nick_young Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 hey guys and gals, sure this has probably been asked loads but couldn't find an answer. i currently have a ninja backbox and was looking at getting the de-cat centre pipe. my first question is will this still pass an mot if the downpipe still has the cat? and also, will i neep a remap if the backbox and centre pipe will now be changed? the backbox has been on the car for about 3 months now, so dont know if the ecu will have got used to it!? thanks. nick
Spaceman Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi mate no expert but from what i have read your car will run fine with the center decat section and ninja backbox, it should also not require a remap thats only for full decats. As for the ECU getting used to the BB im pretty sure it won`t be a prob for it. hth P.S am sure some more techy folk will be along in the morning to help you out cheers Greig
thewelsho Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Nick What kind of car do you have? Firstly, there is no cat in the centre section, there is however a resonator. These can be replaced with a straight-through pipe and backbox with no need for a remap, thus the ECU is unaffected. Beyond the centre section there is cat pipe, this is the 3rd of three cats on the newage (I dunno anything about classics!). Again, this can be replaced with no need for remapping and will provide you with another 10bhp (so i'm told). Neither this nor the first suggestion will cause any problems with MOT or MPG for that matter. As mentioned, the up and down pipes have cats which can also be removed with a substantial power-gain (40 - 50 bhp?). The downside of course is MOT and ECU will be affected. A remap will cost you £500 or so, plus VAT then you will have to find a MOT Scoob-friendly centre De-res centre and 3rd cat delete will cost you around the £200 mark worth every penny for the sound alone Hope that helps.
scoobyiain Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hopefully getting my de-cat and centre section fitted on today. See gus for those parts for much cheapness.

What back box have you fitted with that Iain? I have the Prodrive one, which is ok, but I think I'd like something a little louder without going daft on it.
diffbuster Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 downpipe cat should be enough for mot pass but if you replace the downpipe you will release more power just keep your uk centre section to save time and tears at mot time.

I did have the prodrive one too but was not loud enough for me so got an afterburner on now and it sure does make a difference. I'm now mr popular with the neighbours when i fire her up at half past 5 in the morning

nick_young Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 thanks for replying guys! its a my00 classic, impreza 2000 turbo saloon.i was more wanting the centre section for noise more than anything. cant spend too much on power gains as i am trying to save to go travelling, so if i get the centre section i wont need anything else done and should pass mot!? thanks again
frank c Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Changing the back-box and de-catting the mid section or with a resonator box will release a little extra power and create a nice sound. Passing an MOT should be no problem but I'm sure someone will be along soon to clarify for ya mate. That's exactly how i started off with mine.

Still leaves 2 cats so emissions are within tolerance levels. If you want a centre section see my thread in the sales section or PM me. I have one available to fit your car. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/892772.aspx Cheers Gus
infiltrator2 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I have an STI V3.Decatted downpipe and Magnex decat centre, H&S backbox. Runs fine, for MOT's I have a UK centre section with cat that I stick in. Flanges have stainless nuts and bolts and the job takes about 20 mins with cleaning up the flanges/gaskets. Car has always breezed through the MOT with just the centre section cat.
