FMIC's for Classics

Right folks, been looking into FMIC for 99 uk classic and there seems to be a lot of makes out there.

Any views on whats the best makes to be looking at and who sells what. Info on who could fit these would very helpful too.

ps; what else needs fitting when opting for a F/mount.

Andy.F sells a good one at a very reasonable price (comming from him you know it aint gonna be sh@t lol), i was going to buy one from him till i picked up one (6 months old) from WUZ, try Andy []

What is the budget?

 

Airbox needs changing, so a cold air kit is another thing that needs doing.

Cold air kits... What makes are best ?  and what ones are worth avoiding..(if any)

Not sure about the budget yet Dave, trying to see whats out there first and make a decision there after.Obviously want to avoid cheap and nasty or poor quality..

Dunno of any "bad" CAI's tbh, but APS certainly comes out as one of the best, although hard to get a hold of.

 

There are plenty of FMIC's that will do the job and not cost an arm and a leg. £400+ for a half decent one. £600+ i'd say for a well known branded one.

Don't go by price alone Frank, (though front mounts are better value than when i were a lad... [] ) Check to see how the core is manufactured. Have a look at last months Jap Performance to see the different types of core you can get.

Frank, I've got a fmic on my99.

 I've got a Hybrid intercooler.  The fit could almost have been designed around the 99 as there was very little cutting to the metalwork to get it on. Some others need you to take a set of tin sips to the inner wing.  As for the bumper, most kits will require you to trim a fair amount of plactic off.  Quiet a lot of the stuff actually.  It's not difficult but it can be time consuming offering it up and checking fit but take your time and it's not too bad.

The pimp daddy is the lateral kit. Perefect fit, comes with a new ally raditator and as it doesn't require any bumper cutting it's totally stealthy. Pricey though compared to the others.

Induction kit wise I would only advise using an apexi on a my99. They are famous (or is that infamous) for busting maf's and ANY oiled filter will make the chances much worse. Also make sure you secure the filter as vibrations caused by removing the airbox can do the maf's in too.

 I've got an used apexi one if you're interested let me know. Also if you want to see my setup to see whats involved.

Lateral kit doesn't come with any pipework remember though Colin, so you can add even more money onto Joe Public's price list.

Yup, no pipework as Dave says. I did say it was pricey.

The £200 one might be fine for your power goals. What are you shooting for?

Oh yeah, just remembered you'll need a new dump valve as well as your old one won't fit. Almost ashamed to mention but I have one of these for sale too [:$]

APS is on mine. Coulty has my old HKS.

APS uses all soft pipes with one hard plastic section. Good for keeping the heat out the air going into inlet manifold.

AFAIK RCM sell the APS kit's though...
