kassam Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 what parts would exact be required to out run a M3? i have been told by so many people i knw, that 300break scooby could put shame on a M3. i jus really do get annoyed when M3 owners think they have got the fastest car on the planet and treat jap cars like a tuna can u knw wat i mean. another quick question i read in a japanese performance mag 2-3months back that scoobies get really hot and can lead to engine melt down and some sort of water spray is required is that a must in all subarus??? many thanks for ur help, and i hope i find a nice example of a MY00 kind regards kaz
yogi- Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Scoobies were not designed for out and out speed, and therfore proned to overheat, without some moddification, to the cooling (water) and oil cooling, ie front mount intercooling and larger sump (oil) etc. I'm not sure if scoobies have a seperate oil cooling "Radiator" on them, we''ll find out, someone on here will know more about this that me. [Y] ps- welcome to SIDC by the way......
twofourdonkey Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Fitting an oil cooler will help keep temps in check, and water injection allows higher boost with reduced det. Water injection actually lowers power at a set figure of boost, but makes the engine safer allowing higher boost if you see what I mean. As for outruning an M3. What do you mean exactly? Top end? 0-60? 0-60 shouldn't be that hard. Lose all the extra weight, and fit a close ratio box. Top end. Much harder. You need a large surplus of power to get above the 155mph mark that new M3's get to easily. (Scoob's are like bricks with parachutes attached)
kassam Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 ye i just mean 0-60, uknw the traffic light thing lol. anyhows do u have to get the oil coolers and water spray done? without that would the car over heat? uknw im lookin to get one but before i buy a my00 i would like to knw a bit about them. im not looking to track with the car or anything but lookin to mod just over 300break. by the way do u think powerflow custom made exhausts are any good? thanks
darryl_martin Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I've heard some of the classics have inadequate oil cooling, but having said that I never had any problems. Maybe on a hot day if you've been caning it and then have to sit in traffic for a while could get a bit hot. As for engines melting imports are set up to run on higher ron fuel, so if you go and put standard uk stuff in you get det and overheat the piston melting the engine so to speak. Normally best to run any scoob on optimax or super plus, and if it's an import stick in a bit of octane booster to be on the safe side. I always use hayward and scott for my exhausts.[Y] See the link on here.
Guest leebo77 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Kaz, There are different schools of thought on tuning, but most people get there eventually (took me a few years before I started, and I have only just started). If you do plan to tune, go for a car that already has had some performed or go for a more 'advanced' model. ie, if you can afford it, get an STi over a standard WRX. That way, the base you work from is better. Don't get too hung up on trying to blow away M3's (after all, that would be on the track in anycase []) - Scoobies are great cars, fun to drive, in most cases practical and quick. Oh, and when you've made the leap - don't forget to wave at fellow scooby drivers. Above all, enjoy.[Y] Lee
twofourdonkey Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Reference the powerflow bit........... In my experience, they are cheapish and quite well made for a budget system, HOWEVER....... The boxes have some sort of fibre glass packing which breaks up over time, so they get louder and louder. A little birdy told me that H&S get their boxes from the same supplier?? (Don't quote me on this) Unless you start having dramas with overheating, there is not much need to mess about with it. On the road you shouldn't be able to cane it THAT hard. There are cooler thermostats avalible, which help matters somewhat.
deani_age Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 If you want to outrun a BMW M3, get a BMW M5.
baser999 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Kassam, not sure where you are but try to get along on Saturday
Dalthegooner Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 In order to outrun an M3 I'd give them a seconds headstart [][Y]

deani_age Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 In order to outrun an M3 I'd give them a seconds headstart [][Y] I'd like to see that shoot out. It would go something like this:- Type R led the way up to 60 MPH, but the M3 is catching up, oh look, it's overtaken the type R at about 120 MPH, M3 now pulling away, Type R runs out of puff and gives up at about 150 MPH, M3 carries on and tops out at about 175MPH. Been there, done that, ok so it was an EVO FQ 340. Big smile - LOL
