Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I paid a visit to my local dealers to get a diagnostic check done on the car, and was told i need a new MAF They quoted £287 + labour + VAT to change the MAF Surley it can be done cheaper The part Number is 2268DAA280 Does anybody know of anyother places that stock this item Cheers
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Sorry, the part number is 22680AA280
ANDYJDMSTI Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 where are you based? So we can point you in the right direction.
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Thanks for the reply, i stay in Glasgow
stripe Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Big chap that's an outrage! Try http://www.glenburgie-subaru.co.uk/ for the MAF sensor, they have a good range of parts in stock
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Cheers Kev, the woman just barley managed to keep a straight face when she told me the price.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 try having a chat to Greers in Beith or Hypertech in Bonnybridge. Don't have the phonenumbers to hand but if you do a search on here for old threads you will find them. []
colin_ross Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 What year car is it for? I have a 99/00 one that seen all of 50 miles for sale.
stripe Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 No wonder, that's a made up price! There are another couple of Subaru breakers you can try, if you don't have any luck with them give me a shout and will give you another couple of places to try
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Its an MY97, i have no idea if the MAFs from other model year imprezas would work
frank c Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I'm sure the 99/00 Mafs are different mate. £80-ish for the later ones.
stripe Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I think they are different Stevie. I would deffo try Glenburgie, and if not then try http://www.foresterspares.co.uk/home.cfm
stripe Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 And when you do get a hold of the part, Duncan at Hypertech in Bonnybridge as Andy said will sort you out with fitting, his number is 01324 812212
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 I've E-mailed Glenburgie Kev, i'll see what they say to it. Is it fairly straight forward to fit the MAF?
stripe Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 It's a piece of p*ss to be honest, there is nothing to it
colin_ross Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 No they are not the same but I think I know why the price is so high. Chances are that they have quoted you for the sensor and the gousing, which you don't need. If they try to charge you for fitting bear in mind it's 2 screws to remove the old one and the same 2 screws to secure the new one. Even I could do it.
Stevie G Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Thanks for all the advise guys, i'll just try to shop about to get the MAf as cheap as possible and then fit it myself. The car still runs at the moment ( maybe shouldn't have said that ), so no major rush
Hepy Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 As Playsatan2 has said they have deffo quoted you for the maf and housing. I bought a maf for a MY00 in July for £85. I never fitted it if anyones interested btw. []
craigdmcd Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Sorry to be the bearer of harsh news, but yes there is a major rush. My friends Turbo went sick with a MAF fault, he continued to drive it until ne got a new one ( a few weeks later) and then one month later, #3 big-end bearing collapsed. A serious side effect of a dead MAF sensor, so place a matter of urgency on it. Craig
david_duncan2 Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Can't quote part nos. but I do remember this matter has been covered before and unfortunately the bottom line is this:- MY99 cars and later---yes, you can purchase the new MAF alone( without housing) for about £80 and has been said, fit yourself--only 2 screws but you will need a special screwdriver set( torx?). Pre-MY99 cars------you have to buy the housing complete with the MAF sensor, hence the much higher cost. I stand to be corrected on this but I think I'm correct. Dave
paul_honthy Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Replaced my MAF on MY97 STI and it cost £280.Was told couldn't purchase housing and sensor seperate (as Davie D says). Expensive but my warranty paid for it.As for fitting a piece of p%*h to fit mate, then its just a case of resetting the ECU.
thefastone Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Well I can confirm that Glenburgie have LOADS of stuff on the shelf, which is nice, and the parts arn't ott fvor price.... Bit of a bugger to find like, But I dont thingk that your too bothered about that tho... [] Hope you get it sorted ok, Sooner rather than later...
Stevie G Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 Just got an E-mail back from Glenburgie, they want to know if it has three or five pins, that was easy ( 3 pins ), however they also want to know the colour of the sticker. I've had a good look at the MAf and can't for the life of me find a sticker with any colour. Does anybody have an idea what it would be for an MY97. Cheers by the way for the help so far.
Stevie G Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 I've ordered a MAF frm Glenburgie, £117, a lot better than 280 plus VAT from Subaru. Hopefully that does the Job Cheers for all the advise!
