  1. thanks again for all the help mate. Ive done about 900 miles since the clutch slip problem and its gone sweet. was very cautious for the first few miles and slowly gave it more and at the moment no slippage at all with shifts going into high boost no problem. It's too hard to not drive it like an impreza when it feels fine. maybe it was a rogue slip? is that possible? I had just had a lil race off the lights with my dad in an audi TT and gave it a sweet pull off about 3000 rpm 2min before parking it on the steep kerb when the clutch slipped and smelt.
  2. thanks for that mate. Ill be giving it some carefull pull off's, but will i be ok still changing gear around 4-6 thousand revs? did u get the £160 exedy or £299 ones?
  3. Ive got a 2001 bug eye impreza (its a uk300 prodrive model) Its done 105 thousand miles on its clutch. unless it was changed in the first 2 years as I have alll paperwork from 2003 onwards. I was reversing up a kerb today, nice n gently to watch the front bumper/splitter, the back wheels went up lovely, but as it got to the fromt wheels I was slipping the clutch but it seemed to not be releasing (still slipping) and sending no drive to the wheels. I had a strong smell of clutch (which I have never had before) so rolled forward and let the cluch pedal go and it released fine and rolled up a bit faster than desired. basically I think shes on the way out but i gotta drive 450miles tomorrow and 450 back thursday (I’ll be out truck driving so cant get it repared in between) before I can get it looked at. My dad said to not worry for now, but when i get to my mates garage back home after maybe another 1000 miles. park up on the handbrake and try pulling off to force a stall to check the clutch is still tidy like... Im off at 2.30am (a few hours) so any feedback tonight is appreciated. Jamie- south wales also, whats the best price package to replace the whole clutch, bearing etc thanks in advance
  4. well folks i'm surprised that no-one knows when I should change my spark plugs. Thought u guys knew your stuff on here?
  5. I had the spark plugs done 12 months ago, and was starting to think if they needed doing again soon. Also what brands are proven in the impreza, I think I'll have a go myself as a mechanic talked the process through and even though its a flat 4 apparently its easy with a long socket with a universal joint. any responses welcome for a sparky discussion folks!
  6. hey, I have gold OZ 18" prodrive rims, they looked the business when the car was new, but that was some 8years ago now and they are looking a bit sorry after all those harsh british winters and the dust off the mighty 330mm discs. Basically im looking for a decent refurbishment to get them back to their original gold. I'd like to drive there and have them strip the tires off and put some new toyo proxies on that i will also provide. Has anyone had something similar done and can recommend some place as I dont want to pay out good money for something that won't look standard (ie not the same gold/quality as new) thanks peoples I live in the south wales area too but don't mind driving or posting the wheels if the the deal is right!
  7. Hello peoples, I'm in despirate need for a GB270 front bumper and splitter, the poor old thing has been in the wars the last 7 days hitting a rabbit last night and a van last week (oops). Any help ASAP would be sweet as I dont want to pay top dollar at the dealer. Are their any well known breakers that stock almost everything as the model is quite new and rare (being only 270) Big thanks in advance Jam
  8. Looking for polyurathane chemicals to make a decent fit race seat. Anyone got any decent web sites?/suppliers supposed to make a sweet fitting seat when the fast expanding foam is used in a heavy duty bin bag then cut out to fit when set (15 min) then a quick cover any help would be nice folks
  9. Ok I took some pictures today to show you some of the install, The Alpine Head Unit (model. CDE-9881RB) is a ipod interface unit so you can just plug in the pod and stash it wherever with the 1m cable and run the pod through the head unit menu's. I like this method as the head unit charges the ipod and the sound quality is great, however many of you may enjoy a cheaper option with an aux-in where you still use the ipod to control the music (downside is loss of quality and battery charge) Anyways thats enough on head units except.... don't buy them from halfords if you can fit them yourself go to www.caraudiosecurity.com and if you cant fit them learn at www.fitaudio.com its easy. and dont buy cheap brands quality matters with head units. I could have gone for a double DIN head unit but decided to fit the pocket supplied by FHI (fuji heavy industries) for the forester which matches the 2001 impreza dash quite well. If your going for a double DIN I think it's gotta have a TV screen and those are pricey and cant be removed at night (except by the chav's on the street who see it). So anyways I run the Alpine E speakers off the head unit and then the JL audio 8"sub in the ski hatch is run off the Vibe black box 3. I think it maintains the stealth style install which is all covered up when the arm rest is put away. So as you can see the last thing I need is a stealth shelf with some 6x9's hiding away. By the way I rate the JL audio 8" sub big time, off ebay.com bargain except £25 delifvery. Maybe it should be boxed for clarity but i'm still thinking that one over. Jam
  10. I'm looking around the internet for a reasonable priced stealth shelf for my uk300 2001 Impreza. I don't know if any of you are interested in sound installs here on SIDC but as I'm a Sound Engineer and a Petrol Head it's hard not to be right? I've already fitted an Alpine Head unit, Alpine Door speakers (direct fit) and a JL Audio 8"sub in the ski hatch (arm rest seat panel) but just fancy a nice mid range from a decent stealth shelf. Anyways if any of you are interested in Car Audio and Scoobies maybe we could start a bit of a chin wag. I can post pics etc if anyone is interested. Jam
  11. this you tube video is just amazing, its ken block practicing for an american version of auto testing. Cant believe him and Travis Pastrana didn't kick ass in the PWRC this year but apparently its tough at the top. Jam
  12. hey folks I have a uk300 spoiler (the shark fin style) and it likes to shake/bounce a little when passing rough bits on the road, pot holes n bumps etc. I drove a gb270 recently and even though it's got a bigger spoiler it didn't rattle at all, I've checked it out in the boot and it's got nylon screws on one side and corroded metal on the other side, holding it down they seem tight, maybe its got worn from the previous owner as the boot drops down very hard from the extra weight, something else I noticed about the gb270 it had a stronger boot spring to resist the weight of the spoiler when closing. any help would be appreciated and any web shops I can get some replacement nylon screws and a stronger boot spring. Thanks all
  13. bugger I have the 330mm prodrive discs, pads and calipers. I changed the discs and pads recently as the last set wore terrible, on both sides the inner pad seized and never moved, this meant that the other pad was pushing the disc onto the other side, this meant crap break life and the strength got dire before I could get the brakes as I had to wait 8 weeks from prodrive!! I hoped to cure this by giving the caliper a good blast with the air line and clean all the dust/crap in the pad mount. I haven't had the wheel off yet to see if the pads are wearing smoothly but should do soon as they have had 2 months to wear in and about 800miles, the brakes work a treat however they make a bit of a wuring sound when breaking from speed down to roundabouts for example(is this normal if anyone else has the prodrive pads/discs?). I used to get the rumble before I changed the discs and still have it now. hopefully it's the wheels tho as thats easier/cheaper. will get them looked at tomorro.
  14. nice one stu saved me a trip to the garage for the wrong thing, think I'll leave it till next week when i go see my folks and go to a trusted local tyre guy.
  15. if you do a quick youtube search for petter solberg fall of click you will see the fall, there was no phil to save the day in the car and poor petter got a bit carried away and made a poor landing on the floor. So a bad week for petter. Sorry dude
  16. when on the motorway doing 100mph the steering wheel and dash will vibrate quite noticeably this then fades as you accelerate above this speed to around 120, However i also have this problem when driving A roads and steering on long bends at around 80 Mph. I don't know if this is the wheel alignment or when the wheel alignment was last done if ever and the car is a 2001 uk300. If anyone could give me a quick response as I'm off the the local wheel alignment centre soon. Jam
  17. JUST INCASE ANY OF YOU HADNT NOTICED SUBARU HAVE DROPPED OUT OF THE WRC. AS FOR PRODRIVE THE SWRT PROJECT IS ONLY 20% OF THEIR BUSINESS AS THEY ARE A BIG ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY, I THINK IT'S VERY SAD THEY HAVE LEFT BUT I'M SURE DAVID RICHARDS IS CLEVER ENOUGH TO DO A MALCOM WILSON AND RUN CAR'S IN THE FUTURE COMPLETELY RUN BY SPONSORSHIP (LIKE THE ABU DHABI TEAM) SO MAYBE 2009 WILL BE A DEVELOPMENT YEAR AND A BUILD UP FOR 2010 A SABATICAL YEAR WORKED WELL FOR CITROEN AND THE C4 DEVELOPMENT. PEACE YALL!
  18. think its only on cars first registered after april 2001 as I checked my reg on the dvla web site the other day. sweet.
  19. Nice one guys i'd say your all like jedi masters without it sounding too tacky. I'd say a suspension change will be on the cards as i get the knocking on lights at hills pulling off and the last rear left tyre wore unevenly so maybe its all connected. what sorta dolla do you guys think it would cost at the garage? and maybe a low cost option is to find some plank who's written off a nice scoobie on the front end and buy the rear suspension as a donor?? are their any decent specialist scoobie breakers or scap yards about for suspension? thanks again
  20. My scoobie's a uk300 does anyone know which suspension that would be? I believe its been on there since 2001 and the rear creaks sometimes when pulling off etc during slow driving and the front makes a bit of a wooshy noise going over speed bumbs at a normal 10mph but its fine at about 3mph. however it drives lovely, but I don't know if it would need replacing or servicing asap for an improved ride, i see members scooby222 saying annual replacements are on the cards, sounds crazy guys? so member scooby222 you some kind of scoobie master as i noticed on one of your posts you were boasting how hard you drive your steed?
  21. Hey fellow scoobians my name is Jam and I really want to know what tyre pressures I should be running on my UK300 it's on 18" OZ Prodrive wheels and middle market Avon rubber. I've tried lower psi (around 25) and got loads of grip and control in corners but the side walls looked like they would wear excessively due to the slight bulge caused by the low pressure, conversely i've tried higher psi (around 32+) this appears to give less grip on harsh cornering but may have improved mpg/tyre wear? maybe. Anyway as you can see I dont really know what I'm talking about, I used to have a 206 and this loved 28psi rear and 32psi front, being front engine and drive so the increased pressure at the front increased response, wear and mpg and the rear lower pressure gave a great "let off over-steer" would a scoobie be different being 4x4 or does the front end require more psi to hold the weight of the engine? surely the rear diff/axle/petrol tank etc weigh in around the same as the engine? has anyone ever had their scoobie weighed in on each wheel to see the distribution percent? I drove the current legacy which apparently has 25% weight split on each wheel(and it was sweet). I know types of tyre give many different results so does pressure/brand make a big difference? Also wheels, I know bigger rims such as 18's give better high end speed and lower acceleration, so i was thinking of picking up some cheap subaru wheels of ebay as impreza and legacy wheels should fit, but I have got the Prodrive disc upgrade to 330mm so i can only drop to have 17"s so maybe a cheap set of track/testing purposes would work well? Anyways thanks for reading my post, i'm new on here and this is my 1st post so Howdy all. Jam
