ScoobySounds Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I've had my car only a couple of weeks now and i've been noticing a scraping sound when on (or nearing) full lock.sometimes it scapes sometimes it doesn't.. and when I had a look, it looks like the front bumper is come away a little from the car, just where the wheel would scrape. i'm thinking that this isn't good and I really should do something about it huh? i'll get a pic of this up to show. Also, the other day I had a car full of people and when I went reasonably fastish round a corner there would be a hell of a terrible noise coming from the back wheels, like they too are scraping on the arches. The car doesn't seem any more lowered than other scoobies i've seen, and the rims are 18" but there's 35mm low profiles on there to compensate. what going on. I thought this might be a scooby known issue or something cos when I was buying, I test drove one scoob that had the rear noise REALLY badly round corners.. so I want to fix mine before it gets as bad as that! Cheers all!
eurosti Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 What model is it? I would check the offset on the wheels fitted to your car, also if its a classic then 215 width is the max really. My mate has 225,s on his but he has gone for a different offset to compensate for it.
ScoobySounds Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 its a 2000 wrx import pic how do I check for offset? i'll measure the width!! ps.. still don't know how I show a picture with HTML. [:$]
eurosti Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Nice Looking motor that m8, the easiet way mate remove a wheel and look on the back face of the wheel and look for the ET should say ET48 or something like that. Make sure its not fouling on the strut if its an 8x18 wheel with the wrong offset this could be ya problem.
darryl_martin Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Very nice looking scoob you got there mate[H]
Neofox Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Sorry this is off topic but by any chance do u live in edinburgh?

raymie Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 why u selling m8? wat a gorgeous car, seen this on ebay
ScoobySounds Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 ah cheers man, no no i'm NOT selling it, I'm the one who bought it, saw it on eBay and drove down to england to pick it up the next day, cos I too thought it was abslolutey gorgeous. thats why I want to look after it and sort stuff about it! so having said that I want to look after it, i'm about to show you a picture of the bumper bit coming away, and it looks dirty! I haven't had time to take the wheel off or anything yet so bear with me on those specifics! It looks like the very edge of the bit thats coming away has bent a little too. its the exact same on the other side WHAT should I do! like I say, i'll hopefully be able to say more about the offset and the width etc later.
ScoobySounds Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 i'm going over to my old mans house today so i'll be able to take the wheel off in his driveway to check the offset number, and i'll also measure the width etc.. any other things I should check while i'm rooting? how expensive a problem is this to get totally sorted? do I have to roll arches, or get smaller wheels or something? cheers fellas.
sti pretender Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Had a similar problem with the rear arches on a Honda, offset was wrong. Don't get the arches rolled can cause the paint to crack. Buchan Automotive in Glasgow sorted the problem by grinding the arches back to the spot welds and then heat sealing the edges with a rubber/bitumen compound. Most bodyshops will do this cost me £100.
diffbuster Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 your bumper prob is easy fixed slack 10mm nut under wheel cover take front wheels off remove trim clips and archguards tighten or replace nuts. Was it you who was asking about this car on 22b website? if it wasnt you want to do a search on there.
