mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I am going to be in posession of an STI topmount intercooler soon and potentially have someone to buy my standard wrx one. what i am wating to know is can i just swap them over and run the STI one on my car or do i need to get it remapped?
frank c Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Why are you changing to an STi one. Is there much difference ?
mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 From what i have been told the STI one is better for up to 380bhp but tbh it is a bit of a saftey blanket for me.
frank c Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 How much do the STi ones usually go for s/hand Chris..? I think i saw an STi 7 one on flat4 for around £350, does this sound about right. edited for typo.
mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 i have managed to get one off of scoobaroo on here. try ebay as there are normally one or two on there.
sheep Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 You will need to get the y shaped cast pipe and red 90 bend ( rubber samco hose ) that go with the intercooler as well.
wrxmania Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I am just doing the Samco's under my STI intercooler just now (version 1 not newage). The Y shaped pipe under mine has to be cut and the Samco jubilee clipped to the old piece (as it bolts on - not cast on). Should make a safety difference and was one of the only things Andy F recommended I do on my car as the hoses apparently flow better (and the older they get, they get more brittle), although the intercooler is doing the job well. Also straightening out the fins on the top, back to straightness - delicate job - they are very fragile. It's one of the Prodrive mods (the hose) too. I am also replacing the stubby intercooler front hose too [] MORE blue samco - luverrly. Brian []
frank c Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Where did you get the hoses from Brian ? Frank

mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 so do i need to get a remap when i fit it?
GaryD Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 If all your doing is replacing your intercooler with a STI one and not changing anything else, you shouldnt need a remap.
mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 thanks for the info. will save me a few bucks
sheep Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 To get the full benefit you will need to get the bigger air defuser and the lagger rubber seal that sits around the intercooler.
fai17 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 You will not need a remap as you are not running any more boost....and the IC is in the same place but just better flowing.

sheep Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Fitted inside your scoop is a metal plate that guides the air into the intercooler because the sti intercooler is larger you are better fitting the sti defuser but this might need modified to fit your scoop,or get an sti8 scoop.
mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 i see. will see if i can pick one up from somewhere. unless anyone on here has a spare one i could have?
gus the bus Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Quote No one cheaper than these guys:www.rallydesign.co.uk Brian, glad you found them of use. Just had my third box of bits delivered and fitted today[Y]. Folks make sure if you are ordering stuff that they send the right bits. I got two boxes (newage) that were the wrong parts[] it is because the coolant and ancillary parts have the same first 7 letter ref. TCS135C-B is the 6 piece ancillary kit, TCS135C-A is the 9 piece ancillary kit and TCS135C is the top and bottom radiator hose kit. The clowns sent me a second ancillary kit when I wanted the coolant hoses. [:'(] changed no problem tho but just a pain. Also been busy today giving the engine bay some more Samco blue treatment sorry for the highjack[:$] Gus
