About WRX04

  1. Hi, Has anyone got instructions for wiring a set of driving lamps into a blobeye? I got my driving lamps wired up to replace the foglights and as done on previous cars took my switch wire from the wire on the main beam to the relay. One of the main beam wires puts driving lamps on with dipped and main beam, the other one puts driving lamps on with dipped but they go off when on full beam. Where else can I tap into or is there another way I need to do this? Cheers.
  2. The original top mounts are rubber but the bc's are just metal. Do I need to do anything before fitting or is it right enough metal to metal? (Top mount to susp strut) ? Cheers

  4. Folks, getting my coilovers fitted on thurs, want the height dropped no more than about 10-15mm from the std height its at just now. Will be taking to hypertech in the next few weeks to get the geometry setup but don't want to have to adjust the height between times. How much do the BCs normally settle once fitted? Is it a cm, an inch or more? Cheers
  5. My n/s/r did much the same a few months back, albeit it wasn't smoking, just getting warm/hot. I bought a seal kit from Subaru, can't remember the exact price but remember thinking they were reasonable (think sub £20), the pack actually had enough seals/rings in it to do both rears so I've got spares for the other side. Not sure if the front ones are the same hence enough for 4 in the pack? My local garage stuck them on and cleaned up the caliper/pistons, it's been perfect ever since. The garage had actually sourced a set of seals from the factor they use incase it was going to be cheaper but the seals were about 1/3 thinner than the OEM ones so he went with them. I've found Subaru themselves are sometimes reasonably priced for some things, albeit crazy price for others
  6. The folks that think you're a maniac on the roads when they find out you drive a Scooby. The same ones who flash you and shake the coffee beans at you even though they've been doing 50 for miles and you've overtaken on a clear stretch of road without cutting them up or bothering them in any way. On this - the ones who are coming the other way but are half a mile up the road when you're overtaking and feel the need to flash the lights at you even though you're back onto your own side with a 1/4 mile to spare! People that refuse to overtake and cause huge queues of folks, none of which will overtake. People that are on the roads at 7am (presumably heading to work) but sit at 40. Friday was not a good day.
  7. What's the general concensus on the new hatch STi's? I've not really seen many comparisons from folks who have owned Blob/Hawk STi's then moved to the hatch. Have driven a couple and found them to be a better all round proposition to the saloons in terms of practicality, comfort and refinement. They were std cars I drove so didn't have much of a note, the test routes were really short so didn't get a chance to punt them thru twisties much. Left me thinking it would be better than mine for covering distance in but might have lost a bit of the rawness of some of the older scoobies for when you want to have a blast. Anyone got any views on handling and performance? Cheers.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions gents. Will give the shocks a service and see how that's goes then fallback to coilovers if they're properly goosed!
  9. As per: http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=139874 I'm having problems with my rear susp, does anyone know of any local reasonable priced suppliers in the North East (ie not the £700 T&C are quoting) Cheers. Paul
  10. Does anyone know where i'd be able to source a driving lamp conversion kit for a Blob Eye? Prodrive used to do them for the classic for reasonable money but are looking for £350 for the same for the bug/blob. Cheers
  11. Thanks for the response, guess it just confirms what I thought it would be. 1 question remains - do you normally get away with just replacing the shocks or do you always need to do the strut tops as well? Cheers.
  12. Yeah, i'd spoken to a few folk before I bought the car that said they eat through the rear shocks. Last service I got advised that they'd need replaced soon and they quoted me for 2 rear strut assemblies?? Think it was something like £800. As there wasn't any noise I left it but i'm going to need to do something now..... Anyone know what it costs to replace the rear shocks with OEM parts? I'd consider going for an aftermarket shocker but would rather not replace all 4 if i don't have to and i'd prefer to do all 4 if I was moving away from std.
  13. Just developed a knock from the rear left (54 Blob Saloon). Not noticable at speed but it sounds like the shocker banging about when you're at town speeds. Thought it was maybe an unseated spring but had a look and everything looks ok. Got a mate to push the inside of the boot down and it's coming from the top of the rear strut. Any ideas? Cheers.
  14. Looks good, fog lights make a massive difference, a pet hate with the new one. Out of interest how do you rate in next to your 53plate? Performance, handling etc. Cheers.
  15. Hi, I've only recently bought my Scooby but it's nearing time for an oil change. The local dealer is telling me Fully Synth 5w40, my understanding of the owners manual is 5w30. Can anyone give some direction on this? Is there any favoured oils ? Cheers.
