stevie 4 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 OK i have decided to remove my dump valve dta type which was on the car when i bought it i have had a look at it and it looks like the hose that comes from the air intake has been blocked off and on the other side where the dump valve is fitted the d/v has a vac hose going to the manifold.is it just a case of connecting to the two pipes that have been split and blocking of the hole in the manifold
steven_williams Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 NO. The dump valve is just as it says a valve. It is opened by the vaccuum developed in the inlet manifold when the throttle is snapped shut. If you just connect the pipes together all you will do is circulate the boost from the turbo back through itself. If you are after getting rid of the noise of the DVA then you will have to get a recirculating DV to replace it with. Any other questions feel free to ask Steve
colin_ross Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Steve is spot on. You need a recirc valve to replace the VTA. The pipe form the intercooler goes into one side of it and the other feeds to the sair intake. The vacumm pipe connects to it also and tells the valve when to release the pressue. What year of car dictates what type of valve you need. I've got a standard one going spare if you want it, depending on year of course.
stevie 4 Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 ah not like my old gt4 then.my car is a 93 wrx import if that helps.the reason that i am asking is that i had one on my old gt4 which i discovered was causing problems with my ecu and causing the car to over fuel.and i suspect the same to be with this car as i don't think it has been mapped to accommodate.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I removed mine and sold it last night........really miss the noise but I am keeping hold of my car so want to keep it in the best possible condition. Even my exhaust seems quieter now..........all in the mind I suppose ! Doubt I will get the same pops and bangs...........getting prodrive springs and alignment done on Friday so that will restore the grin [H] CGS
stevie 4 Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 i thought i would miss it when i removed it from my last car but the car ran so much smoother that it was worth it
steven_williams Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 You could go for a twin port DV. On light throttle it acts as a recirculating but when being heavy footed it acts as a VTA DV giving the noise aswell. So you can choose to be quiet or loud.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Some more observations after some post work full boost B-road attacks :- car feels faster yet car feels quieter car feels more solid i.e probably cos I hear less noise I dont'g get the same slight increase in revs when i lift off like i did before on occasion car does has not produced a single pop yet ( therefore AFR is probably spot on now) I cannot scare pedestrians anymore So in some ways I prefer it off but I badly miss the ttttshhh ! CGS
wilky Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I wouldnt tell anyone you were going out after work and conducting attacks on B Roads if I was you. It reeks of Sutcliffe
