Followed one (maybe this one) out of North Berwick. Acceleration, noise and smell of burned fuel awesome. Have you got the in flight refuel hose fitted yet? Colleague down south has one. Says if you really step on it MPG changes to GPM! Love my STI, but it couldn't live with this. Enjoy.

How Much Do You Wash Your Car And How Far Do You Go
l137sws replied to scoobywho's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Suspect I am going to get some abuse but..... ...I bought a new WRX STI at the end of September last year..... ....and washed it for the first time last week after 8000 miles. -
Had 2 hatches. Both 18" rims. P-Zero Rosso's for me.

Wouldn't worry about road tax. Higher band = 1 tank of fuel. By next year it will equate to half a tank the way prices keep going up.

Scottish Scoobies Ownership Poll - Newage and Classics

Current MY 10 WRX STI hatch To be replaced with MY12 WRX STI saloon in 10 days. This months promotion too good to ignore. -
Was booked to do the Seat Leon experience but used my own STI hatch. Got much more out of it as it gave me a feel for what the car can do. Instructor, Sasha Brunton, drove a couple of laps in car to understand it before lesson started. Learned about balancing car rather than playing with centre diff, still managed to get traction control warning. 34 miles or so at an indicated average of 8.7mpg. New set of brake pads at the service the following week to replaced cracked and glazed ones that didn't survive. Brakes will be your limitation if you use your own car, pedal goes soft very quickly.

On my second hatch. Love them.

The Edinburgh to Moffat road is wonderful. Has appeared on Evo a couple of times. Think they had a blast in an Alfa 156 GTA.

Subaru UK statement on Engine Failure discussions
l137sws replied to wrxmania's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I bought a MY2008 STI in August 2008. About 6 weeks later, I received a letter from AF Noble asking me to bring the car in to have an engine management patch applied. This was followed up with a phone call. Ran the car to 47k miles without a problem and have traded in for one of the last available MY10, the MY11 being too expensive. Set the Rev warning to 6200, to avoid over revving. Not sure why you would want to redline anyway, power is dropping off just past 6000 RPM. Run on Shell V-Power 98% of the time, super unleaded otherwise. Top up with oil given to me between services. This was my 5th trouble free Subaru. All have sown about 2,000 miles a month. I'm sure the 6th will be just as reliable. -
New White Sti Saloon @ Ian Grieve Subaru Falkirk - Pics

I like the saloon. It's just that Subaru have priced it out of reach Stretched to £27k for my '08 STI. Looks like I am starting at nearly £20k transfer pirce this time round. -

Gav, Is the £33k version all that will be available? Will there be one with the same mechanicals and fewer toys? -

My 2008 STI has 45k miles on it and has run perfectly. Had an engine management patch applied over 2 years ago. Would have another hatch or saloon. Depends on pricing. Concerned I am going to have to make the same leap I did when I traded my WRX for the STI just to get the latest. BTW, Japan devalued the Yen earlier this week. Wonder if prices may come down in the new year. -

Joking aside, will there be a lesser spec? Made the price jump from WRX to STI last time. Wasn't expecting to have to do it again to stay with an STI :-( Styling was never Subaru's strong point. If you want something pretty, buy and Alfa Romeo. -

Gotta say, I prefer without the spoiler. Was one of the things I didn't like about the old STI and one of the reasons I like my STI hatch. If £32,995 is the price, it is too much for me. If there is one with fewer toys at under £30k, that is a different story. -
Had a Tracker on 4 WRX's. Tracker got more and more difficult to do business with. Glad my STI has a Metsat. Better by far.

Had an 08 STI for 15 months now after 4 x WRX's. Would recommend to anyone. Faster, more confortable that previous model. Have 18" Prodrive alloys. There was a recall last year for engine issue. You had to be hitting rev limiter frequently for it to be an issue. Insurance cheaper. Fuel economy better than WRX it replaced. Get 27-28mpg on motorway AND I run Sport # always.
-
Another convert. You won't regret it. Had a blue one on 18" wheels for a year now. "Only" 300bhp though. More space, more comfortable, faster, better fuel economy and cheaper insurance the the 56 WRX it replaced.
-
Engine issue was sorted with a patch to the ECU. Dealer should have contacted you - mine did?

I have a Blue '08 STI with 18" wheels. Can't recommend it enough. When cruising on motorway in busy traffic, I use SI drive and get better fuel consumption than the WRX I had previously. On an open road, change to Sport # and it is ballistic. Best of both worlds. People who don't know Subaru quite like styling. Looks like the various discussion boards are the only people with a downer on the shape. Love it myself. A wolf in sheeps clothing. No boot spoiler or gold wheels to attact attention.

I know I may be leading with my chin (or perhaps a white stick), but here goes. Having had 3 x WRX (blob & hawk eyes) I now have an '08 STI. Loving it. Get over the looks and get one. Not as hard suspension as old STI, but very easy to live with. Oh, any it has better fuel comsumption than 2.5 WRX I traded in :-) Check out Performance Car & EVO. They both seem to like their long term STI's.
