  1. Well thought it was time i updated the thread.

The first event of the season was held on Sun 11th April at Kames and was the first round of the Scottish Sprint Championship and was hosted by The Scottish Sporting Car Club. There was also a club sprint run on the 10th April by East Ayrshire CC.

Despite being away from home a lot I managed, just, to get the car ready and the Neetronics wired up and mounted. I did not have time to test it or set it up which wasnt the best scenrio. I didnt have time on the sat to play with it much as I hadnt even read the instructions other than the wiring diagram so I ran the car all day with the diff fully open. I must admit it did feel good being back in the car after a long cold winter in the garage where I often questioned what the hell I was doing, especially one night when things were not going well and I went to have a drink of orange that I had poured earlier in the night, only to find it partially frozen ;)

The car ran really well on the Sat with no real issues at all, I ran the car on the low boost setting with the rev limiter initially set to 6K and increased to 6.8K as the day progressed. I also had the added problem of having brand new tyres on the car which I didnt even have time to scrub in  That however wasnt an issue for long as Kames is quite sore on tires especially the front left.

I managed to take the class win on Sat but to be honest there was nothing between myself, Jac and Donald. It was not really a competative sprint with most people out to check the bum dyno test a few things a tweek a few other things, it does seem strange but the single seater guys seem to like the tweeking a bit more thn us road car types

The weather on Sat was kind to us and Sun was no different if anything maybe even a little warmer. It made a change as Kames seems to have its own micro climate that can make Muirkirk seem more like the north pole than Scotland.

On Sun A3 was increased to myself and Jac in the Impreza's and Donald and Davie Coutts in their evo's. It was particullarly nice to see Davie travel south for the first time as we had enjoyed a few tussles up north over the last couple of years with honours prob in Davie's favour. It was a pity Jim kelly didnt ake it down with his Evo 5 as I am sure he would have pushed us all on.

I did play with the diff settings on the DCCD having had a chance to have a look at the instructions on sat night over a few  I didnt use the launch mode as i wasnt 100% sure how to set it up and didnt want to get it wrong for obvious reasons :o

Again the car went well with only a minor issue of the front passengers side tyre rubbing the wheel arch a little, a quick tweek and 2mm added to the front ride height sorted that.

    And Davie's evo

    DSC_0130.jpg

The day was uneventful unlike the track day a couple of weeks earlier. I managed to take the class win again on the Sun just ahead of Davie in his Evo, although with the mods he is planning very soon that may not last long. Jac had some real issues with his car which became more evident as the day went on and Donald pushed his Evo very close to myself and Davie Coutts.

It was a mixed bag of reactions to to the Sunday as I managed to pick up decent points but was unhappy with my performance. My times were slower than last year but i know i lost significant time on the straight by being to tentative after the previous weeks off. I will resolve that at the next event and hope to improve on the times which will be a must as everyone will up their game as the season goes on, all in all however, an enjoyable weekend.

After Kames it was a couple of days at home before heading out to Athens again  Well someone has to do it :o

Big thanks to Phil for the pics

The next challenge for me now is to get back from Athens in time for the sprint at Ingliston which at the minute is looking 50/50

  2. Bolts nuts etc from the dealer are ridiculous prices, I found this out 2 years a go I bought some turbo flange nuts and turbo studs. I cant remember the exact price but remember being stunned.

I have flange nuts and turbo studs etc etc all over my race car all from ebay and never had an issue. I cant remember the bolt size and thread pitch but i have thread gauges if you need to borrow them. If you can get onto them can you not just shear them off. If its the back two on the turbo you need to get the car up on axle stands and get to them from underneath. Sent you a PM

  3. Give Alyn at AS Performance a ring he should be able to sort you out quickly with a Samco kit .

    http://asperformance.com/contact/

I have used both the companies below and found the hoses every bit as good as samco and in the case of viper, much better . I have also pnoned viper one day and had the hoses the next day, their service and help is excellent.

  4. You could also strip them down and put new grease in your current ones. Not all subaru struts can be serviced so you'd have to check if yours can. If you do the job yourself your costs would be minimal as the grease isn't expensive.

    steve

Done that and it lasted a week before they started knocking again. The knocking is wear in the struts so greasing will only stop it temporarily.

  5. The problem with the BC units now is the dealer network has kicked in and the prices have now increased significantly to a level where they are no longer cheap. I am in the same scenario and need some new shocks or coilovers as my KYB Ulltras have started knocking and althouh KYB are a Uk company they will not refurb them so be warned avoid KYB like the plague as they are as bad if not worse than oem units. My KYB units have less than 15k on them and they are knackered.

  6. :rotfl: Some cracking pics there Phil much better than Steven's point and shoot

What a weekend at Kames the weather was superb and the racing was exciting. Good to get back into it and good to see so many cars out especially in our class. Must say how well Don peddled the EVO round some cracking times there ;) Unfortunately Jac had some issues with the car which definately affected his times, hopefully these will be sorted before Doune. Hats of to Davie Coutts who came down south for the first time, Davie is a superb driver and put some cracking times in with his EVO having never driven kames before but made it look like he was a regular. Just a pity Jim Kelly couldnt make it in his EVO to keep us all on our toes.

  7. possibly better than you think.

everyone knows the bold arch as your forever bumming your own trumpet and the subaru sites

    SIDC

    S.NET

    22B

    to name a few.

:headbang: You are of course 100% right when you have something to bum yourself up about then feel free to comment - any way peter think your thread has been hijacked sorry B)

  8. Two of my studs on my turbo sheared when the Cat came off for its MOT. So I need a new gasket set since the turbo has been removed, but im struggling to find any without going to Subaru dealers.

    Similar to this im after.

    eGay

Had alook on Scoobyworld, Camskill and Import Car parts.

    Ryan

If you need them in a hurry try Mark at Lateral or If you can wait till the 19th Alyn at AS Performance, both will have them.

  9. In a word...NO!

They have different mounting brackets I'm sure. Also the painted part doesnt come out on the Saloon. Saw your post of the car, welcome to the club.

The painted part does come off on the saloon, I changed my rear lights recently and changed over the white trim part from the old set

  10. If your alt is working it might be worth trying your battery on a trickle charge as if its very low your car prob wont charge it and just put enough power in for the car to run. Check the fluid too if ya can get in to the battery.

To be fair I had to have my battery replaced under warranty, 55 WRX, for the same issue not holding a charge.

  11. If you have access to a meter check the voltage before you try and start it, probably be sitting around 12v. Then check it again once its running to ensure you have around 14v, that will prove the alternator is working. If you have 14v while running your battery is not holding a charge.

  12. the car was up for sale a while ago, but want to keep her now. met to many friends in the subaru scene to walk away. :)

willing to spend between 3 to 4k on the engine. time is on my side :( really would be happy with 350bhp

i know japperformanceparts are doing 2.5lt STI engines for £1700? sounds a bit cheap tho.

I just sold a Spec D long engine for £1500 so £1700 is not far off. Give mark at lateral a bell and enquire about one of his 2.1Lt stroker kits.
