col666 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 After 4 scoobs I think I have owned my last. Sold it this morning, had a deposit on another non-scoob but decided at the last minute it wasnt for me so I am totally carless! Back to work overseas on tuesday for 2 weeks maybe more so will have plenty time to think about what to get next but to be honest I dont think a scoob is on the cards. Its been fun but at the same time a complete nightmare, i have a habit as most of you know of making a joke of subarus reliability reputation!! Will still be about taking pics and boring you with them no doubt [] Laters. Col.
superstar_tradesman Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Sad to hear that mate, I just got my first Scoob yesterday and I can't see me ever getting anything else now. I love it.

RS Grant Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I have been known to jump ship when things are getting to me too mate... but I always return. [] I got to the stage that I was pi$$ed off paying out on repairs on older cars (not just Subarus) that I'd never see again come re-sale time... so I've bitten the bullet and gone for a Newage STi. Its been an awesome decision, all the power of my previous Imprezas, the flat-4 rumble, still very chuckable..... but comes with 3 years warranty, so the only costs I'm looking at are consumables (which you'd get in any car) of brakes/tyres etc. The peace of mind I've got driving this car is awesome, where as before, I'd be worried what that rattle or knock was. Depending on your budget or what you want to spend on your next car, I'd say you should give a Newage a bit of serious thought. Cheers, Grant

scoobaroo Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Sorry to hear that Col, i`d give a Newage a go first before you buy a mundane jallopy [Y]. Youve not had the best of luck with your previous classics [:'(], but the newage is a different kettle of fish. Good luck anyway with whatever you get next, as long as its not an evo [] Im sure we`ll see you about with that lens of yours at Knockers etc. Marty.
infiltrator2 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Quote Its been fun but at the same time a complete nightmare, i have a habit as most of you know of making a joke of subarus reliability reputation!! Think you've been unlucky mate, I've had my STi3 8 yrs now and it's only failure, other than consumables, was the battery - and it managed 326bhp last year virtually standard at the SIDC RR day. Had my GTB 3 yrs now, now done 120k miles and it's never let me down other than the uppipe - which after this sort of miles is understandable. RR'd when I bought it at 95k miles and it managed 277 bhp. My first Subaru was a DL 1.6 Estate, bought for £500. Did 40k miles in 4 yrs without servicing (not even oil change) and it ran fine till scrapped - at the same time I had a BWM 325 TDS SE which was low miles and pretty new and I couldn't keep up with the bits that were dropping off it. Hence the move to Subaru's.
corsa Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 My STI is going away today aswell. Great reliabability for the 3 years i have had it.[]
col666 Posted May 20, 2007 Author Posted May 20, 2007 Ok, what car would you buy in my position? youngish single guy with bit of a playboy lifestlye[], dont need 4 seats, something that immpresses the ladies[] but also fun and powerful. Very nearly bought an Elise the other day but backed out. Heres a few i thought of- Porsche Boxster Porsche 964(mid 90's 911) Porsche 968 Honda s2000 Audi tt Nissan 350z Focus RS, really like these. dont have a clue what to go for, any suggestions would be handy! Car less Col.
scoobyiain Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 sorry yo hear you are leaving the subaru scene colin. Any of the above cars gets my vote except the s2000 and audi tt (unless you are a hairdresser). Have driven the focus rs and loved it to bits but they all look the exact same. Also driven a boxter and loved it's handling round the twisties. either of the 2 would be my choice.
Jamis Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Sorry to hear this m8 but if it was me then i would go for a twin turbo supra manual, but the focus does sound good.
billyboy Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Col, Sorry to hear your giving up Scooby ownership.Ive got a 55 plate sti9 ppp and it will DEF be my last scooby, bag of nuts.
fai17 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Quote nippon 350 for me Me too ....porkers are sore on the wallet....Focus interior would make a scooby interior look like a Merc. TT.....too old.......Lotus gets a thumbs up too. Newage STI????....you know you want too.....White Hawkeye...double thumbs up[Y][Y] Good luck with what ever your choice.

As Peter says white hawkeye is the future, almost 300 bhp & a 3 year warranty [] If not a new Kia with the 7 year warranty [8-|] as you know you'll break it [:$]
RS Grant Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Out of that list mate, considering that you're likely to give the car a good kick now and again and are pi$$ed off with reliability issues... I'd think the most reliable one there is the Honda S2000. I had a friend that owned one for a while, it was quick, handled really well, sounded great in VTEC (even as standard) and rev'd until 9k. Do a wee search on Youtube and find out exactly how good these things sound with a filter and exhaust, they are mental. I would say that you should go and have a wee seat/drive of one though. The steering wheel is non adjustable for reach or rake, so might be uncomfortable and catch on your legs. Cheers, Grant
