andy Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 In 2 1/2 years of having my Scoob this is the first time I've ever had to ask a problem question on here. Recently when braking, even gently, I'm getting a very noticeable judder in the steering wheel. Any ideas of possible causes of this? Pads were replaced about a month ago, but... where I would normally have gone back to Hypertech, I knew the pads were VERY low and as I was doing a long journey the day after, I went to Kwik-Fit in Alloa [:$] I've since found out from a mate they're not the most professional of oufits (not KF in general, just the Alloa mob in his experience). Happy to go back to Duncan and get their stuff ripped out and replaced with decent gear, but could it be something more sinister than just pish pads and/or work?
wrxmania Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Sounds like a wheel balance issue - often get this when wheels are removed after being on a while (for work) then re-seated differently. Take them off and refit them. If still there look at two obvious things first: 1. Wheels need balanced. 2. Brake discs are slightly warped. Brian []
wilky Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I would put my money on a warped disc Andy, but best to get someone like Dunc to have a look. Where you had it serviced it could be that Steve Wonder worked on it wearing boxing gloves. Callum W
_jac_ Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a loose wheel nut…
andy Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Quote I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a loose wheel nut… Probably the first thing I should have checked and never did. I'm a klewbie who, until the Scoob has driven company cars all his life. I'll check in the morning.
nkwrx Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I had a simillar problem on my old car. new pads, still there, new discs, still there, turned out to be sticky right caliper. Another set of discs and pads were required after this was discovered although the garage took the hit for price of second set. Hope this is of help mate. Cheers Kevan
bigal024 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Had the same problem with my old car mate. Discs were warped.
gus the bus Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I would bet on the warped discs! had this on the 300 after only a few thousand miles[] but were replaced under warranty by I.G.[]
scoobyiain Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 As said above, discs warped or wheel. Just make sure you get it sorted mate before anything happens
andy Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 Thanks guys. I've checked my nuts and they seem tight (and so do the ones on the car [] ) I'll give Dunc a call tomorrow and get it booked in.
imprezapete Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Sounds like warped discs, just takes this real cold weather with lots of water, sitting on the brakes at lights and bobs your uncle your discs are warped. Got new Ferodo DS2500s on the car and at high speed I got vibration through the steering wheel between 55-75 mph Put on a set of Black Diamond G12s and problem solved []
