darryl_martin Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Welcome to the club I had a W reg uk car for a couple of years, covered about 40000 miles in it and didn't have ny real issues. Sold it with 76000 miles on it just before it was six years old. Biggest service on them is the 90000/ 6year service as they are supposed to be done every 7500miles/6months whichever comes first, so if you find one thats had the 90000 done, regardless of miles (if you know what I mean!) that imho is a good thing. Cambelts..... I was told every 45000 miles, and its a big service every 30000, hence the 90000 is huge as its both. Needless to say FSH is essential. Just before I traded mine in 5th gear started to catch, so make sure and give the gearbox a good work out as well. Otherwise smoke, rattles aren't good and check for any accident damage It's been well covered topic as you can imagine, try doing a search on here. One more thing, TAKE YOUR TIME!!! and find a good one! Good luck

darryl_martin Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 many thanks for ur help, taking the time is a problem, the excitement is getting to me lol. im ready to pay good money i just want a problem free and a reliable one. in the time you owned ur W reg scoob did u drive it hard?? tracks and etc??many thanks kaz Didn't do any track days tbh. One thing I've just thought of, the MAF's are very sensitive on the MY00's, they don't like induction kits. Mine blew when I was caning it (going into 3rd at about 70 joining the motorway) but got that done under warranty(would have been about £120). After that I drove the car with a little more respect. You can still have a lot of fun in them without having to bounce off the rev limiter imho. Like any car, if you thrash the living daylights out of them all the time then they will come back and bite you hard, if you are lucky just in your wallet. When I bought my latest scoob I asked the dealer on the test drive some of the more "technical" questions comparing the classic and the newage scoobs, all from knowledge gained on here. Having realised I knew a little bit about them he then carried on, "the radio's still sh*t, this still....., that still....."[]. Get as much knowledge behind you as you can, it really is caveat emptor out there and it will be much easier to trip up anyone who isn't genuine.
alan_newton Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 yer get i nice cheap classic thats been looked after
granby Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Dont go bugeye!! Urghhh. I quite like bugeyes now []
prodrive tony Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Look good with light conversions. I like those UK300's.
HOL Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Look good with light conversions. I like those UK300's. I agree, the bugeye lights are hideous as standard but, if like Sheepie you change them to something like Morettes, the look is transformed. Plus, bugeyes of the X and Y registrations are very good value as everyone wants the new style plates. The only other advice is to think in advance what you would like to do to 'a' car when you get it, modification wise. Then try and get a car with as many laready on it. It WILL save you loads. I know you have said no JDM's, but what you can save in tuning and haggle in price, covers the additional 2-3 years insurance.
