  1. Is that all you have spent

Just shows how it all adds up though. I am a bit surprised you are using mobil one at £38 given that you can get proper synthetic oils such as Millers CFS 10/40and Motul 300v. The motul is a bit more but the millers is not much more than you are paying for the Motul semi-synthetic. Alyn at ASP does millers and motul oils at good prices :(

I personally wouldnt use Mobil 1 even in the road car it isnt worth the money as its not a true synthetic oil.

  2. I must admit it is probably obvious to everyone that the remark was made tongue in cheek and was meant to add a little humour to the thread but for Jim finding perished fuel lines so soon after watching a car he had spent so much of his energy on go up in flames must have brought horrific memories of the event straight back. Nice to see a genuine apology though :(

  3. Graeme how much did the STI springs lower the front and back :D Got some KYB's and prodrive springs to go on the road car just not got round to it. The white shed keeps causing me issues every time I plan to fit them :)

  4. Jim let me know if you are going to replace the fuel lines with braided lines. I just replaced some of the hose that I got from Pirtek coz it was crap and the new stuff is pretty good and cheap if you want the link let me know. Glad you found this as that looks horrific.

  5. I am using performance friction pads on my race RA with Brembo's. These were recommended by Alyn at AS Performance and after Kames when I used them for the first time in anger I have to say I am impressed. Alyn was doing a group buy on them recently but I dont know if this is still going he does give an SIDC discount though :D

  6. The air will take the path of least resistance, the top panel will re-direct a small amount of air that may otherwise have escaped but as John says the losses around the sides and bottome make it almost worthless on its own other than as a cosmetic item :D

  7. Donald

The engine is in and the intention was to do a full season of sprints but things have not gone smoothly and I have spent over 6 months getting to where I am now, which is one outing at Kames! I had a number of issues and problems with the build which meant I missed event after event. The car is now running well, although not as advanced as I had hoped, but hopefully I now have a solid base to develop it for next year. The aim for the rest of the season is to tweek the suspension and see how much time I can take off last years times as well as getting some seat time in.

Look forward to a natter at Golspie :driving:

  8. Come on now you lot. Why is it that a thread like this turns into a bitchfest?

No I don't think I'm 'the daddy' in A3 class. Far from it, but for those who think they can do better, we should slug it out on the track - not on a public forum. I welcome you all into the class at any event.

I'm competing for the Road Car Title this year, not the class win. The fact that there's no other machinery entered in A3 that comes close isn't my fault. To win the Road Car title involves regularly beating the other quick road cars such as Craig Nicol, Les Mutch & Trevor so I will drive the socks off the Evo to achieve my goal. Believe me, this isn't as easy as you may think. There's a LOT of talented drivers out there on the hills and sprints and a lot of very quick cars, all of whom I have the utmost respect for.

This is my first look into SIDC- pointed here from a link on my thread on MLR. It was very pleasing to read that some of you have respect for me but I'm from 'the other side' so I have no wish to get involved in anything other than friendly banter. We're all into motorsport so we should all be friends. Don't make the 'divide' between Subaru owners and Evo owners bigger than it already seems to be!

    Donald

How are things, glad to see the car starting to get to the stage you were hoping for last year and looking forward to hopefully meeting up at Golspie and/or Boyndie.

This thread seems to have been turned into an internal SIDC bitching session as opposed to the original intention which was to point out how well you were doing this year, and how the car looks to be coming together nicely. At the end of the day, as you point out, it doesnt really matter who else is entered as you have to put in some pretty impressive times to pick up good points in A3 as compared to someother classes. So the fact that you are in the running proves how well both you and the car are doing. This is good to see as it is often forgotten just how much time and effort it takes to produce a road car capable of the level of performance you are currently at as well as the ability required to drive such a car :driving:

  9. Well this is news to me as I didnt realise I had any "good mates" at EACC, but at least you admit to "stirring it" so maybe the root of the bitchiness you speak about is becoming more obvious.

I have ben to one event this season so I am also at a loss to understand what you are talking about, but if someone has an issue with me then they know where to contact me !!!!

  10. ( Dunc, yes same class, though my only outing this year up here was in B3 at Kames, that was to stay out of the way of Arch, Jim and Jac so they could fight it out, )

john its nice to see you move up to b3 to give arch and jac a chance but i see no mention of myself in above post john , seeing i am only 1.9 points behind jac in second place in A3 useing a standard impreza road car with half the horse power you guys have and on pishy 205-16 £30 road tyres as well,

i myself thinks it does not really make sense spending tens of thousand of pounds to run in the road class as you can have as much fun spending only a few grand to win a plastic trophy , just look at a2 with the fiestas or a9 with russel running his renault 5 in, these guys run cheap and have close races and still have a good banter at the meetings , A3 is getting to bitchy and like the secret service when someone asks for help ie- suspension settings etc

anyway back to the topic madmac has always been very helpfull when i have spoke to him and his driving is awesome a bit like yourself john so not much to choose between yourself and mac , hopefully mac will move up to b3 and we can see some records getting set or broken

    cheers Don

ps i think you lot take this internet posting to serious

    Don

From what i can see a lot of your posts are designed to be antagonistic or at least they certainly appear that way. I have seen little in the way of a "bitchy" atmoshere at events until very recently and certainly not when i go up north. I am unsure what my suspension settings have to do with this thread, or indeed yourself, given that it was Jac that asked the question. The fact that i chose not to say is my perogative, just as I would not ask any other person what certain aspects of their car are.

In relation to Donald's car I am looking forward to seeing it in action hopefully at Golspie or Boyndie. Like Donald says he has used other cars around him to push the development of his own car, I also have used Donald's car, John's car and several of the other Evo's from up north as the bench mark that i aspire to.

  11. Donald's the daddy in A3 no one can touch him :D

Quite possibly the stupidest thing I have seen posted on this forum B) Even Donald wouldnt agree with that, he is a very good driver with a very quick car but there are also other very good drivers with very quick cars around in A3.

  12. Arch ,what would you do with regards to re-drilling sti discs to suit a wrx aas in 114 to 100 pcd ? would you do it yourself ?

    Cheers kenny

There is no physical reason why you couldnt do it yourself, as long as their is plenty material between the 114 pcd holes, but you would have to be accurate. I have redrilled my rear diff as it had a six speed hole pattern which is slightly different from the 5 speed prop, but to to be honest I prob would sell the discs and buy new ones but think quite a few people have done this without any issues relating to weakening the disc

  13. Seems like you're now getting a little taste of well deserved success now Erchie !

I was @ Fintray today but only saw one Scooby ( Clark ?) - have you & John S. decided to give this one a miss ?

    Cheers

    Cal

    Cal

Nice to hear from you mate hope you are well. I have had a nightmare this year so far and Kames was my first event. Having said that my intention was to concentrate on the sprints this year. I did enjoy fintry lst year and hope to do a full season of hills and sprints next year

  14. Hi Arch ,juts back from T.M.Smith engineers got some discs skimmed £20 for one disc which i thought was good ,i got them to check the thread pitch on the dealer bolts an it turns out that they are M12x1.5mm pitch so the ones from AS Performance are wrong B) will phone them on monday,so in future i will take a leaf out of your book and find out the bolt size and pitch and see if i can get them from the link you posted

    Cheers Kenny

Kenny that is really unlike Alyn at ASP to be fair.

Everyone should ahve a set of metric and imperial thread gauges for just this sort of scenario

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/METRIC-THREAD-PITCH-...id=p3286.c0.m14

  15. Kenny my "fixation" comment was in response to some of the comments which suggest that only a dealer can provide bolts of an adequate spec. I can see why you got fed up. I must admit it sounds strange that they are a different thread pitch than normal

  16. nice to finally see your car in action last weekend arch, your times were consistently getting better(apart from the last run)so more to come.well done

i'll hopefully be out to play next year, not sure in what class yet though

Thanks I did deliberately go out to take it easy early on to make sure everything was as it should with the car, thats why I basically drove round the first practice on Sat and gradually cranked it up over the weekend. The time on the last run on Sun was slightly slower than the first run but that was down to me making errors that are purely due to not having any seat time at all up to this weekend. That said the car can go faster in its current set up, I have checked my times against last years and they are faster both ways but that is to be expected. It would be good to see more cars out next year as more competion for everyone forces everyones times down.

I found it hard to get motivated at Kames last year as it was often just me and John and there was no way i could get near his times at Kames and in fact I dropped most of my Kames scores last year. Hopefully next year should see me with a car that can compete with those times B)
