About zackspeed280

  1. Cheers Chief, My first car was a Mk2 Capri! I've currently got a long line of projects patiently waiting for me to find all their bits and get on with them. Including 2 Mk2s with 3.1 essexes of which one has the Mk2 'half' x-pack. One 2.8 Turbo X-Pack with 5-linked rear suspension, a 280 24V supercharged that will be rebuilt as new a la how Ford would have done it in the 1990s and even a convertible Bullitt V8 (rare kit car Aston Martin 7/8 copy). I'd love to see or hear about your family half-x pack, especially if it's an original one. Is it left hand drive? Everyone else!!!! Any suggestions as to what clutch I go for??????
  2. Hi Mate, I've been rebuilding capris for years and having them full body sprayed but not for a while so I did a little research recently for my wedding car rebuild. A mate of mine advised I go to Perrys in Aylesbury and speak to their bodyshop. Well, the standard of the repairs and repaints (his friends Merc convertible had just finished a full body respray with colour change) is outstanding. So they repainted my capri shell and I built it into the wedding car in Sep, the job they did for me was outstanding - mirror finish as well. As soon as I can I'll be taking my Impreza to them to fix a little dent, I obviously can't quote for you but their prices are 1/2 to 1/3 of what I expected and the standard off the scale. Pop in and ask for Chris (or Buff!) and get a quote. Chris Can't post photos from this pc but the wedding car is at: CapriPower Forum Wedding Car linky
  3. Naturally just before Christmas and winter my clutch is starting to wear out. It's now over revving when boost comes on - while its doing wonders for my smooth and economical driving technique and may be a new brilliant traction control device for the snow I'd rather use my right foot as what decides how much power!! I've a slightly modified (@ 275bhp apparently) MY00 Turbo Wagon. What clutch would people suggest and as I spend my spare time working on Capri's and my Westfield - any advice on who to take it to in Bucks? Cheers!!
  4. For my 2000 Turbo Wagon (@275bhp) which admitidly is road use only as I have a Westfield for track use, although the roads I commute on are rather Nurbergring I use EBC Ultimax discs with EBC yellow pads. Brilliant discs with an exceptional rust proof coating that is worn off on the braking surfaces by an outer bedding layer on the pad. Brilliant fade free stopping from cold, very little dust on the wheel and what is there cleans off easily. Yes they are more expensive than almost all other standard size discs and pads but in my experience well worth it. As someone that keeps his car outside, the added rust prevention on the ultimax discs is excellent as all non-braking surface retains a rust proof coating - looks and works a damm sight better than plain metal surface rust!!!
  5. DZUser If Pristine are the ones at Woburn Sands, I've been using them for years for Capri wheels and will be using them again soon. Very good service and if you've got new tyres, MK Tyres in Leighton Buzzard are excellent for fitting them to your fresh alloys - they take extra care with alloys and always think before doing work. They recommend you leave the paint to harden for a week before fitting tyres to refurbished rims. TYREMAN I haven't used Smart Touch but am willing to - I've got 3 sets to do soon - one of which are 13*10 compomotive split rims, are you able to do split rims as most companies say no. I'm assuming they have to come apart to be done? Cheers Chris
  6. Not sure for Whiteline but I emailed Camskill regarding discount and they said if you put SIDC in the comments on your order (Parts only, not tyres) they'll put a discount on it. Mention me as I asked and that should remind them. Camskill delivered m new shocks a dy and a half afterI ordered them - amazing. Again, good polite people with excellent prices. Can rarely find cheaper tyres.
  7. Many thanks, I hadn't considered anti-roll bar thickness until they asked me what I had. I guess I'll go with the 19mm until I change that later in life. Bloody brilliant car (tows the Westfied better than my previous V8 Range Rover!) Next upgrades will be polybush the rear supension and change the front discs for EBC Ultimax Sport with yellow pads to match the rears - have yellow pads on the front but with standard discs at the moment but they are wearing!
  8. Of course, do mention I sent you as I've asked them to do a capri 2.8i kit in black to disguise on my 280 rather than the orange standard that I've got from them for my race car! http://www.floflex.co.uk 01745 360 070
  9. Floflex alloy ones, appeared to me the best value for money and the company are very helpful and polite:
  10. Just collecting all the parts for my 2000 Classic Turbo Wagon suspension. She's done over 100K so I'm replacing all the shocks, springs with Janspeed -25mm, polybushing the front suspension, anti roll bars and alloy polybushed droplinks front and rear as well as new lower front ball joints. (Should get rid of the knnk I can't locate!) Have everything except the anti roll bar bushes - checked the thickness of my front roll bar yesterday as 19mm. That sounds very thin to me - even my capris hve 24mm ones. I've read that different models have different thicknesses and that increasing the rear one will get rid of some of the understeer. What are peoples advice and which models are best for basic upgrade for my classic wagon. Does 19mm sound right for the Turbo Wagon? Ta Chris
  11. I have a hugely gorgeous retro 3.1 V6 5-speed (ultra rare bellhousing) Mk2 Ghia in silver with a black vinyl roof for sale fitted with 7*13 ronals that were only available in Germany and are probably the only set in this country. Needs a complete respray and new vinyl after a little bit of welding but the engine and mechanics are all overhauled - I just haven't got around to the body yet! Complete would be worth about £5K, have been estimated £2.5K for a show paint-job with the welding done - hence its still sitting waiting for me to get around to it so you need to see the potential first!!!
  12. MK is excellent, I once night raced the twin engined karts in a non-pro Bucks Business league in the rain once and it was awsome - with Honda F1 et al being rather too professional! I've used Aylesbury a number of times over the last few years with mates at work and it is excellent too but very different from MK. Pro's and cons depend on what you want. Aylesbury is great for close racing but can get backed up when trying to overtake. MK is an international track and you need to field the max no of karts they will allow or you'll just be doing continious qualifying laps as you all spread out. Both run team events and I'd recommend doing that so you're not racing for more than 30 mins at a time (it is very tiring and MK's karts especially so as they are so much more powerful and faster). Teams of 2 (perhaps partners...!) for an endurance race at Aylesbury is excellent fun and the last time I went there we all had a great time. You end up racing for longer, have pit-stops to change drivers and near the end you can hear the cheering even through your helmet! Count me in for whichever event the masses want to go with as they are both supurb. MK will be more expensive but racing in the rain is entertaining. I'll even bring my better half as my co-driver, see if I can't practice in the Westfield first.
  13. You'd think but I do all my own work on the capri's except paint and have mates in the Service that can do full paint jobs for me but I want the Impreza to be done 'properly', locally and they take months over paint jobs. Unfortunatly capri's are being cut down in numbers! Just sold one of my 2.8s. But its going to a good home. And another one of my capri mates has just bought a salloon version of my Impreza! Catching!!!
  14. Hi all, unfortunatly while emptying my garage while jet-lagged I accidentally reversed my impreza forgetting that a trailer was attached. I now have a dent in the rear left quarter - anyone know of any good bodyshops in the local area? One perhaps that won't insult me by saying the whole of the side of the car needs respraying!!! Cheers. Chris
