golfdaft Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 As I'm no techy... Is a centre de-cat and backbox worth the money.... I can't comment as my centre de-cat was done as part of the PPP kit... Bascally is he has a prodrive backbox on his car and was wondering if the £100 or so is worth the money for the centre de-cat?? Can anyone answer this for him quickly?? Cheers Scott
Andy UK300 Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 PPP should be de-cated in the centre. i wouldnt change it, they sound lovely. his next move would be a de-cat down pipe..but that will involve a remap
golfdaft Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 You wouldn't de-cat the centre?? My bugeye is as part of the PPP....
sheep Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 My first mod was to decat the centre section on my bugeye, just dont expect huge increase in performance.
golfdaft Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Cheers mate, my bugeye has the centre section de-cat.... The question is for my mate who was wondering what the difference is in noise and power, he already has prodrive backbox.... I cannot say as mine was already done when I bought it and has a different backbox to his so the sound track will be different I guess.... How much more noise if he takes the centre out.. alot or not much..... ???
sheep Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I cant honestly remember but i wouldnt imagine it would sound too loud. Can a scooby sound to loud? ( says me waiting for the bung for my backbox to drop through the letter box any day now.)
higgy Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Just remove all the cats nd then you will gain a small amount of power and tourque. Higgy Ps noise to lol

Don't know what all the fuss is about, if he don't like he can just put it back !! [:S]

sheep Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 No you are safe, i worked in alloa for thirteen years and that was enough for me. If i had to listen to the sound of breaking bottles any more i would have went mad!
derek_wright Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 My last scoob had de cat centre and cobra back box was'nt insanley loud but still set off a few of the neighbors car alarms[][][]

higgy Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 if your not wantin to much noise , i have a 2.5" systom in my shed made by milltek and it's not at all laud .It fits on directly to the down pipe and sounds good. £ 150.00 is all im after. Higgy
gus the bus Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Guys, Newage cars DO NOT have cats in the centre section. This is just a resonator box. Cats are in short pipe infront of that (cat-pipe), downpipe and up-pipe. a straight through (de-resonated) centre section helps with the flow and increases (deepens) the tone a bit. Personally I would (and have) removed this. Gus
golfdaft Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks for the answer Gus, my mate does not want din just a little, so this sounds like it will do the job nicely for him..... Supose if they do it with the ppp kit it won't be too loud....?? Thanks mate....
gus the bus Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 If he wants a brand new one then my mate Paul makes top quality SS one to fit the system perfectly. I and numerous members on here have them fitted. PM me if he wants one.[] btw the PPP kit on a WRX does not replace this pipe. The resonated centre section is retained. My car has PPP and I had to replace with the deresonated section. Cheers Gus
scoobyiain Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 How much is it for these centre sections gus?
golfdaft Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Hi Gus, He bought this one.... Is this not the de-cat pipe?? If not what's the point in putting on?? Thanks Scott
gus the bus Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Scott, Yip thats the decat pipe[Y] all he needs to go with that is the straight through centre section to replace the resonator box if he wants to keep it sensible. Gus
golfdaft Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Cheers Gus, I've learned something today as well..... It's marked prodrive so I guess it is a extra you can buy?? My car is PPP'd and it has this pipe inplace also, so I guess someone has replaced it before me... Excellent!!
gus the bus Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Scott, this is the bit I'm talking about! I have this along with the two parts your mate has bought and its plenty loud enough. ie you can hear the flat four without ending up deef!!![][] eh! I presume this is what you have fitted too?

It does actually make it a bit louder too, I have a nice sound bite if your interested! Anyway, Gus ma man, any joy with the de-cat section for my Hawkeye?
