T123VOR Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Since moving to Kent from Essex and realising you are all far more clevererererer Who knows how to get some better speaker cable up, along and through the door grommet of my newage? Awkward and tight would be a big understatement- I'm tempted to stab through both grommets and seal with silicon! Any ideas received with gratitude as always[] Trevor
granby Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I never bothered in the end Trevor because as you say it's a bit awkward [], just made use of the standard speaker cable in the end
T123VOR Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 I thought that Ian(and my still have to)- but if you're spending £100 on speakers you should really use better cable surely? or you lose alot of the quality cos you have cheapo cabling Trevor
tony_cousins Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Trev unless your adding some serious sounds the standard cable will be ok [Y] its only when you run high end componets with over 200 watts RMS you have to change the cable due to heat [] As for threading it through the rubbers you need to pull the door pin to allow the door to open fully or take the door off its hinges and then you can thread in a straight line [] Hope this helps Tony

T123VOR Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 Yes thats true I suppose. Im going to run the fronts of an amp to get more out of them so just thought better cable - however it does seem like a lot of work/tears/grief/colourful language for a little return. So shall i just snip the speaker wires behind the HU and run a length from the amp and connect them up instead? Would be a lot easier in that case. Trevor
SCOOBYTOO Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 trevor just use the cable already in the doors m8. i had components in front runnung off amp under passenger seat. just buy some dynamat for around the speakers. job done.
baser999 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 ........shouldn't have such cheap speakers lol
HOL Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 For routing wiring like that I normally use a length of net curtain wire lubricated with washing up liquid. Pass it through and tie the end-use wire to the end and pull it back. Its flexible enough to go round corners but strong enough end-on to push through tight spaces. I used it to run the LCD screen wiring and plugs for the DVD player up through my seats, for example. Didn't do my huuge front focals though, I had the ICE fitted for me, so Im probably running standard wiring! [:S]
T123VOR Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 I shall lube up and try and poke it through- there are 2 bends and it is tighter than Tighty McTight the Mayor of Tight Town. Oddly though i dont have those white net curtain pole/bendy things like my Mum had- I'll ask the Old lady next door- then blow her face off with some of my UK Speed Garage HipHop Urban Ragga Jazz Symphonies- maybe some Chaka Khan or Supertramp - if it fails- i'll go standard cables... and pop on an Audio book for the old girl- something about knitting maybe []Fingers crossed Trevor
