colzo Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 After seeing a few EVO9s down at the Jim Clark Rally I was really impressed with the styling, so just off the Mitsubishi Website and shock..... for £28k - £35k you have to pay extra for a stereo FFS!!! Also a Tracker would be extra, now you might be thinking that the cost of some ICE and a tracking system is pennies if you`re willing to pay £30k on a car but I was amazed they never came standard. Also servicing comes every 4500 miles or 6 months. I have never drove an EVO and I know alot of folks on here would advise me not to get one but I`m on my 4th Subaru and want my next car to be something different. I like to buy new (I know at lot of people would advise against that also) so if there was discounts on 9s when the 10 comes out I could be tempted to take a test drive. I also like the Audi S3, now you can`t knock the quality of these cars, sometimes I sit in my car and can`t stand the rattles or irritations from the 'cheap interior' ( silver console easily scratched) or the jack knocking in the boot (thought it was the dreaded strut problem) and think I could of had a better built car for my money. When I added the extras like the 18inch wheels, RS4 style steering wheel and bucket seats it was fast approaching the £30k mark for the S3. Out of interest I took a look at the Focus ST, and for the ST3 it is just over £20k for what looks like quite a sporty car with good spec. Has anyone had any experiences with these cars especially the EVO and S3? If so views or opinions would be appreciated. At the moment my 05 PPP`d STI is by far my favourite Subaru that I have owned, servicing is not too bad and I love the look and sound of it but sometimes I feel it just lacks a bit of quality. But is the grass greener on the other side? Mmmm. [*-)]
oobster Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Probably touching £37K but have you considered a BMW 335d M Sport Coupe? 0-62mph in 6.1secs, quoted 37.7mpg Or slightly cheaper the 330d M Sport? (£34.7K) 6.7secs 0-62mph & mpg of 43.5 I'd certainly have one on my list if i was looking to spend £30-40K.
G.T. Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 what about a vw golf r32 ? ive got a mk4 and i love it to bits , took peter fashing the other week in it and he was quite impressed (i think). Ive also had an audi and you are right about the build quality it is far superior to anything japanese.
fai17 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 A rocket has got to be light weight so you need to factor in that's why the interior are not as good quality as the Germans... I would go for a Porker and for 30K you could get a mint E46 M3 too. The R32 is really really good and very easy to live with but just doesn't have the ooomph comparing to a Scooby but maybe one when i'm really old then i'll get something slightly slower. Turbo charged + 4WD=[]
colin_ross Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 There is no way I'd buy a brand new evo 9 at the moment. I'm sure you'd get a healthy discount but when the ten comes out the ar$e will drop out of them big time. Either wait until then for your nine or put your name down for a ten. Can't really advise you on what car to put your money into as I'm not sure what you priorities are but if I was looking to spend mid 30's it would be an R34.
wheelchairscooby Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 my uncle had a m3 from new when they first came out what a car and its still on the road today just had a new gearbox thats all
billyboy Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Subaru lacks quality?Have you checked out the low rent council interior fitted to an evo?I 've driven one which was traded in at my work, some of my workmates also tried it they didn't like it either. For all my new age is a bag of -hite with its rattles etc its still better than an evo.
karl_dowie Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Id stay well clear of the focus as my mate has one, in the wet and your giving it sum stick it spins 1st 2nd and 3rd, i would have a look at a skyline i had a shot of a GTR R33 thats had sum tweeks and i thought it was f++king great it has a more expensive feel to it.I would love to try the R34 it would be mental.
colzo Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 Surely 99% of us on here have considered an EVO at some point? If the 9s were discounted when the 10 arrives I would defo take a test drive, but it would have to be a half decent discount as I know the values would fall. As for the Focus ST, I couldn`t see myself buying one but it looks a good deal. I have sent away for a S3 brochure to look over as 4wd, 260bhp and the build quality of the Audi is becoming very appealing, (also getting a RS4 brochure, but thats for the lotto win). Don`t want anyone to think that I`m putting Subarus down, as we all know the what they are capable off and the grin factor they give us just sometimes small niggles turn into expensive new cars for me! For those in the know/trade what are the Audi residues like? Cheers for your comments guys.
thewelsho Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Granted, the Subarus do lack finese and build quality, but the car costs a measly 21k for a brand new WRX. With that comes AWD, 230BHP, turbo-charged madness, and with the scope for modding. Granted we can mod other cars too, but they are not so much in "need" of it. These options can be found in other cars with the build quality as well, but add near enough another 10 grand onto the price for the next step up. Can't have it all for that price. My mate has an ST. He loves it, I tried it once and loved it too, but that was off the back off owning a NA Celica 1.8; anything is going to feel fab next to that. It has more toys than a Scooby, e.g. boost gauges as standard and traction control (it NEEDS it!) but at the end of the day its a Ford. I'll stick with Scoobies for a while yet.
