Jamis Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 OK need some info peeps,i'm looking at changing my steering wheel for a smaller sporty one(hate the airbag one) The problem being the boss kit,all the ones i've seen are for the 93-96 models.Has anyone changed theirs on a MY97?if so where did you get the boss kit from?
thewelsho Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 OK need some info peeps,i'm looking at changing my steering wheel for a smaller sporty one(hate the airbag one)Isn't the airbag a legal requirement?
st3ph3n Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Will certainly require to be declared to the insurance co that you've not got one. If I was buying a new one I think I'd get the Nardi Taniguchi - http://www.nardi-usa.com/

Rather spend the money on other car-related things.
thewelsho Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Yup. Go faster bits!Yeah. I have sent a couple of eMails to some companies inquiring about the de-cat pipe for the MY06 but as yet no respose. I guess they are not that keen to make money. Don't understand it. BTW Stephen, how does your exhaust set up affect your MPG?
st3ph3n Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Not noticed a difference John. All the exhuast is doing is freeing up the flow of gasses outwards and as far as I know I'm still making the same boost so using my rudimentary understanding of how these cars work then I assume I'm still sucking down the same amount of air, which is being mixed with the same amount of petrol which is being exploded with the same timings, but the by products are being pushed out a bit easier.

I see. But with the extra power, albeit 10BHP or so , there must me a fuel cost. Perhaps its such a small performance gain that the fuel hit is small too. I thought, but perhaps wrongly (as all I know about cars has been learned since owning a Scooby), that the cat-less pipe allowed the by-product to be pushed out easier meant the turbo was spinning a bit faster and earlier therefore more compression and thus more fuel. I'll bet I have just made myself a laughing stock, haven't I? J
st3ph3n Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Well the more free flowing exhuast does allow the turbo to spool harder and quicker but with the ECU running the factory map then it is still limiting to ~1bar (in a MY05 WRX, other cars will differ) of boost so at peak it's still pushing the same amount of air to be mixed with the same amount of petrol. I suppose we need someone with some real technical skills, but if I use what I've stolen from the forums and tech articles in mags and wikipedia then I think with the turbo spooling quicker you'll hit target boost quicker so I guess you've got the capability to use more air + petrol earlier in the revs than before so yes you probably would use more petrol. Either way it's your right foot that will really dictate your petrol usage.
scoobyiain Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 All this technical stuff has came from a steering wheel question lol
RA Dunk Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 i was gonna get one of them removeable steering wheels as an xtra security measure, i mean nobody is going to bother steeling a car with no steering wheel are they
duncan_stephen Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I have one on my MY97 Jim. I'll look through the documents tonight, but I think the boss came from Deamon Tweeks. It was the previous owner who fitted it.

You just want to look cool like an F1 driver who pulls of his steering wheel before getting out of the car. Actually... I kinda like the thought of that myself. []

scoobyiain Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I'm only jealous of the graphics on your car not the knowledge in your head []
