  1. What is the 'actual' torque split on the Impreza's in standard form? from what ive read on the net there are different splits across the ages but there doesnt seem much consistency from site to site There have been various sites that have shown 'some' consistency, info showing as: 2.0 was 35/65 front to rear 2.5 was 41/59 " new styled hatchback is 50/50 Just curious as mine feels like it is giving more power to the rear
  2. cheers for the replies, ive had it on a code reader and is coming up as a mulitple missfire code on all 4 cylinders, but its non-present so cant do a data check, reset the fault memory an hasnt come back on. Ive had a Subaru techie look at the codes, he thinks its a neutral gear selection switch - have to wait and see if it comes back on
  3. Ive tried running a search on this and not been able to find anything, Wondered if anyone else had this problem before: Im running a UK spec WRX and noticed that whenever i boost the car in fourth gear, at around 5krpm the CEL flashes about half a dozen times and then goes out (this has only happened 3 times in the past with NFF whenever checked out) only this time the light has stayed on and stays on when the car is restarted. Car is running fine on idle, overrun etc. whenever i boost it to about 5krpm in 1st to 3rd the car shows no symptoms but again with the light on the CEL flashes at 5k in fourth! I know its difficult to diagnose a problem over the net but it seems to be too specific! Any help appreciated
  4. Its not a Turbo 2000, the UK spec imprezas dont have rear wipers, so its good chance its a WRX or STI TBH looking at the pics it looks like a WRX - im pretty sure the STI's have clear rear light lenses and the STI's i believe have a green STI sticker on the back? The trouble with the older Imprezas is that its soooo hard to differentiate between them that many people advertise them as STI's even though there not! not that there being dishonest its becuase they think it is! People ask me if mines an STI all the time!
  5. Sorry for the lateness on the reply , i know the company! Living in leeds i made a visit to them one day - they had a cracking selection of Scoobs in stock (when i made my visit, i feel in love with a Black classic WRX ) its family owned and the guy who runs it only deals in fresh imports. He brings them over and adds new kits, wheels etc - i personally find his stock a little overpriced but i suppose with the crap thats flooding the market at the mo it will prob be worth it! Ive known people who have bought from them, not had problems - only negative is he offers little or no warranty/cover
  6. technically extended warranties are insurance i work in aftersales at a major dealership network and unless you get a manufacturer backed warranty i.e. Network Q there not worth the trouble! check the small print on an extended warranty it will say 'covers against sudden mechanical failure' so things like turbos bearings going or radiators corroding aint covered. Check with a local Subaru garage aftersales dept for any covers they might do
  7. Dunno about the rest of the UK, but up in Yorkshire we have had almost a week of snow covered roads and tempretures reaching -9c. In the past i've been more than impressed with the vehicles handling when it all gets slippery, even to a point of boasting! but recently the car has been a bit naughty! there have been a couple of occasions were the back end has slid very lightly while cornering and it also has a habit of locking up the wheels when approaching a junction at crawling speeds, with the very lightest of braking force - tonight being the worst when it wouldnt stop coming down a hill towards a junction, it eventually stopped on the wrong side of the road at a 45 degree angle! I used to look forward to snow so that i could test the cars capability in the snow, now i just want it to **** off so i can get back to enjoying driving anyone else have any horror moments?
  8. An Impreza is in a different league to a Mondeo ST thats why your quoted more!! the insurance groups of 1-20 are a load of b******s - Insurance groups use a rating upto 100 (an impreza is group 20, so is a Gallardo but i bet the Lambo is gonna be at least a tad higher to insure ) am slightly alarmed at the way you have pointed out that you would 'look at it with no insurance than drive something normal' I pay my insurance! due respect but if you cant afford to run something, maybe look at something cheaper!
  9. 30 days/1000 miles (whichever is sooner) if bought from motor trade dealer
  10. Dunno if this post has ended but thought i'd give my 2 cents I've fitted an adjustable TurboSmart to mine. cracking piece of kit and slots right into the price range between Forge and HKS - well worth a look!
  11. I live about 10 miles from this garage. Ive never actually been to them but they haven't got the best reputation around here. Put it simply ive been told by many they sell a lot fruits, mainly of the citrus variety!
  12. Ive got a spare WRsport Prodrive backbox and centerpipe/with cat for a newage Impreza WRX. On subaru website its shown as retail at £300 just for the backbox. As i want to flog it on Ebay with the centerpipe - just wondering how much are they worth 2nd hand? Cheers.
  13. aye its standard ruddy ugly WRX headlights, dazzle other road users? i wouldnt have thought fitting upgraded bulb kit would change projection of beam?
  14. sorry chaps cant locate my handbook, on the standard uk spec headlight, is it the H1 or H4 bulbs?
  15. Hello hoping someone can help me! I've Been Looking at HID (6k-8k) kits for the bugeye impreza, just been looking online and there looks to be loads of 'grey' DIY kits, wondered if anyone has used any particular brand of kit or knows of someone in the north that can do quality conversions at a reasonable price? Cheers for any help
  16. whaaat?! anyone aged at 17 looking for their first car will be lucky if they have an insurance quote under £1000 for a 1.0 3 cylinder with about 60bhp on TPFT! as soon as someone aged 17 says the letters G, T, or S in the car model sends the premuim skyrocketing
  17. aye id reccomend a pro fitter, a lot of people fit their own - i did this on my old celica and did a pretty good job but it took me 4 hours to do and a lot of swearing! I used a pro and they fitted a double strength film that strengthens the window against impacts and breakins so on impact the glass doesnt shatter
  18. If you go under your dads name your dad takes all the risks and you dont reap the benefits i.e. if you smash the car, your dad loses his no claims and if you stay under the insurance for 2/3 years without a smash you wont have any NCB as its not your insurance im sorry mate but you will struggle to run it financially with the high running costs and insurance, im guessing you will get a quote somewhere in the region of around £10 grand (educated guess as a lad i know tried to insure an MX5 and he was quoted £8k) you wont be able to drive it fast as your new liscence with its 6 points will be at great risk, i agree with the above get yourself a small runabout and learn to drive first
  19. Clutch sticking in could be the slave cylinder, but with the brake pedal also sticking could be the pedal box - have a butchers to make sure there isnt a big crack in it if you have car mats fitted check them too! you'd be suprised
  20. pffft! id never pay £3k for an insurance premuim not unless it was a Zonda or a Koniegsegg, im 26 and im paying about £650 with Direct Line
  21. i thought the main difference between sti and wrx engine was the Forged pistons in the sti to the cast in the wrx?!
