  1. Looking good, hope you reach your weight watchers goal with it rich lol

At least its not got a vtec like the other tyoe r lol

Cheers, I've had a civic type R in the past and that was a fun car for a daily driver, in fact my brother still has it so I get a shot from time to time lol

  2. do the calipers black to match the AP's Rich and orange stuff might be a bit extreme, remember the rears only get a small percentage of the heat of the fronts and my ds2500's were standing up ok last time on the front

I might if I have the time, plan was to fit them with new discs and orangestuff pads on tuesday. I hardly use the car on the road now so track pads it is.

  3. Ah Thanks again Arch, I did recall seeing it in one of your threads, just didnt have time to browse through the pages and find it. Dave R and I talked about the subject at knockhill trackday B)

  4. Decided to go for the rear brembo brake conversion, sourced some calipers, discs & pads from scoobynet from an 06 plate STI that was breaking so I've started the conversion...

Fortunately for me, my handbrake is 190mm so the newage discs are a direct fit for my handbrake shoes. The backing plate however has to be removed to let the larger discs fit. So this backing plate can be drilled out and removed. I thought best to clean up the hubs at same time so this is them primered and the backing plate to show what I removed.

I am going to order uprated discs and pads, probably going to try the orangestuff track pads, anyone tried these?

Does anyone know if the counter weight is necessary or can I fit the calipers without it?

Do you guys think I should keep the calipers gold or paint them black?

    Cheers

  5. For weight saving and having a fully stripped interior doesn't make it look the best or most comfortable if you drive it daily too.

My suggestion for interior would be to remove all the sound deadening beneath your carpets then replace the carpets and trim. That will save you approx. 12kg, then remove your spare wheel, jack and tool kit etc when on track. This way you've shifted some weight but still got the comforts of the interior.

Brakes is definitely a must for track, depending on budget uprated discs and track/fast road pads is cheapest, then you should consider a newage brembo caliper upgrade then there is the full blown AP racing set up. All depends on your budget but the more you spend here the better.

Suspension, a set of BC coilovers can be had for under £700, but if that's too much to start with then you could do the Anti roll bars, anti lift kit and droplinks which will stiffen up the car and make it noticeably handle better before going for the coilovers.

Looking at the above you could easily be spending £1000s already but do it bit by bit and develop the car as you go, with each mod you will be improving the car and make it better each time.

Keep us updated, start a project thread, theres plenty folk on here willing to give help and pointers on each step of the modding journey :icon_salut:

  6. Big Thanks to John S for organising a great trackday once again :icon_salut:

That rain just wouldnt stay away but got a couple good runs when track was damp/drying.

I'll have to check all the go pro footage to see if its any use for a wee vid and post it up.

Nice to meet a few new and old faces today.

    Cheers

  7. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE :smiley-taunt014:

I got the roll centre adjust kit fitted earlier this year, will see how it performs on track on 22nd. Havnt really noticed much difference out on the roads but then again hadnt driven the car in ages to compare lol

  8. 30kg a door :) Good to know!

Was the with the orig electic mirror?

My car is sitting around 1155 kg so should slide under 1100 when doors are changed

Yip Adam, thats with fully functioning electric windows still in place. I do keep a keen eye on your threads for ideas and look forward to the new wideboy project you have :icon_salut:

  9. Passanger door crash bar removed and now the car weighs 3kg less, not a lot but theres much more to come out of the door. Eventually they will be changed for moulded and plastic windows, maybe next year.

Put the door back on so I can use the car. I plan to get the car weighed to see where its at, in the meantime I'll be looking into more ways to lighten the car. A lot of wiring can come out the loom since it was stripped there is a lot of connectors floating about. Little bit at a time, all adds up

    Rich

Cheers bryan, always lookin for ways to improve :icon_salut:

  10. Next job was to lighten the passanger door, decided to take it off this time to make it easier

Door weighs 29.1 kg to begin with so will see how much weight I can shave off it when I'm done

And onto my daily car I fitted a westfalia detatchable towbar
