scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 ok guys, a guy at ma work has put up a challenge for me to go against him at crail down the 1/4 mile, hes gonna be in a standard escort cossie( well he says its standard) and me in my93 wrx import, so wot u think ma chances are? as i said, cossie is standard, mine has got a decat downpipe n decat centre pipe. i know cossies r pretty quick, but i really dont wanna be beat by a FORD!! so if the chances r that the cossie is gonna beat me, my question is, wot choice mods can i do to make sure that i dont get beat? nothing to expensive, something cheapish but make my scooby quicker. comments greatfully recieved. fuzzy
RA Dunk Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 i think if you had an STI your chances would have been a bit better tbh, i saw a guy post on here today say he had a cossie before he bought a scoob, but he bought the scoob because his pal had one and the cossie couldent beat it, dunno if it was a STI or not, ill try anf find the thread and the guys name for ya
RA Dunk Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 found it http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/890294.aspx give him a PM and ask hes had both cars so would be able to give you a better unbiased opinion
RA Dunk Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 no probs m8 anytime, is it a escort or seirra? always fancied a escort cossie tbh there lovely cars []
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 its an escort. i reaaly wanna win against him, cos if i dont, il never live it down at work, lol fuzzy
tatty Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Hi mate i'm the lad that had the escort cossi before my scoobs, mine was around 320bhp, was lightning of the mark and in straight line, but it couldnt shake off the handling of a uk scoob with great mods on it, So my answer to you is that you have slim chance if it's standard, but if he's modded cossi you have not got a hope in hell over 1/4mile straight, But get yourself a good launch of the line at yellow and you might just drag him over the line as they are 64% rear wheel drive!! 7000rpm and side step the clutch, sounds harsh but it's the best way to launch a scoob of the line hope this helps Martin
diffbuster Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Some methanol may be in order get some practice in first to get launch and tyre pressures right best you can hope for is mid 13s seen modded cossies in 12s check out times for the last fast ford day. you are definately in with a shout if his is standard.
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 cheers martin, yeah there quick in a straight line, im probably gonna lose this, but hey, il have fun doin it. lol fuzzy
RA Dunk Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 as diffbuster said try and get hol of a drop of methanol, maybe a panel filter as well, do you want to go as far as a remap too that will be another huge boost for ya
scoobaroo Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Its a "ford" m8 [N], which says it all, jist a tractor in drag, with fancy seats and a steering wheel which ford boffins thot they better add to improve its cornering abilities [&] Rag it from the line and the Scoob will do the rest, trust me im a doctor Ive got a Phd. in pure shpeel [] Marty. p.s. did i just say that ! []
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 nah, dont wanna go as far as remap, just something cheapish, but give me more power to mayb beat him, im selling the car in 2 months, dont wanna spend wot i dont need to. fuzzy
RA Dunk Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 methanol would be a very worthwhile wee mod []
FastScooby Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 scoonie model shop, st clair street, kirkcaldy has some meths.. think it was about a fiver or so
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 does dastek not do it aswell fuzzy
euan_r Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 bleed off valve to up the boost as well as methanol if you want to chance it [8-)]
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 welll i was thing about a dawes valve to upt the boost a bit fuzzy
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 right guys, ive got about 300 quid spare to spend, i need ideas on mods that i could get so i could beat a escort cossie down the 1/4 mile, this is not just me versus ma mate, this is subaru versus FORD, gotta show that FORD aint better than subaru, im out to kick some ford a$$ fuzzy
scoobyiain Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I think the cossie will take you even with £300 of mods to your car, wouldn't believe him if he says it's standard either. Most standard escos are for concourse and wouldn't take them down the 1/4 mile so he must have something done to it. imho
colin_ross Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 There is no way of telling without knowing the spec/model of the car and more importantly the experience of the driver. Some methanold and and extra boost will make your car a bit faster but the real improvements need to be made in the drivers seat. Slow if the line - down .3 of a sec, bogging it down - down 1 sec, fluff a gearchange - down one sec, not changing at the right revs - 1 sec etc etc etc. Get some practice and find a style that works for you and your car. Flat shift if you're feeling brave and nail every one. That said, cossies are bloody quick in a straight line.
Alan-G Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 You can get methanol in most good models shops. If they don't have it, they will most certainly be able to get it for ye.
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 flat shift??? wots that??? been a hile sine i done the 1/4 mile, gonna go down on the 18th of feb for some practice, mayb put the car on a slim fast course aswell. lol fuzzy
