  2. many thanks for the link Lee ordered a set
  3. the advice you have had is all sound. Tootle about and change gear sensibly and you will be 25mpg+ put the hammer down and you will be somewhere around 10. The novelty will not where off, i am on my second and i cant imagine owning another car. The "Grin Factor" is immeasurable and as has already been said, just cannot be underestimated or valued in monetary terms. The reliability in an unmodified regularly serviced car is second to none. If you are wary of the costs it would be better to spend 5 grandish on a car you can fall in love with and make sure it is the right fit for you. This moment in time is most definitely a buyers market (i mean elsewhere on these forums you can buy a multi award winning 03 show car for the money you are talking!) so shop around. I know this is a biased target audience you are asking the questions from but even a general question anywhere as to "what is the best, most reliable, fastest sub 20 grand performance car" would still see you back here.
  4. ahh this is a tough one for me to be honest. Ed asked me this when i rocked up to the meet in march, "why did you buy a subaru?" he eventually asked me. I suspect my answer was something less than he was expecting and it wasnt what i was trying to articulate. i mean, who wouldnt want a rally car (almost) that you can drive every day? who wouldnt want a car that makes you smile every time you get into it? i am now on my second scoob, previously i had a bugeye wagon and it was fast, when i traded it in nearly 8 weeks ago (wipes away a tear of nostalgia) the subaru dealer took it for a test drive and came back saying, "i forgot it was that quick, funny how some are quicker than others". what can i say but, i am a speed freak but its not the total speed its the fun of getting there. i mean in a scoob you can have as much fun getting up to 40 and staying there because of the speed limit than you could get all day in another car. every set of lights, every junction, every roundabout and you dont even have to be close to red lining it and then settle at the speed limit to have that little glow inside and the joy etched on your face. so what was it that made me buy one? well i'm afraid our dear departed friend Mr McRae is at fault watching him do his stuff with utter awe and amazement that someone could go that fast in those places and then immersing me in the driving games.
  5. yer i love mine, i steered away from the black and got a WR Blue. Everyone who has seen it says they like it and it gets plenty of people coming up to give it a look over. I must say i disliked the rear lights as soon as i saw them but they are growing on me so i'm keeping them as is for now. Any yes they do chip as badly as any other scooby so its not all change
  6. Bugger! i was all interested then i read there were no back stage passes and Sarah Harding "Sex Slave" vouchers. Looks like its back to perving photo's
  7. bought my ticket today, should be at Morrisons.
  8. this is all true although in my case i appear to attract Clio's like i'm Julius Caesar. Generally speaking 99.999999% of the time i obey speedlimits, i have been driving over 25 years and have never had any points on my licence, *desperately touches the biggest bit of wood i can find*. Living outside of a big city means there's plenty of B road action to keep the right foot fit. If i get some fool trying to bait me i'm more than ever going to stick to any limit. Its my revenge! Having said this i find that the number of people coming up to have a look at the car more than makes up for the other inconveniences.
  9. i'm sure this gate will stop a 90mph rally car
  10. "I bet this will be the one to make the T-Shirt burst"
  11. He arrived in a blaze of glory in his STi and then disappeared off the radar! I would like to firstly offer my sincerest apologies to SP, i got your PM about the Castle Combe event but i was juggling things like buggery to try and get there and i wasnt right sure i could make it right up until the Friday night when it became a non-goer. I didnt reply cos it was too late by then and ive been feeling guilty ever since. I can imagine what it takes to get things organised and a tit who wont commit (what a rhyme!) is a royal pain. As an explanation and by way of an apology here is what is going on in my life... I work as a Manager for agency workers and this means usually my 'phone starts most mornings about 6am and if my last one is 9pm its a good day. My Father is in hospital, he has been since last October having had his leg removed through an MRSA infection from a previous hospital visit and then having had C-Diff and various other infections. My mother has had 2 strokes in the last year. So i had to sell my house (oh well the upside is the disposable cash for the car) and move back home (if its still home after not living there for 25 years plus!) to make sure my 80 year old mother doesnt get into too much mischief and then take her to the hospital every night to visit dad. The Castle Combe event occurred in the midst of hospitals visits and a new GF demanding a trip to Weymouth and im afraid the exchange of intimacy on the south coast won! So the upshot is, if every day had 30 hours things might be a bit more predictable. I would really appreciate it if you wouldnt write me off and my best endeavours will be made to attend every event i feasibly can. Regards and thanks for reading this drivel.
