I think it's down to the state of the roads! I have had 2 screens in damaged by stones recently on my work car from potholes on the road thrown up by other vehicles.
-
Yes, I am here and just read this. I'm not one to start a slanging match so just want to say the car is here for anyone to inspect and make their own decision. It is 13 years old and not perfect, but damn good. It has been my pride and joy for the last year and a half. I have however, had the car checked over by 2 subaru mechanics as I wished to prove to myself the engine was sound. In the small clear bottle with yellow cap next to the battery there is a greeny white residue under the cap. Both technicians who saw this alleviated any concerns over head gasket failure by pointing out that it is in fact crystallised anti-freeze(subaru anti-freeze is bright green). It is common amongst cars which are used seldomly and caused by evaporated coolant/moisture condensing in this small overflow bottle. The car uses absolutely no water. Piston slap could not be detected by either inspection(both independent of each other) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I admit I was unable to run the gentleman back to Glasgow Airport (45mins) and perhaps being decamped at an unfamiliar train station is not a great end to a long day. I am a Subaru enthusiast and feel that is incumbent that forums like this are used to share information. Everyone's standards and expectations vary, my car has nothing to hide and if it doesn't sell I will keep it as I enjoy being part of the subaru community. Many thanks

It's Me! Just not getting a chance to use the car and its a waste having it under a cover in the garage!

Yes, thats the bloke. His name is Malcolm Stirling

If your struggling I know a subaru mechanic in Kilmarnock who does jobs from home in the evening and weekends. Used him a few times and always very knowledgeable

Need A New Car - Urgently! - Deposit Paid
PAUL-KILLIE replied to rallyfever's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi Been reading your thread and have been through exactly the same trying to find a car. Eventually decided to hand pick a car from Japan. Had it under a blanket in the garage for too long now, was intending doing the concourse thing but never got round to it... Ive been considering selling my car for the right offer, heres the details, drop me a pm if you need more info or pictures. 97 V3 STI 4 door White GENUINE 31000kms, never converted to mph. (19000 miles) Spare wheel etc never touched. No car park dings at all No underseal(underfloor polished white) No corrosion at all I have fitted a magnex 3 inch round exhaust and a decat. New Speedline ST2s in gold with new pirelli P Zero Corsas All parts to return to standard available. Standard wheels available with original matching tyres. Completely immaculate except from literally 3 or 4 stone chips. It is MOT'd and taxed Some Japanese history and all import docs. It is never and has never been driven in the rain to my knowledge. Imported and registered by myself Jan 09 Took me months to find and I think its a waste that I never use it, time someone else got the benefit of it! -
May be worth going down the route of uprated flywheel and clutch. If the flywheel is worn it could mean that your car will keep eating clutches! If your looking for someone to fit it for you in the Kilmarnock area drop me a pm! Know a guy whos pretty handy with imprezas!

HI, I recommend SMART CAR in Kilmarnock. They have been in business for nearly 20 years and I can't fault them. They regularly valet porsches/Ferraris etc and the owner is a classic car enthusiast and also a perfectionist! They use Auto Glym products. They are located on Southook Road in Kilmarnock (off Western Road, near Bonnyton). The number is 01563 574070. Its usually about £45-£60 for a full valet depending on how dirty the car is. This included engine bay, interior and exterior. Mini valets are about £25(interior hoovered, not shampooed)

You might be lucky and only need to replace the shells and a conrod or two. Although, I would recommend a new crank rather than a regrind, up to you though. I know a guy in Kilmarnock who does impreza rebuilds from home in his spare time, He comes pretty highly regarded and isn't hard to pay as its more of a hobby to him. Give me a shout if you want contact details. You might have seen his yellow four door or white 2 door impreza with carbon front end at Knockhill. I reckon you could be back on the road for less than £1500

They are a bit awkward the first time. You'll need a 10mm socket and spanner, a 12mm socket and spanner, plug key and the hands of a geisha girl!!! Take the washer fluid bottle and airbox out to give you room. If your car has coil packs I think its a 12mm bolt holds them in. If your car has a single coil on top of the manifold, the HT leads simply pull off. A 4 inch extension is about right to get a ratchet onto and remove the plug. Do want at a time so you dont end up putting wrong lead/coil pack on wrong cylinder. Cheers

Guy in Kilmarnock selling gearbox/diff/shafts/dccd from an sti RA. Spotted it on ebay! £500 buy it now.

I run 2 separate policies, quotes for a multi-car deal were more expensive Im 27, 3 points 2007 Skoda Octavia VRS diesel estate £400 fully comp 25000 miles a year 8 years no claims- SWIFTCOVER 1999 Impreza turbo UK £500 fully comp 3000 miles a year - Bell direct Used to have a Celica GT4 as a second car and Adrian Flux allowed me a discount for having a lot of no claims discount on another car. The impreza is a second car and due to the low mileage I do in it I dont think its too costly to have 2 cars(except when I start buying go faster bits!)

How To Tell If Its An Sti Block Or Wrx? Engine Codes
PAUL-KILLIE replied to jimmyGforce's topic in Scottish Scoobies
If the block is semi-closed it has the little tags linking the bore to the outer wall of the block(as shown above). Hope this helps! -
Bummer! Definitely won't show up on the car's HPI record though, this only happens if the car has been in a total loss claim! As long as it is repaired well no one will ever know!
