frank c Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Sorry to hear bud. I also couldn't afford to get a lawyer for my speeding offence, and had to take what the court decided.. I was advised never to to plead guilty but sadly my wallet said otherwise. Hope it works out for ya mate. Frank
boris b Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 That's about right regarding the lights Even if the police cannot see the light that you go through, if they can see the other set of lights , which are green at the time you pass it can be said that the light that you went through was red, ( stated case in law), as long as it is noted by the officers that they checked the light sequence and found them to be in working order.
imprezapete Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Hi Chris I was done for going through a junction by the local plod. I was very sure that it was amber at the time but as a few have stated here thats an offence unless your stopping caused danger. So the plod just said you can take this 3 points and £60 fine and get it off in 4 years or take it to court and see if they want to make an example of you if they have reasonable question. I choose the first since it meant I have more control over the outcome. Anyway the offense you will be done for is a TS10 and my Insurance company didnt car one bit about it. Changed insurance a few times since and none really care either. Most insurance companies dont car about 3 or 6 points now cause of all the speed cameras these days. Not very hard to rack up 2 speeding fines now a days.

They have zero interest in the motorist, who are only viewed as a money-making assest. If they didn't care about TS10s or TS30s then why do they have us declare them up to 5 years after recieving them when the law discounts them after 3 years. How they get away with that is another mystery.
Alan-G Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Yep, insurance companies are run by figures and not people. I have a 21 year old No Claims discount which is accredited to the last five years on the road ! Track record accounts for nothing these days. Back to the topic though. I say accept the 3 points and the £60 fine. Reasons : A : The Rozzers are more seriously taken by the courts than Subaru drivers. (why - i'll never know) B : £60 It's not a lot of dosh compared with fighting it whether you were right or wrong. The system will win enevitably. C : The system is now geared around money (Just like in American states) ie. We win - you lose. If it were me in your situ, I'd just accept, I totally understand that your super angry if you were in the right, but the driving in the rain bit makes this case so complex that (I dont think) you or yer lawyer could hold a strong enough case. Sorry if this comes across the wrong way mate, but I would bite the bullet and pay the monies. Alan. (Sounding like a rozzer or a judge getting a homer) of which I am not. Best. Alan.
mctwistuk Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 i am just going to accept the fixed penalty. I now find myself slowing right down at traffic lights and almost stopping. Driving is just no fun anymore.

steve_shaw Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 hi fella you are doing the right thing .as you have to convince the traffic at the time <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> that in your mind you were unable to stop in the distance you had left, as to do so Would have been unsafe. Taking into account the road, weather and traffic conditions...never argue and believe it yourself... pain but hey yer still on the road sod'em. Steve.
