  1. washed the car, fitted the XP10 pads and went on the look for some more castor

First up was flipping the mount for the alloy lower arms (to the ALK) 180deg. The mount is offset so this pushes out on th rear of the arm and forward a touch. Secondly I made sure the ALK's were mounted as far forward in there slots as possible.

Its visably added more castor, and given some toe in that will need sorted

crappy pics... but this is the mount I flipped

    after

    clean'ish

longer wheel studs and some hubcentric spacers arrived ;) I'm being optimistic and thinking I can space them out 16mm more :D 5mm shims allround in pics above, could have gone with an ET15 or 9.5" rim but wouldnt have got these wheels in those sizes

    see what happens

  2. took it to Ingliston -

Butchered the arches..... (looks like the car was in as good condition as I though... no rust, no signs of filler etc on all 4 arches.... I did have doubts as i was hacking them up but too late )

It was at this point I really did think I'd made a huge mistake - and was looking up prices for 22B kits to sort the mess out LOL

but... with the wheels on I'm a bit happier now... some further 'trimming' will prob be required once I adjust the ride heights.

  3. Do you use the car on track, with sticky tyres?

If not I would suggest that its not really needed.

If you're going to the hassle of removing the sump and fitting the windage try you may as well fit a baffled sump too.

  4. a pic showing its lovely gold wheels LOL mmm mmm (Simons old ones finally making it onto the car as a stop gap till the widearches are done)

Fee needed to fit a 5mm shim to clear the struts on the rears - high offset wheels, about 2deg camber.

The Advans dont clear the front brakes so they'll be up for sale soon.

    IMG_4935.jpg

also looks like a fair amount of weight transfer (to the rear under acel) going on in the pic... no idea what she had the susp set up as, or even if the ride heights are quite right LOL

  5. yup, no point paying 5x the price for Carbon LOL

ABS or GRP is just as light :brickwall:

    Scott - Your rear struts/susp. EXE-TC yup?

Fee had to fit some 5mm shims to the rear of the Impreza today so the tyres would clear the struts. How much rear camber are you running? Do you have any issues like this?

This is with the STi7/8 gold 17"'s (bloody Advans dont clear my brakes when heated up (like yours LOL)). Tyres are 215 888's. Car was setup with the RG1's on which are a lower offset so would have not been an issue.

  6. Aye Aye Scott.

What TD wheels did you go for? I take it they are sorting out their cock up FOC? I eventually got my wheels through from them... about 1 month. Phoned up gave them grief and they were still in 'production' - 2 days later they arrived. b******s. 17"x9" wide for the Impreza though hehe.

Looking at your RR results... is that right you have 380lbft?

And you were doing 140 at Cadwell :brickwall:

  7. Depends what sort of use you'll be putting the car too.

JCD 6 speed would slow you down on the strip with the extra shift just before the line.

Seriously thinking about taking my straight cut out as it's a bit much on the road.

    circuit - not drag.

The current close ratio box is a fun, but a bit too short for some tracks, and the change from close 4th to long 5th isnt the best. Snetterton back straight wasnt fun - clocks (still in KM) wound all the way back to 0, revs god knows where.

Anyway - back on topic - I'll create a fresh topic on this when the current box is due for changing

  8. Good to hear you had fun guys - wouldnt mind having a pop at TOTB myself (Impreza isnt quite up to it yet though :) )

Peter - what changes are needed for your car, and what tyres were you running? Do you plan to use it daily or get it a bit more track focussed (firmer susp, more lightness etc)

Chris - what happened to yours? Gear troubles too?

I'm trying to decide the best route for my car (aiming 500-550) - JDM 6sp DCCD or keep the current STi 5sp and drop in the SC 1-4 gear-set. Any opions on either option. Costs would prob work out the same. Weight saving sticking with 5sp.
