  1. I pass this place twice a day, but at 8am and 6pm, so it is always closed. Cars are on the forecourt though. Probably the earliest I could look during opening hours would be Saturday morning, so I could have a good look inside, hear it running and take it for a test drive etc.

I've only got my car at work once more this week (car share on alternate days) and have a meeting that day, otherwise I could have picked you up one lunchtime to have a look over it. If next week isn't too late, then thats an option.

    Cheers

    John

Knew you would be along to help out :D

Got any plans to pop along to any of the sprints this year, hoping to be up for Alford but will miss Boyndie next month as I am away working in Athens again.

  2. So you think its doable with a normal spanner without taking the DP off? It seemed that there was only a few degrees of travel before the spanner knocks into something.

I ended up mole gripping the plastic plug housing on the top, but that just turns and turns.

It is def possible from underneath if you have been spinning the plug you may well have damaged the wiring in the plug.

  3. I'm not entirely sure it IS the speedo sensor, but here's the trouble - Every time I come to a stop, the speedo needle shoots up to 30-40 mph and its adding the miles onto my odometer! Its really really frustrating when your shuffling along in traffic and 1 actual mile can show up as 20.. arghh..

    So

I've salvaged my old speedo sensor off my old 5 speed box (its 6 speed in the car now but they look the same) But sw couldn't swap it 'while-I-wait' cos the engine was too hot. I tried myself to much swearing and huffing. :( Is there anyone in the leith area that could possssssibly lend a friendly hand? In theory it only needs a 17mm spanner, but in practice it looks to me like the downpipe needs to be removed to get in there. Does anyone have experience or any tips in the matter?

I tried just removing the plug on it, which I can thoroughly NOT recommend

    Chris.

The sensor does just screw into the box, its a little awkward to get to but may be easier from below, you should not have to remove anything to swap it. It could also be the clocks but if you already have a spare sensor it makes sense to swap them.

  4. Sorry to hear about this, bad enough in a normal car but a car that has had so much time and effort spent on it just doesnt bare thinking about. I had a similar incident on my RA just after finishing building it for the first year of competing but I got lucky and it didnt catch so can totally sympathise. It does sound like a hollow statement but at least no one was hurt, as much as we love our cars they can be replaced.

  5. They haven't done mush i the last 2 weeks but will be back on track from monday.

Just some snagging to sort then it's ready!

Cool will be good to see it in action, The sidc event at kames on th 28th May would be a good place to try it out with no pressure on you or the car although it would prob be to small a track to open it up with that turbo

  6. Not sure what you have fitted at the minute but a good cheap road set up of newage wrx 4 pots at the front and 2 pot rears with DS2500 pads is a very good set up without the expense of going to Brembo's or AP's. I used this set up on the RA during my first season and it was very effective.

  7. Well quick update, managed to squeeze in the Inglistonn sprint last Sunday. Although not a Scottish round it was a round of the Lowlands championship as well as a British round and a non scoring round of the Highland Speed Championship.

Having only made it home on Fri evening it was to tight for time to do the Saturday event so I only entered for the Sunday. I have to say how imprerssed I was with the way Dunfermline Car Club ran and organised this event - DCC are a successful rally club but have never ran a sprint before, you would never have known all in all a cracking event. ;)

Unfortunately I have not had time to sort out any pictures but will do that as soon as possible. The class on Sunday was well attended with around 8 cars total in the class. Martin Willox in his Evo really did throw the gauntlet down early on but unfortunately he had gearbox problems and had to retire before the timed runs which was a shame as I think he would have set a time that would really have pushed everyone on.

In the end I was pipped into 2nd by Donald Ross in his Evo by 0.3 sec. Donald produced a crackng final run to take a well deserved class win. From my point of view it was a first outing at Ingliston as the cct has not been used for sprints since the 1980's and in hinde sight a saturday entry may have been a good idea. Most importantly I still managed decent points and the car performed really well, just need to get the driver to match the performance of the car and I may just be onto something :(

With the extra power and torque this year the car is totally different and i have not got to grips with it as quickly as I had hoped but the next event for me is on familiar territory back at Kames on the 23rd May so another chance to try and improve on the times from last month.

  8. Thanks John, hope you are well.

I used Stewart for my Ceramic Coating to my headers, uppipe, screamer pipe and external wastegate and the Downpipe and can say I have been impressed by the temps I have recorded during the first event in the car since it was all fitted. GIve Stewart a ring or drop him and email, I was pleasantly surprised with what I paid

  9. £94 for wheel alignment is robbery. Drive form Dundee to John at Progrip in Bonneybridge and get him to set your car up and you will still have change from your £94.

John knows impreza's inside out and alignment is his business he sets up my road car and race car cant recommend him highly enough.

  10. A TY754VN4AA from a UK blobeye would be a good choice ran one for two seasons at 330 ish and 400 ish and was constantly launched and not treated with any sympathy at all, and was still perfect when removed. If you have a Typre R and R180 rear diff then you will have to pick up an R180 3.54 rear diff as well to match the UK blobeye WRX rear diff ratio as your shafts and hubs will not fit with the R160 diff fitted to the blobeye WRX.

  11. will do mate but more than likely be kept till end of year maybe next year its replacement will hopefully be a forester sti this ones got a nice newish sti exhaust !!

i love driving it as a long car but you cant beat the classic for a good b road blast or at least it will be soon when the new clutch comes!!

    neil

p.s thanks for the comments guys
