  1. Great work, Frank - the rain will be deflecting six inches away from the paintwork now!

Where can I get hold of some of that blue masking tape, BTW?

And what's the "two bucket method"? I could say that I use a similar method during the summer, i.e. "one bucketfull for the bodywork and one for the wheels"... but I'm guessing that you're referring to something altogether more sophisticated...?

PaulC555 supplies me with the tape and all my 3M products, including the polishing pads used on Bobby's car

Here's a guide to washing your car "safely" Washing Process

  2. Car arrived at the unit at around 11am and I got straight to work,

The car was degreased with APC and then rinsed, front end was also treated with foaming bug remover stuff.

Started with the wheels, cleaned inside and out then washed the car using the 2 bucket method.

Car was dried with drying towel and Megs Last Touch

All plastics, rubbers and grills were taped up with 3M blue tape and the car was ready for machine polishing

Tried with Menzerna Final Finish but the scratches and swirls just laughed at this, so up'd it to Menernza Intensive Polish for a little more cut, which did the trick, then a final pass with Final Finish to add gloss and remove any remaining holograms.

The paint was then wiped down using Z6 to remove polishing oils and coats of Gloss It Finish, Z6, Gloss It Concorso, Z6 and finally Z8 were applied.

The wheels were polished with Z5 then a coat of JetSeal was applied for extra protection. Tyres were treated with Blackfire Tyre gel.

Metal grills were polished with CG Metal Shine

The car was finished at around 8pm.

  3. Great job mate. What pads/polish you using? I find Lake Country Pads/Menzerna Polish with the Megs G220 a good combo.

I've always used a rotary from day one but I tried the G220 but found it a bit to slow too use for paint correction (compared to rotary)....??

    Well done Strike ;)

Now that you have the detailing bug mate my advice is to hide your wallet, cut up your credit card and don't go on to www.detailingworld.co.uk Detailing is like a Coke habit only more expensive :)

Tell me about it, I have a dangerously huge collection of products and would hate to count of the cost....must be well into the thousands lol

  4. Met the owner of this car at Hypertechs Horse Power Heroes event the other week, he asked how I keep my car so clean so I told him and ended up with the job of detailing this beast!

No before or during pics, was flat out on this one......took a combined 21hours to finish

Again PaulC555 supplied the 3M products used for the polishing stages on this

  5. It would be very nice :P WITHOUT the carbon bonnet B)

I just dont get the carbon bonnet thing I'm afraid :D to reduce weight etc... then aye but, I'd be painting it white again :P:rolleyes:

No much point either on the STi model due to the aluminum bonnet being (in most causes) lighter than a replacement carbon fibre one

  6. Whats "Oh Dear" meant to mean Frankie boy????? You just have no taste fella - you know I do like something a tad different and could not run entirely with the pack. Only wish is now that the dosh comes through quick and it's still for sale - unles there is something a smidge more interesting when that is about to happen.

    Cheers

    Gary

Just not a fan :P . Its a bit mental and just doesn't seem right (White Scoob....... lowered, MO's and front lip FTW :D )

However I really like John's scoob and think he's nuts for wanting to sell it B)

  7. good job guys but please do tell me more bout the mini

The mini belongs to a friend, its had a fair bit of work done (body and interior) but engine is just a 1.3

Surprised you never asked about the reflection of the classic with the fmic lol

  8. Found blue tooth on my laptop lol

This was only an external paint work detail and IMHO the pics really don't show how good the car looked in the flesh (Phone camera is rubbish)

Big Thanks to PaulC555 for the 3M cleaning products used on the scoob, really really good stuff!!

  9. 2 done at the unit (mine and a blobeye), both 6 speeds and both times we took the engine out. Taking the engine out ain't that bad on the impreza's......thankfully lol

As for the clutch, i can recommend the Helix Organic clutch, lasted well in my car (15,000 miles) and still not slipping even with the increased torque

  10. Thanks for that, Frank :icon_salut:

Are they next door to Muirhall Motors? Pal of mine used to work there as a mechanic, and I used to go there myself for repairs and MOTs.

Sounds like they did a fine job on your car. Being a full respray though, I don't suppose colour-matching would have been an issue?

    Cheers.

Their colour matching is spot on too mate, seen a lot of cars from their getting repair work and you'd never know that they'd been damaged in the first place.

They are not cheap as I previously said but Garry is never happy until it's perfect.

And yes its next to Muirhall Motors :occasion14:
