kassam Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 just wanted to knw if anyone has ever owned an rx7 an wat they are like reliability, fuel consumption and maintanence wise? are rotary engines cheap to repair? thanks
HOL Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 ****el engines are very powerful for their displacement. But all you ever here or read in Jap mags is how the ehines only seem toi last about 40K, before the rotor tips need replacing. But, they could all be bad jounalism like the Subaru chocolate pistons or the evo 4500 mile full service.
prodrive tony Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Rotary engines are not cheap to replace as they are only built by RX specialists so your options are limited on price.
darryl_martin Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 My mate works for mazda, so had an rx8 as a company car for a bit. Apparently they have to have special oil which comes in quite pricey(rotary engine).....he mentioned £128 iirc just for the oil!!!! He does tend to exaggerate tho, everything has to be fastermore expensivebetter built you name it than a scooby......exept the alloys, apparently they tend to corrode, dealers aware and will replace under warranty. All word of mouth so don't know how true[] Oops, sorry the wheels are on the rx8's
