What are my options?

Right, I have a pretty loud exhaust setup on the car (As I'm sure most of the locals will testify to!)  I'm not in the slightest mechanically minded and all the mods were done before I got the car.  I want to get the car sounding quieter without losing any/much of the power.  What are my options and what are they likely to cost?  Harcd to quantify without knowing exactly what setup I have!  What should I be looking for that would indicate what cats are/are not in place etc?

I know I have tubular headers and I'm sure it's de-catted but I don't know which cat or even how many are on the bugeye!!  (Really showing my lack of knowledge here!)  I don't really want to lose the back box because it looks just right.

So my questions are these:

What factors affect the noise level of my exhaust?

What options do I have to make it quieter without breaking the bank?

Will I need a remap after the exhaust is changed and what would the adverse affects be if the car wasn't remapped?  (Car is a bugeye WRX running 327bhp so has a few mods)

Can anyone recommend a system that sounds nice but not cringeworthy?

Does anyone want a REALLY loud exhaust at a reasonable price??????????

Thoughts appreciated....

There 3 cats on a bug WRX.

Have you though about getting a bung for the exhaust?

It would allow you to run quieter when you want to & you can pop it out when you want to annoy the neighbours Lol. Best of both & would prob be the cheapest option there is, eapecially if you want to keep the back box you have as it's the Bbox that really makes it loud.

As your not sure what exhaust you have it's not so easy to order a bung for it but there is a guy through in Elgin called Nick who has his own place making custom exhausts(he does a lot of work on rally cars) can't mind the name of the company at the mo but it's custom something. He would be able to make you a custom bung to fit your Bbox i'm sure.

You could get a custom exhaust company to *******ise your system and put in another silencer after the cat delete section ?

Or slip in a standard centre section ? Loose 5bhp max if your a lucky !

yep its definitely loud and proud, as voted for by 9 out of 10 german camper vans [:P]

if you want steve i could give you a shot of my prodrive bbox to try, see if that makes enough of a difference. otherwise i reckon Gees on the right line with a bung. or you could always move out to the sticks!

I have a scoobyworld ninja backbox, scoobyworld ninja centre section up for sale if your interested?

I can also supply and afterburner decat pipe for the centre section.

This gives the car a nice deep low burble and is not to loud.  I don't have any problems with my neighbours at all.  On the motorway there is little cabin noise.

They have been fitted to my car for less than a year and have done less than 5000 miles.

pm me if your interested.

I bought a bung for my H&S jap slash box - monstrously loud and a good deal quieter with the bung - 54 quid though - not cheap.

I then had my centre section rebuilt by C&C with a resonator which made it deeper but not quieter.

Finally fitted a Scorpion/Prodrive backbox - it really helped and will have little difference to the flow of the system.  Still loud with no cats but much more liveable - but then again I like loud so it may not last!
