing.... again). It was a second hand engine, and was always a bit loose sounding from the off.
It is being replaced with a freshly built Lateral 2.1 stroker.
EJ20 Closed Deck block.
EJ257 2.5lt STI crank, block machined to suit.
Lateral H Beam long stroker rod set
Lateral/Wiseco custom 2.1lt piston kit, with up rated pins
Uprated oil pump
layered metal HG's
Heads - The old (second) engine had a set of worked (by BGV) heads on them with race cams. These were sent down to RCM for inspection and after a bit of deliberation it was decided that these werent the best for my application. Sent another two sets of heads to RDM (standard V4, and SMG V3) for inspection. The SMG worked heads were chosen and built up with supertec valves, titanium valve gear and the piper race cams.
Turbo - Rebuilt the TD05-20G that was on before. Will use this for running the car in, and then see where the wind takes me.
Inlet manifold tidied up
8mm bung to replace one way breather valve (that I had blocked off anyway)
cleaned and masked
same blue as Skyline cage..... hope it'll look ok in the Impreza engine bay LOL
Headers wrapped.....
The engine and car are now rady for re-fitting.
-
I use Paisley Frieght for engines/gearboxes - no problems and quite cheep.

In Car vid from Jamie Wilson in the Exige.... very good quality vid, and some smooth driving.
Jamie Wilson, came 2nd in Club Forced RWD. No idea on the power output of the car, but it isnt slow.
and some footage of qualifying.

I'm not sure what the power difference is between scott and Fee, or the car weight. I know Fee is lighter than Scott
Fee seemed to be faster on KH speed traps, but Scott was quicker on Oulton speed traps. So.... no real clear cut answer on which car has the power/weight advantage. Get them side by side on a long straight LOL
I think fee's has more grunt for sure (570bhp at the flywheel), but it still must be around 1300kg without driver.
I'm Baaaaaack :)

Pass - I'm all over (West of Shetland just now LOL ) - I wouldnt want to work for any length of time in that **** hole either.
Turbos - Dont plan to go rotated (not yet anyway)
Plan 500bhp on a standard mount MD321 (T would it be?) and some gearbox mods (JDM DCCD 6sp) to suit.
500bhp is MORE than enough..... I cant help thinking a lot of these cars coming out now are all about headline figures - wouldnt fancy trying to keep it on track at that sort of levels.
