mad.gif Wel its 4 weeks b4 christmas and i thought that this year i was going to get away scott free with nothing happening ! how WRONG was i . My nice new spanky shiny gearbox i bought of subaru has again gone tits up again for the second time. £2.5K down the toiletcry2.gif .

Maybe its the 2.5 i am running at about 355bhp that causing it ?, i have been told standard scoobie boxes cant take that amount of hp. So i am looking for a 6 speed box from an sti as these are much stronger taking up to 400bhp so i have been lead to belive. Please advice me if i am wrong ! i cant afford anymore mistakes. So i want a box .prop, and diff. Its a uk car so if the gearbox is from a uk car i take it i dont require the diff? will my existing flywheel and clutch fit? Anyway cash waiting or can anyone put me intouch with someone that can help supply me these bits.

Give David at API a call and he will sort you out [Y] I think he can do

the whole thing for you for reasonable money and you will get piece of

mind that it has been fitted by people who have done it time and time

again.

Not cheap though but a strong box, although if you give Mark at Lateral

performance a call he does uprated gearsets which fit in your standard

box and can take some serious power !!!!!

Hope it helps

I have a 6 speed fitted to my 94 wrx. A local garage suplied and fitted it for me ( purchased from API) for about £2100. I had the prop from an auto, a 3.9 rear diff, the 6 speed box plus the linkage. UK 6 speed are like rocking horse poo! Best bet , as Tony says, is to ring API.

How can anyone spend 2000+ on a gearbox??

Am i tight or skint??

Mind you I would if I could!!

Because you have to, to get one that will handle the power & torque [:P]

Good choice to get a UK one.

It has the 1-5 gears ratios of a classic TypeR and the 6th gear ratio is the same as the UK Classic 5 Speed 5th gear (25mph/1000rpm).

Best of both worlds!

Its certainly not that i like spending money  trust me, as you can guess my other half is going crazy thinking about all the  nice things she can buy with the money instead. I love the car and she wont get around without a gearbox so its gotta be done or its just another classic impreza to be stripped down and sold which i havent the heart to do. And of coarse i wouldnt be part of this wonderful club to.Ibet there wonldnt be one of you out there that wouldnt do the same if in my shoes.

Its the downside to tuning Paul.

You uprate the engine, and the gearbox lets go.

You uprate the gearbox and the next thing to be hit will be the driveshafts/bearings/bushes. But, that all comes down to your driving and what level of mechanical sympathy. you have for your car.

The only consolation I can give you is that I am running the same torque on my 6 speed (including standard clutch) with no problems. But, I never do fullbore first gear starts!

 (I wait until 2nd! [:P] )
