st3ph3n Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Anyone fancy a top speed run day, and if so do we know where we could host it? Would need to be an airfield really Thinking of things we could do next year and that was one of them that sprung to mind after the thread about top speeds. Give a chance to really push your car in a controlled area. Like we've all already been doing. []
craigwrx Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 For sure i would be up for this ....when i was down South, we always used an un-used landing stripp, was ideal, but would be way to far for us to travel. ~Could all chip in a wee bit for a sheild ....the winner gets to have his name engraved on it and keeps it for 12 months, untill the next run. Craig
z1000 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Only if Andy F doesn't compete in his 210mph rocket but i'd luv to see what my car can do.
craigwrx Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 This could be a great day out, i'm sure the local police would lend us a gun for the day to record the speeds [Y]
STi_Bandit Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Sounds like a great idea, id be up for stretching the legs on the car and see what it can really do [] Bandit
jcscoob Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I would be in for this also [] But where ? One of stephens better ideas [][]
z1000 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Once were finished tearing up the tarmac maybe we could all bring a spade and some acorns to finish off the day []
st3ph3n Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 Damn right we could. Location is the only problem really. Could Crail be configured for it, or is it just too bumpy anyway? I guess trying to get an airstrip for the afternoon is the best answer. RAF machrihanish is the longest runway I can think of.
jcscoob Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Stephen i dont think crail is long enough ! Wot about getting truegrip envolved and see if we could get Leuchars !?! Ps, doesnt the Fastone work for the RAF ?
RA Dunk Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 i would deffo be up for this, would be intresting to see just who has the quickest scoob amongst us, somebody mentioned getting a laser gun fae the polis that would be a bad move IMO they would turn it into a nightmare if they had anything to do with it
johnnyr6 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 should be good, not for me though, i know what my car does flat out.
RS Grant Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Not for me either, still running a TMIC... Sustained 100+ is asking for stupidly high ACT's and potential engine harm. Cheers, Grant
terzo neil Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 the old base at macrhanish near campletown has a 2.25mile runway, still maintained to this day
graham_nairn Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Sounds like a plan. Wot about East Fortune? Not sure about the runway length though. Wasn't big enough for Concorde to land on so not sure it could cope with a Scoob. They also have track facilities down there too.
AVI_8 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Quote the old base at macrhanish near campletown has a 2.25mile runway, still maintained to this day Not only is it maintained but it is also a licensed aerodrome just like Glasgow and Edinburgh and has scheduled flights therefore unfortunatelly it would be unlikely to close to allow cars to race down the runway.
st3ph3n Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 Cambletown only has scheduled flights Monday - Friday. I'll do some more investigation.
the squiggle Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Now a run to Campeltown would be awesome.
fai17 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Quote Now a run to Campeltown would be awesome. Cool[H]
st3ph3n Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 Run to campeltown next year v-max day or not is definitely a go for me too. Now does anyone have a runway we can borrow?
scientific steve Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 what about the old usaf base at edzell ? whats going on with that these days? know they used it for a few track days and stuff but not seen or heard anything for a while
thefastone Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I see it didn't take long for my name to get brought into this like.... [] Well I'm (along with another couple on this forum) at Lossiemouth, witch I'm sure is a bit far north for most of you guys... If your looking at Leuchars, thats more central, and more likley to get the turnout, and the runways are huge IIRC... and Yeah I suppoes that It wouldn't be out ot the quesrtion to ask, After all its positive publicity for the station, and for us... although theres a good chance that we could be told to GTF! Im sure tho, that if we were to do something like that then We couls perhaps persuade the RAF Police to get a speed gun out.... Either way if your stuck for ideas or for that matter, Airfields.... then PM me... [y] Right enough, I would like to have some high speed runs to see what she can do, without the added pressure of doing the quarter.... Dale.
